      Hebrews 7:1-3
      For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth part of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace. Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually.
      Soothing voices are cool, but make sure to study the Bible..people don't always know what they're talking about.

      @@bibleproject I watched a video a few years ago that you guys will really love and that will clear up all misunderstandings about Shem and Melch. There is a major discrepancy btwn the Hebrew Masoretic and the Septuagint. 650yr discrepancy! They both can't be correct! Shem as Melchizedek is a sleight of hand to discredit the book of Hebrews and Jesus as our High Priest.
      Video is: Were the Pyramids Built Before the Flood?
      This will also clear up the misconceptions and distortions used to claim that the Flood timeline was after the pyramids were built and other claims as well used to discredit biblical history. Awesome stuff! Check it out please! Blessings!

      That's nice, but make sure to study the Word for yourself because people can often speak in error:
      Hebrews 7:1-3
      For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth part of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace. There's a really important skillset to reading the Bible that I am so glad you all are highlighting. We as 21st century, likely western, likely 1st world thinkers have all sorts of innate questions and values that we bring to Scripture without realizing it. When we do that, we can get hung up on (important) questions that are nevertheless irrelevant to the message of the text. Questions like "Does God take sides?" or "Does God approve of slavery?" are definitely worth asking and discussing, but they are also not at all what the text is actually talking about. Thinking about the Bible in those terms has really opened my eyes a lot to the message that *is* there, and I have you all to thank for that.
    Keep up the excellent work and God bless!

    Does God take sides? Joshua asked the same question to the angel of Lord who answered, He stood for for Himself neither on one side or the other. So, I think God always takes His won side, that of the fulfilment of His words and purposes.

    Reading the Bible literally is dangerous (as shown by some of the questions) especially when someone takes a little chunk of the Bible and then tries to apply it to todays way of living instead of the whole context. The Bible is about love (God's Love and the way we should uplift our Love towards God and man). Bring Love into the world and not negativity and hate. Let your Love ripple out to the world - we need it. ❣

    Woah. "Spread the garden". Just conjecture here, but that sounds like a great image of the kingdom of God growing. If Eden was an image of a temple and Adam and Eve were commissioned to tend to it and multiply, it's kinda like an image of the kingdom of God and the great commission.

      + comunions in the first churches also were great meals like feasts. Not a tiny piece of bread and wine. (I. Corinthians 11:21)

  • @derekdunbar6352
    @derekdunbar6352 Год назад

    When Tim says the Hebrew word for "bread" can also mean "feast," he is talking about a really common linguistic phenomenon called a synecdoche. We use them in English all the time. For example, when we say "Offer your hand in marriage," "hand" stands in for the whole person. It isn't just your hand that gets married. Speakers of ancient Hebrew used "bread" in the same way to mean not just the bread, but the whole meal.

    If only they did one on king david's greatest mistake. I once got my self into a situation where I was a little too obsessive over a crush I once had. I never had bad intentions, but the way I went about things was not okay. She called me a stalker and I was forbidden from every talking to her again. After my greatest mistake I felt like David after his greatest mistake. I was disgusted at myself for not having enough self control. Just like David I can't go back and fix my mistakes. The pain has mostly faded as i have come to terms with my mistakes over the years. Even when you are sorry for your mistakes action may leave consequences that never go away until heaven. I trusted in God and he blessed me, I cried my heart out to Lord all of the worst times of my life. I feel forever indebted to the lord for all he has done for me and how many times he has saved me from me.

    The point when they're thinking of a word to describe an abundance of food for bread and wine. I'm like - Thanksgiving! 😂

      It was an abundance of food they were thinking. It was a English word that could describe a single object (bread) and can also mean a feast. I don’t think of a single food when I think of Thanksgiving… okay maybe turkey 😂

      @@auggie1790 It seems in 2 Samuel 12:8 that God "gave [David his] master's house, and gave [his] master's wives". Why would God give David wives if he did not, at least situationally, accept it as morally okay? I'm not justifying polygamy, but the scriptures have several examples of notable prophets seemingly receiving multiple wives from God. (also see Jacob, Leah and Rachel)

    • @DANtheMANofSIPA
      @DANtheMANofSIPA 3 года назад +3

      @@orangechicken1005 It is clear through scripture that when Man and Woman were created, so was marriage. And that when marriage happens, a man cleaves to his a wife and they become one flesh. One flesh, not two or three or 300. However, God made polygamy valid, but not licit, during the time of the Old Testament due to the hardness of the Hebrew and Israelite hearts.
      Everytime multiple wives are mentioned, it is almost always a bad thing. David essentially rapes Bathsheba and kills Uriah, then later on puts away a bunch of his wives forever and never returns to them which is pretty messed up. Solomon is the wisest man to ever live, however, was ruined due to him following his wives into idolatry. In the story of Isaac, Ismael and his mother are banished from his camp and almost die in the desert because of the polygamous action. In the story of Joseph, Jacob loves Joseph the most because he came from his first wife, which leads the other brothers to sell him into slavery.
      In all these stories polygamy is framed as the root of the suffering. While you can argue that Titus, Jesus, Timothy, and Paul dont forbid it, it is clear that it is seen as less than ideal and very very dangerous

    When God made everything, He made everything really good. We messed up by choice and since then He has been working to get us back to Him with new bodies in a new heaven and new earth. So slavery and other bad human traits are all from our choice, but yet God still forgives and restores through the blood of His dear son Jesus Christ.
    There was a seer or prophet who was not a Jew called Ballaam. Ballaam's deep relationship with God before the law shows us that God is always seeking to restore mankind to the Garden scene, it just depends on if we are willing. Plus Jesus Christ's sacrifice makes access to God so much easier.

    Good and engaging video! However I have two 'quibbles': 1) Linking Hagar as a slave given by pharaoh is reasonable but a whole lot of inference. 2) Pre Jerusalem was inhabited by *Amorites & Jebusites* in Scripture. Sorry to be critical as I really appreciate your work and your quite obviously high standards. It was (in my humble opinion) that this session fell short of the mark, as we all do.

    I think it's important to note that slavery in Biblical times is not what we know as modern day slavery. Back then, if you ended up owing someone a great deal of money and couldn't pay it back, you would be enslaved to that person, often voluntarily, until the debt was paid. At that point, the enslaved was to be freed from service. That wasn't always the case but that seems to be the form of slavery that God accepted.

    There were priest before Abraham and Priest not of his lineage. Jethro, Moses' father in law was a priest. If you look through the old and new testament, we often see people of other tribes that have had contact with God. But if it ever came between them and the Israelite, God chose the Israelite to carry out his ultimate plan. But he wouldn't create the rest of the world and just ignore it like it's not there.
