- BNSF Funeral Train DTOPGAT travels through Justin, TX on April 9, 2020.
Mar 10, 2021 - Update Note: This video was done in April 2020. It's recently got a lot of views so it must have been shared recently. If I was editing the video today, I would probably do it differently. Not everyone appreciates the stop/start and cuts for the engine info. I get it. Given the short length of the train passing, I did replay the pass in slow-mo, and then again without interruption from a different camera. But if you really don't like it, feel free to leave a mean comment. Or, you could just go watch a different video that you like more. Either way. - Авто/Мото
R.I.P. all of these beautiful locomotives and especially 2437 who survived kismet train collision.
Its in storage in textas
@@Nkp757railfan No everything has been sold to PRLX or LETX
I remember being fortunate enough to be railfanning in Lafayette IN and catching colorful power like this on a run through train. The video was delightful, only saddened by the probable end for many of these engines.
Paul S. Do not be so hard on yourself that was an excellent video. I loved how you stopped the video and listed the heritage of each unit and your slo-mo replay. I have watched many RR Videos where someone is filming 5 minutes of empty track before a train arrived. I wish all videos were as good as yours. Do you know where these units were headed? There used to be a great one on RUclips of after BN/Metra retired their E9's in the 1990's and they sold a few off the remaining ones were sold to NRE in Silvis IL the video was of a single BN GP50 departing Aurora IL for NRE I think there were about 18 E's in total however it appears that the video was taken down I have never seen it again.
Thank you, Bruce. I appreciate it. I don't lose sleep over it but as I mentioned, the video got shared somewhere, and all of a sudden I was getting hundreds of views per day on this year-old video. Plenty of folks felt they should express their displeasure with my edits. I'm glad I got to see this train, glad I got some photos and some video. My understanding is that these units were headed for storage in Galveston. A few folks have mentioned that they were/are still there but I suppose they could be moved at any time.
I recently caught 6326 on another train on the Tehachapi pass on January 15th of this year. It was an eastbound manifest, and apparently, 6326 now has BUGX reporting marks.
Paul that was great. I haven't seen a GP30 in years. Great job!!!
0:29 Famously involved in the Kismet Collision.
OMG yeah! R.I.P. to these beautiful locomotives
Great Great video…..FINALLY someone who knows how to film trains…..look forward to seeing more of your work.
An SD45-2, C&S SD40-2, and an SDP40?! AWESOME!
250 is actually SD75I built as BNSF 8301. Lots of cool pictures you took.
Hopefully the SDP40 will be bought and preserved.
It never was on 6326
Rip all those bnsf and Santa Fe trains :(
@@magicaleditz BNSF is pretty much because before it was the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe
What happened to them
I thought the 3974 and 3970 were the dead locomotives not all those bnsf
And The 2 BN :(
Loved every bit about this video! Thanks so much for the stop and identify, it was great!
The slow mo sounded like a K5HL second Gen
Great catch. There is a locomotive facility in the Rock Island area, could be going there and on to new homes!
Really love that lashup! It's a shame they are heading for the torch :-(
They might be brought
Nice Catch Paul 🇺🇸👍🤗
Greetings from Italy 🤗😉🇮🇹
Instead of the railroad letting their old diesels set idle in their back lot they should donate some to the railway museums across the country.
I've actually worked on BNSF 2134 when it was Red and White SLSF 658. The GP38-ACs were a great Locomotive.
Very cool Jim. Thanks!
How long ago was that? You almost never see Frisco locomotives anymore!
Jacob, The Frisco RR was absorbed by the BN in 1980.
My local short line has a gp38ac.
No that means you worked at BN. The unit was repainted in 1982 to green and black.
I’m not a particular train enthusiast - but that was excellent editing.
The stop and start isn't one of my favourite things however it won't stop me from viewing your videos. Viewers do have the technology to drag the video beyond the start stop action.
That was awesome! Thanks for the update comments. Your approach, the stop/start, at first annoyed me. I would have preferred it to be at the end. I definitely appreciate the data. In my world, you don't have to be perfect. The fact you tried is what counts. You matter!
Does "DTOPGAT" stand for anything?
Yard Slug? Back to Google and Wikipedia. I've never seen one before.
Again, thank you for your efforts. May you and yours stay well and prosper.
0:33 and 0:38 I Saw These Two Trailing! This Train Was GALGFD. Both Were Trailing But The One I Saw Must Have Been a Funeral Train As Well. Nice Catch By The Way!
These are currently in Galveston. A nice sight to see.
Just save the sdp40.
That is like watching the sculling of a Carrier.
Love this video. Real good job Paul
259 is not a TEBC6 lol. That's another SD75M
Sad to see history being scrapped. Cool video tho. 👍
what are funeral trains for
Don’t tell me that 5483 was scrapped too. That thing doesn’t look anywhere near retirement condition.
It didn’t that was just the locomotive leading the train.
2134 is preserved now at Galveston. Friend told me this with photo proof.
That's good news. Thanks.
Why havent they donated any santa fe units to the Galveston rr museum
I thought it was 2127
@@ironcityrailfan8467 A few were sent there for preservation. I think it also was.
I’m so glad 2134 was rescued
I like how labeled the Locomotives.
That can only mean one thing, all those units behind the leading unit are being scrapped
Really loved this video, been forever since I ahve seen a GP 30 .
Thanks!
BNSF 259 in this video is a SD75M originally built as BNSF 8259, not a SD9. It was one of the last warbonnet units delivered after the BN/ATSF merger.
yes, I wondered about that. Depending on the roster info one has, the numbering can get confusing I think.
@@christiaanmeadows9081 SD75Ms and SD9s look very different, though. Saying a SD75M is an SD9 simply on a unit's number is just silly.
Good vid also loved the slo mo horn
Thanks!
BNSF 250 was originally built as 8301, an SD75I
Maybe if I could restore old locomotives as display in railroad or operational for hauling tourist passenger trains and Freight train on own railroad 🛤
Come to India the Indian Railways will teach you to convert them to ‘Dual Mode’ ie Electric where Overhead Traction Lines are available and Diesel in the Unwired Regions.
Nicely done. Watt was wiff these units? Going to scrap or to the reserve line?
R.I.P you will be missed
Hey I spotted an sdp40 in the dead locomotives........was this one of the bicentennial locomotives painted#1976?
I like the sound of the horn in slow motion
Vídeo espetacular demais amigo maravilha de locomotivas super lindas, parabéns like super garantido 👏💯
where were they taken to be scrapped? and will they part them out or scrap the whole thing?
They are all going to be scrapped or rebuilt or whatever?
Where were they all going?
Hopefully those locomotives can be refurbished they don't look like they're in horrible shape
They’re going to be scrapped...
@@ironmatic1 they are heading to Galveston, TX to be stored, until they are eventually auctioned off.
@@Maine_Railfan Well its better than scrapping the units.
What’re they hauling that needs so much power?
Back side what is it
What is a yard slug? I have never seen any ting like this.
Slugs aren't used a ton anymore I don't think. But it was a way to get more tractive effort, horsepower, torque, etc. without needing a complete additional engine. The slug would be paired with another engine and would just be a booster to help move stuff around in a yard. predominantly.
Wow that was a lot of Heritage BNSF. SLSF, AT&SF, GN. C&S. UP. I would love to buy the GN SDP40 they looked great in GN Big Sky Blue along with their as delivered GN Orange and Green either way they were pretty sharp. Seeing how it is now over 50 years old you could probably buy it for a reasonable price. Hopefully it has not been scrapped yet some Museum up North in GN Territory should try to get it. However there is one preserved in MN still in BN Cascade Green
What is a funeral train ?
Someday I will go to Galveston, Texas to purchase these locomotives as Operational or Display in my own Railroad set, I called it Alpine Western Railroad 🛤 and other railroad across the country
Hope you have a couple hundred thousand free cash!!
R. I. P. EMD. ! ! ! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
So the funeral train is where they decision the engines and send them for scrap right if anyone knows what this means please let me know please.
Pretty sure I saw all of those on the Galveston deadline when I visited it in October
Hard to believe a GP38AC is in that lash up. Must be being moved to another yard. I doubt BNSF is getting rid of it.
Probably
I imagine Larry's Truck and Electric might be getting them
No!!! The gp30
Think you did great!
BNSF 2437, from the Kismet Train collision.
I'm surprised that SD40 still had the C&S lettering on it
Nice 👍
Why does those 2 Santa fe looks like that in the back?
They are called "slugs" They are just "weight" with 12 wheels and traction motors. They use the electric power of another locomotive that they are permanently attached to. They are used in yards as extra traction at low speeds.
This wasn't a funeral train by no means
Is there anything more sad than the horn of a funeral train?
It looks like it's going really fast
BNSF SD75M#250
2437 was actually the same GP30 involved in Kismet
It was
when you accidentally cut your locomotives in half
Poor engines......
like cows on trucks headed for slaughter...
these locomotives have no idea whats ahead?
Was wondering which camera you used for the pictures!
I use a GoPro for the video and I have a Canon 5D Mark III still camera.
0:30 Well, I guess I got beat to commenting about this
What the hell is a “TEBC6?”
So all those trains are getting scrapped
BNSF SD75M#272
Wow sad but great catch there probably been destroyed already
Hey thats my name under the video title
BNSF GP38-2#2134
Good vid but the editing su ks better if u do single shots n labels at end not pause n edit
BNSF C44-9W#5443
ATSF GP30#2437
Those are rare santa fea
BNSF SD9#259
Last Ride
🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
Lemme guess.. Headed to galveston
🌐🌐🌐
Soooooooo who died?😳
The trains sent for scrapping
0:29 2437 from kismet train crash
BNSF C44-9W#5483
Wait a sec. BNSF....................................is dead?
No no no no no BNSF will be here forever. These are just old locomotives they are getting rid of (except the Dash 9 and 2134)
i thought someone died tbh
Got dizzy looking at this...
hola buena tarde
Good God, what a horribly put together video. Thanks, I've got epilepsy now.
That pause, go, pause, go, pause go made it unwatchable
I watched it just fine. And appreciated the stops for info. Thanks to the O.P.
