This is an uncomfortable conversation people in my country need to have. The Philippines is the biggest exporter of labor in shipping and healthcare. Whenever a Filipino nurse leaves the country and goes abroad, a large swathe of their immediate family believes they are then automatically millionaires and expect to have all of their money problems handled by someone else. Hold up you buy someone a house and they want you to pay all the bills every month too? 😳😳😳
Yup!
Nah he brought a house and rented it back to his family for probably cheaper then market value. If they could pay rent it would've just been cheaper and made more sense to assist with the 10-20% down on a modest home.
He put the down payment for family members since most can’t save to qualify. Or them pay him $1,300/mo for mortgage as he probably paid cash so they can qualify for a home. Rather pay him than pay some slumlord.
It’s fair, he sacrificed a lot to get there so they all need to do the same

The only people I'd look after is my parents, because they raised me, took care of me, put up with my bs, and were there in my darkest times. My siblings would get nice gifts once in a while, and I'll help but if I have a family by the time I'm successful, they have to know my money and time will be primarily focused on them and my parents.
As soon as you come into money the word spreads fast in all kinds of acquaintances and they become your best friends

As a landlord it’s business. Unfortunately Friend’s and family expect you to give hand outs and then treat you badly when you giving them a break. They treat stranger landlords like gold. It’s a universal human trait.
I would invest into my family. They need to come to me with a full presentation of their business idea. From A to Z. I'm not giving no money to nobody free-handedly.
Facts do me the same way you do the banks when you go in there trying to get a business loan give me a PowerPoint presentation

There have been plenty of families that have messed up these situations. Not just black families, all ethnic groups have this same problem. You have to have the mindset to do business right.

My rule was always “Mom and dad get a free ride because I owe them. Everyone else needs to earn it.”
It is funny when kids feel they owe their parents it is the craziest logic ever! We you are born it is the parent's duty, and responsibility to raise you and give you everything you need. You don't owe your parents for bringing you into this world. Crazy logic but hey

This is good advice for any family relationship. It’s really important to set boundaries. Otherwise, someone will over step yours.
The second you get any kinda money, no matter if that is the life insurance from your mother passing, or hitting the lotto, random family members that you hadnt seen in years will start showing up outta the woodwork asking for money and trying to be your friend.
Edit: when the tap runs dry, they are all gone again like they never knew you.
Lol
this happened to me in 2019 my pops passed and they all wanted some of the insurance money and we barely knew these random people saying they’re family and my grandma actually gave them money when it was supposed to be only for family members

I’m telling you. When you “make it out” in any form the first thing on your mind is the take care of the ones that raised you. And 90% they take advantage and burn the bridge. Happened to me when I joined the military. Military doesn’t even pay well but it pays better than poor. Had to make some hard decisions so this video spoke volumes to me.

Facts!!
An example of family being worse than friends..
Shaq once said “we’re not rich, I”m rich “
Tracy McGrady said something similar about his family which was pretty cool. I thought about that for many years and said that if I ever won the lottery I would send those that are the absolute closest people in my life a check with a statement that says “you can never ask me for any more money, and if you do I will cut you out of my life permanently“.
The second thing I would do though is set up an education fund for the closest family members and my friends which for me would be about 20-30 people and if they wanted to go to school I would pay for it, but it would have to be trade school or a degree that contributes to society.
What?! No gender studies degree, tire shop or dress shop?! Lol.
Very interesting analysis
How can someone have the audacity to be resentful when no one is obligated to do for them? The time, energy, and dedication it takes to be a professional athlete can't be used as an entire family's meal ticket. Mom and children are top priority. I'm not going broke or crazy trying to please everyone.
That is everyday wisdom
“Brother in law” boy you a grown ass man with responsibilities for knocking up my sis if you don’t miss me with that bs
