I intend to agree with you I got to meet this iconic guy years ago in Charlotte NC he was a great nice fella and I have one of his paintings and he did live in Lake Hickory
Yeah but dukes of Hazzard made James Best who he is for 7 years. I've seen him on gunsmoke I see him on some other Western shows he was always getting shot killed off. He never was the main actor. But James Best to me shows his true acting on the dukes of Hazzard
@@raywhite4146 you're 💯% right about that! Especially if you've ever seen Moonrunners, the movie Dukes of Hazzard was based on. The original "Sheriff Roscoe Coltrane" was a very dull, nearly lifeless character. What James Best was able to turn that character into is beyond amazing!
Mr. Best used to live near us and would come to the local fair with another gentlemen who had a General Lee replica and play the part of Roscoe. James best was definitely one of the best people here in 2023 still love him very much including me got the entire dukes show on DVD it's nice to have and seeing all the great moments
He used to come to Lenoir city Tennessee every year to go fishing in the lake . I was very fortunate to have met him and his wife and talk with them . He was a kind down to earth man . He treated everyone with respect regardless of what their status was . I did two caricatures for him one he kept the other one he signed and I still have it . I was able to see and talk with him in Mayberry ( Mount Airy ) North Carolina . I thanked him for for being kind to people that others would not have . I never missed an episode of dukes of hazard … when I was a kid.. we had a toy general Lee and hazard county sheriff car and we used to make dirt jumps and make them jump each other…in 1981 for Christmas that year I got a dukes of hazard go cart.. I’m so glad I can pass this on to my son ..
It's a feel good show. It got me through my childhood. Taught me about friendship, loyalty and right from wrong. It should be on tv now, my God the kids need it
Almost 53 (Not sure how that happened!) BUT. My god I love these guys so much! Wholesome, kind, and fun and sometimes silly. Happy Days, beautiful memories.
This video brought tears to my eyes. 😢James lived life to the fullest. Especially seeing James and Sorrell fishing together. Brought a lot memories back when I was a kid. Thank you James for the memories.

I hope there's a way for RUclips comments to be read in Heaven, because I feel like James Best deserves to know how loved he was and still is. Thanks for posting this, somehow it helped ease my stress levels which have been unhealthily high lately.

Some of the BESR times of my life with growing up and rised by my grandparents it was one most greatest understanding differences to have for the age gap me being born 1976 and my grandpa born in 1925 and my grandma born in 1935 it was that show that made me listen and understand the value of real family and I miss them so much and owe the the world and a world where you didn't have to lock doors or knock people just came in and you couldn't wait to see who it was and the whole neighborhood was like family and the grown ups look out for like parents to . In the beginning of this love it. Oh I love it Hot pursuit is my life. I’m so thankful to have the box set of all the series of the Duke’s . I can’t get enough. One day I’ll own a 69 charger. Wish he was still around to chase me lol. He’s the best.
I remember as if it were yesterday, hearing the theme song start playing, and running from the kitchen to the living room, dinner plate in hand. didnt want to miss any of it. the ONLY time we we didnt eat at the dinner table as a family. we ALL enjoyed our meal on Dukes of Hazzard night in front of the Boob tube...
Seeing this comment kinda makes me chuckle. In the pilot and a few of the initial episodes, the whole show was a kind of dark satire on the South. Bo & Luke were a couple of ne'er do well parolees with their gang of misfits who were always trying to put one over on the corrupt powers that be in Hazzard County, namely the local political boss, Boss Hogg and his tamed Sheriff, Roscoe. Yes, you read that right, Bo & Luke were in a gang! A kind of hillbilly mafia to rival Boss Hogg's county syndicate. Also, Roscoe wasn't originally a bumbling, but lovable sheriff. Roscoe started out as the formerly competent county Sheriff who was embittered by the county voting away his pension (it's implied that Boss Hogg had a hand in that), and that's how Roscoe came under Boss Hogg's sway. It was a pretty dark origin story for all, but once the network execs realized they had a hit, the whole Dukes of Hazzard backstory got retconned to make it more appealing to a wider audience. Frankly, I think that was a good thing given the broad section of people who remember the show so fondly.
Always enjoy James best. My dad had that same Cadillac Seville believe it was an 87 but Dad was a Cadillac Man got his first one in 56 and his last one God rest his soul was a 2001 eldorado all total I think he had 14 Cadillacs.
Amazing Actor and Human. Most of us Kids rooted for the Dukes, But there was something Loveable about Sheriff, Roscoe P. Coltrane. Roscoe and Boss Hog, Buddies in Real Life. Just LOVE THIS !! This Show was a Huge part of my Childhood. Jason, THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this !!
Hot pursuit! RIP James "Jimmy" Best, thank you for making my childhood so fun watching the Dukes of Hazzard every Friday night. Got the complete series and watch it as much as I can.
I was born in Portugal and when I was a girl, we were fortunate enough to have the Dukes on Portuguese tv, it was a special treat, and one of my most favorite shows. I adored the Dukes and the whole crew. I wanted to be like Daisy Duke when I grew up. Rosco was so funny. Mr. Best seems like such a nice man. May he rest in peace.
I remember the first time I ever saw this guy was in the movie The Killer Shrews but I remember him quite well as Roscoe P. Coltrane from The Dukes of Hazzard man he was freaking hilarious on the show.
One of the all-time great actors I was just a little kid growing up watching him driving the lake every time when the Dukes always played tricks on olel Rosco
My favorite scene with him was when they thought that Bo & Duke drowned & he had to tell Jessie. The way he said they seemed to like it when he chased them & so did he. & Then said that it was never personal while trying to comfort Jessie
Yeah, even though I knew that Bo and Luke were alive in the episode, I couldn't help but cry as Roscoe was telling Jessie that they were dead. Outstanding performances by talented actors!
Thank you so much for sharing this! Not all whom were in Hollywood are bad, that's refreshing!!! Grew up loving this show! How crazy how daisy dukes were riskey back then !
I absolutely cannot relay just how important this show was in my life. It was and is my all-time favourite show. I love dogs and every dog I have had has been named after a character in this show. 😎 my current best friend is named Roscoe.
Great video post here. I will be 66 in November. I strongly remember this great show and the Sheriff here was great in fact ? Just Rosco said? The entire cast was great. James will be missed . Now he can go in hot pursuit to some other trouble makers in heaven R.I.P. James 🫡
My dad grew up in in the same town as James Best. The town is Corydon Indiana. On a trip to Indiana from Colorado, my dad and uncle Floyd took me to James Best's parents house which was a block away from the cemetery. We talked to his mother and she gave me an autographed picture of James and Flash. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. She was so nice.
I wished he showed what a talented guitar player he was in this video. I loved this insightful view into part of his personal life and also into what a talented man he was during his entire career. He was right as being labeled after Dukes of Hazard, because anytime my children would see him on something else, including reruns of The Andy Griffin show, they’d always say, “That’s Rosco Pete Coltrain!” RIP. You left many sweet memories!
Seeing Sorrel and James fishing together is something i have NEVER seen before, and i am a HUGE Dukes fan/collector, so seeing some home videos like that is really cool. Its so weird to hear Sorrel call James "Jim" instead of Roscoe. Many of us fans have heard the story of Sorrell doing his lines in Japanese, and that would be cool to witness. All in all, this was a pleasure to watch. Thanks for putting out there to share with fans.

Hey yall .. this is a repost .. great video and thank you for posting .. this took me back to the best days in my life . i truly love dukes of hazzard , i miss it so much , to all the fans that watch this .. we had a great childhood .. as this ends i feel sad again . i love you all and wish you the best . in my life i met daisy ,luke,bo, and waylon . i wish i could have met the rest of the cast , peace and love to you all cayenne from canada

James meant so much to me. he was my idol all throughout high school. i wrote once to him and he answered me back, sending me a print of one of his paintings. i was in college, taking a teaching course when i read the news of his passing. we took a 5 minute break in the course and i spent my break just crying my heart out
I sold magazines over the phone in 2010 and James best bought from me.....he done the voice for me when I asked if he was the one and only James best.....it was so cool.....my co-workers were jealous
I watch the dukes of hazzard still to this day! I’m only 30 an I remember watching them when I was younger an it brings me such joy! I only wish the world seen it for a true down home show instead of what all the politicians made it out to be because of the flag on the good old general Lee! Forever my favorite show!
I was a huge fan of the Dukes, and loved Rosco P Coltrane. His shenanigans with Boss are still hilarious over 40 years later. I've seen few things James did prior to The Dukes of Hazzard, and one of them was as a musician on The Andy Griffith Show. Even the Westerns he did are amazing. I never had the chance to meet him, but if I had it would have been a real treat.
I religiously watched Dukes of Hazzard every Friday night for years. I loved them, the fall guy, MacGyver, and earlier Different Strokes. Grew up with this show. Loved Daisy Duke and Bo and Luke. The car jumping was awesome. I'd take my matchbox cars and jump them like the General Lee. Great time to grow up, the 80s
I will turn 50 years old this year (2023) and I can't even begin to describe how much I loved this show when I was a kid. Wonderful memories!
Same age and same feels here. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Same age here too. Legends ❤
The same here this show made me who I am. Most of what i did in a car I learned from this show.
I was taking a greyhound to Arizona about 24 years ago and I saw a guy at a rest station and he had the first vehicle from the show on a trailer
I turned 50 last year I grew up on The Dukes of Hazard

He played guitar on an episode of Andy Griffith one time.
I really wish people would get over themselves and watch the show to see the real meaning of it it was about friendship and family
I think they'd rather listen to Young Thug and J. Cole with their wholesome lyrics.
I intend to agree with you I got to meet this iconic guy years ago in Charlotte NC he was a great nice fella and I have one of his paintings and he did live in Lake Hickory
That's what happens when you use a terrorist flag on the roof of the general other then that I think it was a great show

James truly was a Best.❤
Thank you so much for sharing this!
Not all whom were in Hollywood are bad, that's refreshing!!!
Grew up loving this show!
How crazy how daisy dukes were riskey back then !
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for leaving a comment!!
James 🫡
Thanks for commenting. Glad this brought you joy.
I miss that man. He is so funny. Just a fun guy makes everyone laugh.
Rosco it's been realy great to have seen you again been a long time ago.
This man specifically made me smile as a child!!!
Thanks for putting out there to share with fans.
i loved them on the show they always made me laughed especialy when roscoe kept on destroying his patrol car
@@doncook3964 wreckin those cop cars must have cost boss a ton of money. Thats why he was always involved in shady business deals with lots of cash. You would think boss would have just fired roscoe, but boss kept roscoe around cause he was "dirty ruthless." Boss said, "gimmie dirty rutless ANY day."
@@vaccumsealed Boss couldn't fire Rosco cause his wife Lulu was Rosco's older sister and she'd a given Boss about 10 shades of Hell if he did that.

He will be missed as he is like part of our family
best part of my life still to this day .. many of us share something.. our first love daisey duke ..
Thanks for sharing. Takes me back to a simpler time.
James meant so much to me. he was my idol all throughout high school. i wrote once to him and he answered me back, sending me a print of one of his paintings. i was in college, taking a teaching course when i read the news of his passing. we took a 5 minute break in the course and i spent my break just crying my heart out
Thanks for sharing that story. It made my day
James was one heck of an actor and also a fine painter. Love all the stories but the Flash story is my favorite....
We love you James . You made the show worth watching and fun . We still miss you our Roscoe ❤
He really was the show. Take him out and nothing works. Fantastic talent.
Greatest show ever when my friends were getting in trouble I was home watching the dukes of Hazzard and i have all the DVD series
He was one of my favourite actors embedded in my childhood memories.
If only times were still like that. He reminded me of myself back then.
They all brought so much laughter into our homes, THANK YOU!
I'm in tears. RIP James.
I sold magazines over the phone in 2010 and James best bought from me.....he done the voice for me when I asked if he was the one and only James best.....it was so cool.....my co-workers were jealous
There'll never be another like him. RIP James.
I love this video of James best he was my favourite in the dukes of hazzard
Thanks Karen!
A brilliant and fun actor. Who made so many people lives happy with brilliant acting and comedy ☺️. RIP James.
I watch the dukes of hazzard still to this day! I’m only 30 an I remember watching them when I was younger an it brings me such joy! I only wish the world seen it for a true down home show instead of what all the politicians made it out to be because of the flag on the good old general Lee! Forever my favorite show!
Makes me feel like watching dukes of Hazzard, again!
@@maryellenshock I have the complete series on dvd
I was a huge fan of the Dukes, and loved Rosco P Coltrane. His shenanigans with Boss are still hilarious over 40 years later. I've seen few things James did prior to The Dukes of Hazzard, and one of them was as a musician on The Andy Griffith Show. Even the Westerns he did are amazing. I never had the chance to meet him, but if I had it would have been a real treat.
I love. TV show TheDukes of Hazzard. James best. I like very nice God Bless you. 😊
RIP James/Roscoe, thanks for the good times
I religiously watched Dukes of Hazzard every Friday night for years. I loved them, the fall guy, MacGyver, and earlier Different Strokes. Grew up with this show. Loved Daisy Duke and Bo and Luke. The car jumping was awesome. I'd take my matchbox cars and jump them like the General Lee. Great time to grow up, the 80s
James Best was always a gentleman. One of the greats of acting and lots of fun on the Dukes Of Hazard!
