It is not under-rated. It is very much appreciated. The song was a super hit in July 1970. I was in London at that time and remember very well how me and friends loved it. I even bought the single. The lyrics are fantastic.
I sing this song frequently to my daughter because she's got a golden doodle named Lola. But back in the 70's none of us knew what this singer was talking about. Just dawned on me one day that Lola was a man dressed as a woman after all these years. The 70's were such a wild ride, I'm 64 yrs old. Lol 😂
All I can say is your guys were living in a cave if you didn't know what this is about. Drag Queens were well known back then. Most of us just couldn't believe they put this on the radio. Even if Lola had been a woman, the "I'll make you a man" was a bit much for the radio then. BTW, this song WAS banned on the BBC, but not because of Lola. It was because they mentioned Coca Cola, making it a commercial plug for a company per BBC regulations. Same thing happened to the Beatles with "Come Together".
Same, it always makes me smile. Love all their stuff. When All Day and All of the Night, Tired of Waiting and You Really Got Me came out, I had never heard guitar like that. Just loved these guys. Still do.
I remember sitting on the garage wall very near the Davis brothers house waiting for them to come out and they would run to the pub next door to where they lived, that was in 1965, still love the music ❤

What a celebration of infinite diversity! So proud of my KINKS!
Such a great live performance!
70s bands kicked ass...I was born in 72...my mum played music in our house constantly....
One of my favourite songs.x❤
"I ALMOST fell for my Lola" - brilliant lyrics 50 years ahead of their time. This also my favourite viewing of this song.
You’re right. Absolutely brilliant and ahead of it’s time.
I do not get the lryics. i think their amazingness is lost on me ^_^
It's the 2020s and only now is the song STARTING to catch up to its time.
I'm 54 and remember me and my brother and sister singing this walking to 6th grade Middle School in 1981. It was so catchy and easy to sing. Even as a preteen I understood the lyrics and thought the idea of a man dressed as a woman funny but at that age didn't understand the cultural revilence yet, it was just a fun song to sing.
Even today I sing along in the car as my two teen daughters roll their eyes at me. Lololol
50 years later - still LOVE this song. You guys.....
Summer 1970. As a 9 year old boy this was my first realisation of a hit song and by what a hit! Remember traveling up the London rd in Goodmayes in my brothers Ford 100E Pop. and Lola seemed to be playing ALL the time - Bloody Awesome!
Successful song of Kinks...Unforgettable!
Schöne Erinnerung an frühere Zeiten. Oh wie waren wir gut drauf
