  • Hey Guys!
    I was asked to do another set up on a guitar, this time on an Epiphone Dot Deluxe in a beautiful sunburst finish. It turned out to be the best Epiphone I've ever played!

    Yet people still think 335's and DOT's are bad for metal. They need to watch this. Lucas you're a beast

      Stavross Cardona just purchased one today, it sounds just as good as my SG. SG sounds a little better but this is not even bad at all. It’s very diverse.

    These were a special edition made for Musician's Friend in the early 2000's. I had one of the early ones that looks exactly like this one, but also had a flamed back. It is my favorite to this day. I wish I still had it.

    I have the exact same 335. I've had it for a number of years, and starting to really learn to play. More a chord basher than a lead player. It's getting a proper set up in the next couple of weeks, and after watching this, I cannot wait to get it done and back.

    These are the older ones with the fatter neck. I own one. Sounds exactly like this so those will be the stock pickups. It's just one of those insane guitars for the price kind of thing like the original Squier JV's out of Japan were. Seriously, it's a tusq nut away from perfect.

    Sounds very good! When I intonate my guitars, I lower the pickups, because sometimes they tend to pull the strings and give wrong tuning. Cool video! Thanks!

    • @LucasFowler
      @LucasFowler  5 лет назад +1

      I do that, and I also check and adjust the intonation with the guitar in the playing position, so the neck doesn't have gravity pulling on it. Glad you liked it!

    Im thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these, i built a kit one and put my own pickups in that i wound and it rocks. But im not satisfied with my finish i tried something new and it didn't turn out that great. I should of just lacquer it, but i tried epoxy and its sticky. I want the blue burst.

  • @Riverdeepnwide
    @Riverdeepnwide 5 лет назад +2

    Lucas if you discover what those pickups are let us know please.
    It would be cool to find out if they're Epiphone's that yeah they can hit the spot just fine.
    Then again, if they're Bare Knuckles or something, my egotistical ears would be vindicated.
    Great playing man!

    • @LucasFowler
      @LucasFowler  5 лет назад +4

      Thanks! To answer your question kind of broadly, I'd pick an album you really dig and learn all the leads off that. You will subconsciously pick up information and tricks as you do. Do that a few times and your own kind of "style" starts to form. At least that's what I did as a teenager :P

    • @brianmontalbano9811
      @brianmontalbano9811 5 лет назад

      @@LucasFowler That's a fantastic idea, thanks man! I really dig the Hidden Gems guitar pedal videos btw, keep those coming! For those of us who can't afford Gibsons and PRSs, it's nice to know about products out there that can help us get great sounds out of our budget setups lol

  • @Digiphex
    @Digiphex 5 лет назад +4

    The fade on some modern Epiphones and even Gibsons looks like they took a balloon shape piece of cardboard and sprayed around it with a rather stark line. If you look at Allman's guitar or great vintage guitars you see a nice, artistic fade. Or look at a PRS who prides themselves on fine artistry. To me that Epiphone is very ugly but I am pleased that Epiphone makes at least one guitar that doesn't suck in its quality.

    • @LucasFowler
      @LucasFowler  5 лет назад

      I wouldn't be surprised if they are using some kind of stencil/template when they mass produce these. I agree, the old guitars definitely had a nicer look!

    • @mariomessina1147
      @mariomessina1147 5 лет назад +1

      The vintage guitars had a nicer look bc they were not mass produced they were handmade . Something even overpriced Gibson’s are not anymore , they are mass produced outside of custom shop guitars . Plus back then they used lesser coats of paint to make the wood breathe more and that’s how u get the nice aged look . It’s a huge reason Eric Johnson plays vintage Gibson’s and his fender models have less paint on them too so the wood can breathe . I have owned several nice epiphones including a Epiphone Es 335 pro in cherry that I had Seymour Duncan 59 pickups put in the neck and bridge and it sounds and plays fabulous . U can get duds from any guitar company . I also owned a few 1990’s Gibson’s and the modded epiphones sounds just as good as those and play just as well . It’s all about preference
