Man been absorbing your art for 13 years and now I'm thirty it's gone by in flash. From "high school drop out to university grad" most honest relatable music that I've had the pleasure to enjoy. Appreciate the content Tom
great inspiration piece, not in an anyone can do anything kind of way, but in a everythings gonna be alright kinda way. shot for this guys
As an up & comer whose listened religiously since highschool...this honestly scared me. I'm 7+ months (I lost count) into quitting my job to pursue music full time.
For the 1st 3months, I was going making music like it was as easy as breathing, Having noticeably greater success than when I was working a 9 to 5? I was feeling myself. Fast forward into really knowing how hard it is to be broke, into having ridiculous writer's block, into depression, into a storm of thoughts and emotions I didn't think I could feel? Then watching this...
I wonder does it get easier? hahaha Lord knows I've been diligent, relentlessly persistent and hardworking! (With my fair share of distractions, laziness & procrastination?) But man mixed emotions from watching this.
Off top Fear was the first emotion I felt. But strangely intense motivation and an eagerness to try my hand at navigating my life at that level. No one asked me to tell my life story hahaha but this is the internet bih.
This is honestly powerful. Blessings.
Keep it a hobby bro... Especially in NZ
How’s it going bro?
Drop some music . Im eager to hear it bro
👀
This was incredible and so real. I pursued music full time in Dunedin in 2018 and ended up on the benny, the classic story. Mental health spiralled down, but thankfully full time work was only a town away and I could rebuild what I’d lost. I wish I could have faced reality at the time, but I guess I had to go through it.
All these talented free spirited souls, if they were in countries with large populations, they would be doing well enough that music would support them enough financially as well as it is spiritually. The small size of the NZ population disadvantages our 'underground' our 'alternative, the fringe, the edgy, our real artists. The audience in NZ is so small. Eg Look at say Japan, 127 million people which is 26 times the size of NZ. Let's say the underground audience is a potential 2% of the population. That's an underground audience of 2540000 in Japan compared to 96,000 in NZ.... Life outside the majority is not easy in NZ.
Honestly seems like the struggles of growing up in a working class neighbourhood gives you an urge to be expressive of these struggles. Art in all forms provides the outlet that allows that expression. A catch 22 tho cause art hardly pays the bills. You work all day to make ends meet and maybe you can make art at night. It’s a miserable existence for creatives. Shout out to the working class. From your blue collar boys in Glen Innes
Shucks. Too many quotable lines in this... Thank you YGB for always peeling back the veneer within our country of impeccable defensive lines. Much Love X
"Advertising Execs are not creatives, it's like calling landlords architects"
Tom Scott is a generational talent #YGB
Dope as its cool to be able to have a behind the scenes look into the NZ music scene and gives me a new appreciation for the artist and also to see how humble kiwis are in general, shot Tom Scott
Far out bro, your song dedicated to... is still the best lyricism I've ever heard without a massive record deal. If not better. Thats why youre out here doing it. Fuck the money, this real.
Appreciate everything you guys make, you've all brought me so much joy and emotion over the years. YGB
Watched this last year and had to come back to it. Things really don’t change. Heartbreakingly beautiful.
A beautiful watch. Relatable on so many levels.
You guys have put out some of the most relatable enjoyable music I’ve ever heard. There’s not one track I don’t love listening to. Thank you 🙏🏽

This was incredible. So many knowledge bombs here. "We all have a fear of being still" 10000% "Practice until you hate your words, practice until you forgive them"
Ka pai YGB! thank you all for the great music. Top job Tom you the man G
What Sam said down below. Shot Tom and crew.
Also, those shots of a desolate Waiwera hot pools were heavy. Aces to the cinematographer and editor aye.
Nostalgia always heavy in their shit, pardon me "art"
Everyone our age has fond memories of that place. It set the mood right away, Just like a beat that dictates what direction the artist is gonna go in
beautiful, my friend from nz showed me home brew nearly five years ago now and i don’t think i’ve gone a good week without listening to it
it’s inspiring to see where everyone is today, people aren’t told often enough that a stable life makes for a world of adventures
we’ll all make it to family man one day
Loved this. Relatable in a sense to this senseless world of sensory overload and over doing the things we like doing until we don't know what we're doing anymore. And then trying to figure out the next bit
bump, and while im here. thank you.
Really enjoyed this it was constructed really well
Jamming the honesty in the words and expressions of urban lifestyles caught in this doco. Love it. Good and bad. It’s art. The world needs it. Thank you for your fearless spirit, leading others into their found aspirations. Avondale Up and UP! 🙏🏽
You are all beautiful lovely people thank you for everything you've given, be kind to yourselves.
Had to rewatch it again, it was even better than the first time. Shot everyone involved with making it!
needed this. shot.
Shuxx you guys have come a long way and great to hear perpectives on life moving forward. The struggle is still real.. Shout out to the haz beats
This really helped me, thank you.
Trees is an amazing album never stop making art
a massive motivation and inspiring film for young New Zealand artist.
incredible man. big up to everyone behind this and in front of the camera
This helped me. Thank you
Beautiful. You guys mean so much to us. Inspiring and a vulnerable piece, my favorite kind.
The kiwi roots run deep love our country’s artists so real
These people put out some *really* good music. Still are.
The documentary is great. I love how they had to let go of old ideas around being an artist to embrace growth in their lives, like being a father, partner and having a family. Alot of people will relate to this, and it's great to have different viewpoints of real peoples lives not some slogan.
Great Docco, awesome to see the crew and where they are at, I always find myself going back listening to the older material and getting transported to a younger simpler time in my life and feening that vibe again
Same how the visuals of waiwera gave you that same feelin,
Love Aotearoa's creative souls.... they should be supported and encouraged by the community in every possible way as clearly this can be a lonely path to follow
This makes me proud to be an unpaid part time amateur kiwi rapper living overseas. Awesome content thanks bro!
Let us hear sumthin
Went from home brew to top shelf
Thank you
Loved this. Thanks team. Tom Broome is a king amongst men
Awsome, im 36 still makein art/misic . I know exactly what you all are talkin about . I been there my kids are 11 and 7 now. I never reached a level like that so maybe its different in that aspect. But iv been there ...
Only half way through and have to comment. Great insight to musician/artist life in nz. Well done!
The New Team Dynamite album is super dope!! Top notch hip-hop.
Dope documentary
NZ doesn't do enough to support it's local artists. Ask any high schooler to name a NZ artist or musician or their music and they will struggle to do so. What gets promoted by mainstream radio stations is miniscule compared to the epic talent in this country. Sadly the only way to 'make it' in the music industry is to leave NZ. On the upside NZ has awesome talent and the world should see more and more of what our people have to offer.
Brilliant!!! Loved this!
Thank you SO much for making this. I can't wait to come home.
NO WORDS
Truely loved this guys. Thanks
