A look inside Arizona's death row

- It's the ultimate punishment reserved only for the worst crimes committed in our state. In Arizona, the death penalty is the law of the land, but that sentence is imposed out of sight except for a few select witnesses.

Bruh, 1 in 9 death row inmates are exonerated. Every 10 executions recorded, there's possibly an innocent person. fucking crazy
that's not how it works but whatever. In order to be elegible for death sentence, the jury needs to find the accused guilty without any reasonable doubt, and as you said many of those sentenced will then exchange the death penalty with life sentence. Has anyone here ever been a witness? I've always wondered how one feels and reacts after seeing an execution.
Vice has a video about that. I don't remember the name but the family member gets to witness his brothers death but the pistol way. There is also another documentary but with the bed death row.
Prob not like how it used to be with electrocution chair, now they just basically go to sleep, then it’s over.
Yes, I served as an execution witness years ago. I was a neutral bystander, not having any prior involvement with the case or defendant. I reconciled that everyone present was there as a result of the bad and violent choices the defendant willingly made in the free world.
A few family members of mine are police officers and we always had discussions about weather or not we agreed with the death penalty, some suggesting the person should die in the manner that they killed or others thinking death was too kind. Their experience with murderers & their attitudes after killing were just horrible.

abby (for real like I would wanna kill myself or try to break out and if I don’t make it then they will have to kill me
No acctually. I mean idk about America but here in Canada the point of putting prisoners in prison is "for their punishment, not to be punished". You can buy many many things like tvs, radios, drawing books etc. There's also health care, dental care and eye care. You can even get jobs in prison and continue to get your highschool education and college or university education. Also you get 3 meals a day and a roof over your head. TBH as long as your not a child molester or rapist or anything that would make other prisoners wanna kill you then you'd have it pretty good in there. It's basically a very long sleepover
andrea everything in canada is better than america. Plus I've been to juvey twice and I'm only 15, and it was fucking terrible in there. Its most likely 10x worse in real jail
abby you say that but in an interview of a high maximum security prison, prisoners who were released from death row and spared from death to love a life of prison said it was a relief. They said in Death row there's no hope, but with life in prison there is

umm every prison/jail kitchen is worked by inmates lmao.
Steinmetz Yeah though they could still tell their family (if they still talk or even have family) that they potentially could have served the last meal that day.
Even prisoners have families. They’re all human beings.
It’s not just the death row kitchen it’s the entire prisons kitchen. And the inmates are the ones who work there
@@chrisk.5964 Yeah, that's not true. While it is true that most (see 90+%) prisons have kitchens ran by inmates, not all do. Some places have actual kitchen staff who are government employees. This especially applies to juvenile facilities like detention centers (basically kid jail for short term stays and waiting for court) and training schools (kid version of prison, though they're nowhere near as bad as adult prisons). The food isn't great in those facilities, but it is an improvement over the slop served in adult facilities. There are also some rare adult facilities that have kitchen staff, like the prisons which house elderly and infirm inmates. I've been volunteering in adult and juvenile facilities for over a decade now and have seen a shit-load of them. So I do know what I'm talking about on this one.
@@james_ford86 ill give you juveniles, elderly, and those rich elite prisons, but the rest are inmates. doesnt make sense for tax payer money to go towards hiring staff when you have hundreds/thousands of men standing around doing nothing all day.

It’s sadly happened so many times. In 1944 a 14 year old black child was murdered by electric chair. He was convicted of murdering two girls. He was innocent. His trial took 10 minutes and the jury was completely white.
Inky yeah, it’s gotten a lot better that’s for sure. Racism still happens but it’s definatly rare
Edit: I mean I’ve rarely encountered racism. Like by rarely I mean in 6th grade because I was bullied because I was a paleface (I was super pale, I was depressed at the time and never really went outside at all). Looking back at it, 6th grade was the most racist of them all. In the halls I would hear black and white people calling each other overcooked and undercooked potatoes. I just don’t understand how anyone can get that mindset
Inorganic shroom Well in the south it’s still pretty common, Especially in the Deep South, It’s filled with KKK members. But luckily they didn’t do anything to hurt my family 🤦🏽♀️
BOBA TEA I’m sorry. I used a bad choice of words. It’s Not rare, but it’s not as bad as it used to be, at least I think. I’m sorry that your in an area like that. I hate that that’s still a thing, but it’s like good guys and bad guys. There are more normal and anti racial people then racist people. I just wish the police would be able to arrest them all, that would be amazing. I know that, at least where I live, the police are not “racist blood thirsty killers” like the media says they are. A lot of people just go off what the news says, or a certain time frame someone decides to show you. You have to do research if you actually want to know what happened, including using multiple sources and footage. Being said, there are definitely dirty cops that exist, but there are about like 5% of the population of cops.
Aidan Koliopoulos No, we shouldn’t forget our past. The past happened, and we need to know how to do better. If we tried to forget about every bad thing in the pass then chances are it will happen again.

I work in EMS (Paramedic). It has always puzzled me as far as the inability to find 'execution drugs'. There are any number of drugs that will kill someone very quickly.
We have soldiers and militaries that will kill thousands of other soldiers just fighting for what they believe in and also killing civilians in the collateral. And people are concerned about the morality of killing one person who has actually committed heinous crimes.

Why do people still go on to murder knowing that this will be the consequence?
Insanity, a sense of failure in their life, insecurities, no close bonds with anyone, unable to feel remorse for others(psycopathy), wanting to feel power/control, little to no impulse control. These are people whether mentally ill or not with serious mental health and behavioral problems.
Its definitely baffling to us average folk who would not commit these crimes. But that is what drives people to kill and its unbelievable to hear these documentaries where the story is about the killer and why and how they feel after what they did.
