  • This inexpensive, stabilised, autofocus 15-45mm lens from Fujifilm proves you don't need to spend a lot of cash to make great images.
It's bitingly sharp with great colour and contrast, and plenty of background blur too.
It's very light, small and portable - a real go-anywhere lens with a great range of focal lengths, equivalent to 23-70mm on full frame.

Can't beat the 15-45 lens for the money . It may not be a perfect design , but it its optically superb. Good shout Nigel 👍.

I agree very nice image out of this lens, low weight and size however the problem I have had is the electronic zoom which is difficult (for me) to find the focal length, it also rattles. If you can get past that the image quality is excellent. Currently £134 from MPB UK.

Exactly how I feel. *Very* nice lens, but the electronic zoom is an annoyance..

Thanks for bringing this lens up for discussion - I'd forgotten all about it. While I don't like the absence of an f-stop ring, I have a lens or two w/o the ring and use the wheel on the camera as you pointed out, so that's not a deal breaker, but losing your zoom spot should the camera be turned off, is (to coin a phrase) a "turn off" that will require some thought. Nice video with great sample shots 👍

I have one in my bag usually attached to my XE-1. Great little lens that's surprisingly sharp. Under rated for sure.

I bought mine beacuase I am poor and old and I needed a wide angle for my XT4. I have no problem recommending it, despite it being plastic, non weather sealed, and having the stupid power zoom. Mine cost me £150, but considering the price of wide fuji lenses, a complete bargin. And yes it is very very sharp.

I feel much the same about the Lumix 12-60 f3.5-5.6 Nigel. It’s 24-120mm equiv on my Olympus EM5 mkiii and is my go-to lens when I’m not shooting on vintage lenses. A great value lens and weather sealed too!

Nigel, the best point and shooter with a 1.5" sensor and a 28-112 zoom is the original Canon G1X! You can get a really nice used one for under $200. I got mine for $148! It is amazing. All metal construction. Fully articulated screen. Built in 3 stop ND. 60 sec exposures. Big files and gorgeous jpegs. Do your channel a favor and let them in on this little gem of a camera.

    • @michaeld5888
      @michaeld5888 2 месяца назад

Terrible close focus with the original G1X needing to switch to 'macro' at some distance and the G1X II is a better bet fixing the problems though dropping the naff optical viewfinder. I have had had both. The sensor is nowhere near in quality to a Fuji one in poor light. I would recommend looking on a comparometer before going for this one. A Fuji with a 15-45mm seems a more flexible option.

If nobody has mentioned this you can assign on the XS-10 fine zoom to the focus ring but need AF+MF disabled for it to work. Also on the XS-10 zoom level does return on switch on. These are more a body/firmware issues than with the lens itself.

I have it's sister, the Fuji 16-50 3.5. On the older bodies it came with, you had to press the macro on the back ring, (my X-M1) like pocket cameras from that period. Not so on the later ones. Always good to make sure you have the latest firmware in these lenses. My 16-50 came out with a version II. Auto focus is super fast on later bodies and center sharpness is as good as my 16mm 1.4 Fuji. So shoot some macros in various zoom positions to see what's the sharpest. I just used it for a portrait shoot because I didn't want to think about the camera (my Fuji X-H1) or the lens. Plus both the body and lens are stabilized. Everything I hand held was nailed. So, check your firmware against the Fuji versions online. And nice day out there!

The also have the Fujifilm XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS II Lens. Amazingly, it is an excellent lens. It came with my XT-20. I though it would be trash...But it freaked my head out, regarding how good it is.

11:55 They claims 3 stops for the IS.
I agree with you about power zooms, and another thing is they eat into battery life.
I'm surprised it has such good optical performance. There's a lot of talk at the moment in the Fujifilm community about which lenses can take advantage of the new(ish) 40mp sensor. I wonder how this would fare.

I got this lens on the X-A5 that I bought for my wife to use as a point and shoot version of my X-E's. I've never used it at all, I wonder how it compares with the more expensive kit zoom, the 18-55mm?
I'll have to give it a try, it certainly produces lovely images on the X-A5.
The images you have posted look really nice, I must say, Nigel. Fuji glass is very good, probably the best of all kit lenses by any manufacturer.

I also have the 16 - 50mm 3.5 -5.6; I mainly use this with my X-T10 I don't think it is quite as the 14-45, on my X-T1 I bought the fabulous XF 18 -55 2.8 - 4 the Japanese made one this lens is in a different class, I consider to be on of the finest zoom lens in it class. I would never sell this lens or my X-T1, I am not interested in video only stills and the XT1 dose those best

I only have one Fuji lens for my full spectrum converted XT100, and it's this one. Bought it dirt cheap used just to have an auto focus lens. I expected to mainly use old manual lenses adapted, but I've ended up using the 15-45 a lot! Impressed by the optics in such a cheap lens... could do without the electronic zoom though.

@zenography I just picked up an 'as new' Mir 1B 37mm F2.8 M42 mount lens on Ebay for £65 (£102 delivered from Kazakhstan). It was a bit of a gamble and I got it for the bokeh effect possible by flipping the front lens. However its turned up today and its an absolute gem of a lens! On the Fuji GFX, no vignette and lovely sharp contrasty lens. Looks like a very underrated lens and potential for a feature on the channel.

If you turn off AF+MF in X-T2/T20/E3 & newer bodies, the zoom behaves much more predictably and easily adjusted. The 15-45 has become my preferred grab-n-go when I
wish to go light and casual.

Is there a way to make this lens remember the focal distance? When I view an image, it then goes back to the widest focal distance and loses by setting.

This is only af/is-lens I have. I've used it mostly taking pictures of our cat in action etc. Otherwise I use (too many) mf vintage lenses, even if they aren't optically as good as the 15-45. I have this old guy disease and just enjoying using antiques from my anologue youth. Whenever I've had temptation for something modern, I haven't found a good reason go beyond this cheap & sharp multitool.
