Thank you for talking about the weird sex stuff. I feel gaslit about that sometimes because nobody brings it up. I’m like, “But it’s weird, right? Right?” I wish I could have all the series after Children of Dune rewritten by Alastair Reynolds, perhaps, or someone like that who can really handle the huge, complex ideas.
@@JeantheSecond-ip7qm yes...the sex stuff is really weird. I could really do without it. I plan on reading Hunters of Dune & Sandworms of Dune, but I don't have high expectations. Unfortunately, we'll never know for sure how the series was meant to conclude.
@@nenyeo6090 yeah, but those same people will turn around and tell you Stephen King is their favorite writer. IMO Stephen King is way more graphic and disgusting than Frank Herbert. That's not giving Frank Herbert a pass. It's still gross. Nobody ever talks about all the sick sexual stuff in Stephen King. What makes King so special that he gets a pass?
@@dustinneely never read Stephen King but I’ve heard some things. As I’ve heard with Murakami as well. But yea, lots of hypocrisy going on as far as people giving certain authors a pass and other authors not so much. I find the same with George RR Martin. People give him a pass with the incestuous stuff but don’t give Herbert a pass for that little one scene with Alia and Paul in Dune: Messiah. SMH🙃🙄
Paul's story isn't over when he dies. That's part of why the story is so compelling. If you understand what he is you understand that he is present throughout GEoD as well.
I have not yet read the books nor seen the movies so I will take your recommendation to read the the first trilogy and then make the decision at that point if I want to continue.
I’d recommend doing that. I read the series in high school. My memory of them is that they get worse with every book. I reread 1-4 recently and 1-3 make for a decent ending. God Emperor of Dune is also a decent ending place as well, but it’s also where the weird sex stuff starts and where the writing becomes much more of a slog to get through. Just pages and pages of philosophical rambling and zero character or plot progression. I’m not even going to bother rereading 5-6. It’s sad. The ideas are worth a better telling.
Plato’s Republic + a bad teenage love story lol

@@dustinneely Sadly, it probably would’ve concluded with a lot more weird sex stuff.
Actually many people do bring them up. That’s why people say you shouldn’t read them🤦🏾♀️

I ve read them all. Worth it. Read all the House books.

I'm really thinking about the big picture ideas of all 6 books together. These books are dense.

Do you read anything about robots? I really like robots.
I read some Issac Asimov when I was around 13 years old. Perhaps something I will revisit. I don't remember much of any of it here 30 years later.
Wait...was that a reference to "Far Beyond the Stars"? DS9 🖖
Just gross? That's a rather childish view of Herbert's masterpiece. If you're a serious fan of Frank Herbert's work, skip this review.
Your review is rambling and noncommittal. Why even bother?
