Thank you for sharing this video! Although I am happy to work with the ACR HDR feature and follow all your recommendations, I cannot convert the file from 32 to 16/8 bit without losing all the jobs I made. I mean it works until the preview during the conversion. When I click OK, the result is a disaster. Could you help?
I've gone through your process several times and am very optimistic about the results. When converting to 16 or 8 bit, the image becomes so gaudy. So, taking it from gaudy to perfect is the challenging part for me. I would like to see more information regarding the tone mapping process.
Great video! Im just starting to learn the PS tools for HDR. If im editing fairly standard single exposure images, should I be saving all my final edits as JPGXL to future proof? Or would a single exposure fit nicely in the 8bit SDR range? Is it worth the hassle?
I get this amazing looking image by going the HDR route, but I dont know what am I doing wrong when I want to swing it from Photoshop back to Camera Raw after going Image - Mode - 16 Bit, I get this very bland mushy image in Camera Raw. HDR mode is gone. Can someone advise what the problem might be here?
Quite honestly and candidly... Photoshop has changed so much in the last year and I would be 100% lost without your knowledge and education. This video... brilliant and so easy to understand.

@@photoshopcafe Hi Colin. Is that 'HDR Output' Tech Preview option only in the latest update to Ps? I don't see it listed in my rel. of Tech Previews. Can someone please explain, as per steps in this vid, why when I open HDR image after converting it from 32 to 16 in Ps which opens it back in Camera Raw, image does not open as HDR? HDR button top right under histogram is also grayed out.
Wow, I really love that you can now control all aspects of HDR instead of relying on 3rd party software that is terribly inadequate with often, gaudy results. This is fairly complex, but will be well worth the effort for special photos and situations.
3:54 I had HDR on, but image looked different than in Lightroom, I enabled SDR but it seemed to make it look right. I clicked ok. But nothing happens. Also Camera raw did not read the settings, so I had to match them to Lightroom. Saving it doesn't work, Sky is still blown out. Seems like there might be a bug in the latest version of Photoshop. But a workaround is to open the folder and open the JPG in Photoshop instead.
Just lately I have noticed that my images edited in camera raw are the best part of a stop darker when I return to photoshop. Not sure how this is possible? Any ideas?
I’m working with a single B&W negative in RAW. I click on HDR which does wonders for this particular image. However… when I select open in Photoshop to view and save or export, the image is not the same as when I had it opened in RAW. The HDR effects are gone. ??
Can’t complete the final render to say, a jpeg. The adjustments are visible in RAW but disappear once I open in PS. Normally, once you make changes to an image in RAW, then you click Done or Open, those changes will be seen in PS - then you save or save a copy or export to whatever final file type you want - tiff or png or jpeg or whatever. I’ll have to make a clip to better illustrate the issue.
Yes, because it lets us output HDR in a shareable format. The legacy HDR toning in PS is the same. I’m Just demonstrating some options, the new stuff is in Camera Raw. My written steps simplify it a bit.
I am curious...Why not make this RUclips Video in HDR so that those of us with a Mac XDR display could view the tutorial in HDR???? I tried it with both Chrome and Safari and the video is in HD SDR????

HDR is AI based. No magic. 3,5 or more pictures with similar bracketing can be made into a “HDR” photo. AI will attempt to take the best of each photo and combine with the others (very simply explained). Our cameras will take multiple picts. Beside exposure, ISO and other settings may differ.
