Penang has one of the best talent for semi conductor as well as chip making . Therefore don’t pin point or blame Penang for no reason. This industry require high technical knowledge and many countries won’t be able to supply.
All the country that do well in chip manufacturing , are with Confucianism culture. For chip manufacturing, a high level of discipline is the key, and most Americans today don't possess it. They call it “forced labour" Taiwanese media reported on August 2 that TSMC claimed the production holdup at its Arizona facility was caused by a shortage of trained American labour and that they had sent staff from Taiwan to assist with the factory's development. Labour union officials in Arizona, on the other hand, criticised TSMC for exploiting this as a justification to bring in "low-wage foreign labour."
1. Semiconductor Industry Hub: Malaysia has become a global hub for advanced chip manufacturing, attracting major players like Intel, NVIDIA, and Texas Instruments. 2. Historical Presence: Malaysia's journey began with Intel's first overseas factory in Penang in 1972. Its strategic location, cost-effective labor, and English-speaking workforce have made it an attractive destination for chipmaking ventures. 3. Diplomatic Finesse: Malaysia's "active neutrality" policy allows it to maintain friendly relations with both superpowers, positioning itself as a safe haven for chip manufacturing amidst escalating tensions. In summary, Malaysia's long-standing presence, strategic location, and diplomatic agility have propelled it to the forefront of the US-China chip war. 🇲🇾💻🌐
The decision to move from agricultural to industrial economy was made by Dr Mahathir back in the 80's. Back then many big japanese & koreans corporations came to invest. But these are all low end chips. Now as the industry become more mature the advance chip packaging comes in droves.

They call it “forced labour"
Taiwanese media reported on August 2 that TSMC claimed the production holdup at its Arizona facility was caused by a shortage of trained American labour and that they had sent staff from Taiwan to assist with the factory's development. Labour union officials in Arizona, on the other hand, criticised TSMC for exploiting this as a justification to bring in "low-wage foreign labour."
Penang has alot of small and medium size companies that support the chip making industriy....penang produces quality precision tools...mold and dies
For sure Penang support for china....
Malaysia will be the tech hub.
Malaysia is amazing country ❤
The decision to move from agricultural to industrial economy was made by Dr Mahathir back in the 80's. Back then many big japanese & koreans corporations came to invest. But these are all low end chips. Now as the industry become more mature the advance chip packaging comes in droves.
Yes. Under look east policy. Some students are sent to further study in Korea and Japan

More and more of our younger generation prefer geek economy and setting their ambition as youtuber, KOL, content creator etc. Food delivery riders, e-hailing drivers are everywhere. Science and Math no longer interest them..
And with our PISA scores are getting lower than our neighboring countries like Vietnam. Other countries have move on while we are still debating whether Science and Math should be taught in BM or English.. I foresee that the country would likely to import high skill workers from other countries like India, China, the middle east. This phenomenal is already happening in our local IT industry..
We allow foreign chip makers to setup their plant here but benefitting foreign talents..
That's why our govt is stepping up the game on TVET but it will take time for the programme to increase the number of technologically savvy workers.
