Homebrew and Tom Scott got me through my teenage years and tough times If you’re a New Zealander this music speaks to you soul Some of my fondest memories are also listening to their tunes and at the beach, with friends or parties True homegrown grassroots NZ music
I remember the album got posted on 4chan's /mu/ board back in 2012 and the descriptor was something like 'This is the first and last time rap has ever sounded like this', and I was hooked.
While living in Aus I use to listen to home brew hard out over there and I’ve never heard anything authentically kiwi like them, I hadn’t been back in Nz for years too, One day I came across a song called “Remember that” that song gave me the maddest nostalgic moments mostly all relating to my childhood, especially for me being born in the 80’s and raised in the 90’s, I consider myself pretty lucky for finding out about there music because it reminded me of home n it made me a lil bit proud to be kiwi too.
Tom Scott is a freckn genius. First time I heard his voice. I knew he is true talent. That dude should make music until he can't physically do it any more. He is number 1 in the world for me. I'm Australian and he could kick any Aussie rapper in the dick. Love you Tom, thanks for your existence
Mean doco boys, I actually don't know a hell of a lot about the group specifically, but met people who are closely related to yous. I lived in Avondale from 2007-9 on Rosebank road, I recognised the Fish and Chip shop, I use to walk over to the Basketball court just up the road from there and play against some Pakeha kids 1 on 1, and walk the back ways next to the river to New Lynn LOL, those were the good old days.
My Spotify wrapped top tracks for 2023 was literally just the TREES album. I got in this habit of going for a jog after work and listening to it cover to cover. I resonate with what he said about how albums at their best are a single work, like a story or a movie. As an Aussie I know we’re different to NZ but we’re also alike, and I think that’s part of what makes his stuff relatable to me in a way no US hip hop ever could.
Could never disappoint but this right here made me feel not alone. Homebrew, choice, and avandtdale Bowling club, has been the only reason I still love hip hop and rap and being from nz makes it more special, makes me want to be a rapper without having any rep to rap to. Mad love for the holmies still.❤
The biggest love for this crew. It’s all formative but Homebrew was pivotal. That imposter syndrome hits hard still. Still bang your shet every month. Top shelf.
Tom, home brew, and all his other projects are absolute 🔥 Been listening since the release of the first album, went to a gig in Dunedin once. NZs finest right here
Big shout out to my man Tom Broome. Those who know, know. Also spent the last 2 years in nyc, that album got me through a lot and bought me back so many times when I needed it. All love
Farmageddon was the festival haha this is when David Dallas(rose tint D dot)was meant to be headlining it, but switched D dot for HB to now headline due to the acid monkey fire haha(forgive me If i have this incorrect) but when home brew came out to stone cold Steve Austin's entrance song 🤯🤯 LEGENDARY moment you had to be there to witness the greatness 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Much love from Australia, I saw homebrew a couple times and I will never forget them, Last Week is still in my album rotation, the beats and the lyrics are unmatched, we miss the original guys putting out music
Well done lads really bringing back some memories, from where we came from to where we are now!! thanks for providing the soundtrack to the best listening and sing along hip hop, not only that some of the best years of my traumatic life which really helped me heal and feel blessed to know Art imitates Life.
Still HOMEBREW FOREVER pretti much sumz up my life story raised in the hood noone better the music GODS of nz still banging all the old music HOMEBREEEW YGB,Team Dynamite, @Peace, SkyPirates, Avantdale Bowling Club #2023 s/O NiuFm103.8 playing that HBC🎵🎶

Been on the journey since seeing you guys in Australia and you killed the set. Probably don’t remember anything but we met you minus Tom before and after the show in Geelong
That album is always gonna be a piece of Time, distilled into fine verse and music by some genuine hip hop purist perfectionists with dope swag and enough humility to keep it fun and safe, mostly 😅😅 FUCKIN GRAB LIFE BY THE TITS (or goolies) it's a precious thing. Life. And Homebrew
