  • In our last video Sam got the transmission and chassis in the 1967 Beetle ready for an engine so he picks up where he left off and now is going to get the engine ready to reinstall. He starts by pulling apart the engine a bit so a new Bosch alternator can be installed, then he removes the drain plug to drain the oil for the first time in roughly 25 years. We took a look at the title and it was signed over in 1998, so we're taking a guess that is the last time the car was roadworthy. While the engine is out and easy to work on, Sam runs the engine on the stand to make sure everything is in good shape before reinstalling it. Follow along as time ticks down to the Airhead Campers VW Roundup in Florence, AZ in November, where Sam will be debuting this car for the first time!

I'm enjoying the series. I see you ditched the 009... I'm running one right now on my DP 1600 w/ dual kadrons. What are your thoughts on Magnaspark systems? The kads don't really make enough vacuum for a vac advance dist.

Yep, sure did, I am not a fan of the 009. I have no experience with the Magnasparks but the K-duds can be drilled and tapped to run an SVDA. I had AJ Sims do one for me the last time I was running them.

Another great video Sam. Are you running flaps on the shroud on the bench test? And what’s your plan regarding reinstating the thermostat?

No flaps or thermostat yet. They aren't readily available so until I can get a full set the engine will be running without them.

About that oil pump housing... I cracked two of those ten years apart trying to split a case with it still installed. I should only be given a rubber mallet. Haa
