Dang, Joe. That's how it's done. Well prepared and you break it all down and explain everything clearly and concisely...with enthusiasm. I just won one of those pop-ups at an ice fishing contest today, and started thinking about camping. Enjoyed your vid, Brother. Thanks for making it!
I did an inaugural two day overnight camping trip and used your philosophy of bringing enough stuff. I found I needed more propane and was running out on day two and had to cut the trip short. You are absolutely right, comfort is key, when you are out in the winter elements. Thanks for posting this video.
I've always thought about it and wanted to do it but you've really inspired me to get a solid plan together to go ice-camping! I'm taking the advice of staying local to heart and going to hit a pond not far from my house for my first trip! I've never been so excited for an ice season!
Love this vid, you've got this down 99.9%. I would get a second sled and stop the 2 trip run, I'm about 75% on the floor. Instead of a cot I use a zero gravity chair with a pad, serves 2 purposes ,nough of that. I live in Arkansas and love going north for Ice fishing, been to Maine before and loved it, dream trip along with Montana, Idaho, Wyoming. One thing very important you forgot, and I am guilty of, I am 75 and a heart/lung and diabetic patient and every year I take off and forget my meds all or part, the hoops I go thru to rectify this is crazy. So all you fellow anglers, don't forget your meds.
Another great addition to this series would be to go through all your ice fishing gear you bring from the snowmobile to the tip ups and all in between. You have great content, keep pumping it out.
Great video, picked up some excellent suggestions. Pack a radio. Didn’t see a jig hole. Cut a post for the tent roof, in severe winds they will pop down on you. Have enjoyed all your ice fishing videos.
Awesome thanks. Good tips. I’ve been a little Leary of cutting the jig hole yet because we’ve been so slushed this season . Good call on the post for the roof too, I had to cut one last season but this year it’s been ok so far.
Another awesome video, lots of good information. The note in the vehicle is great advice, also always tell a family member or trusted friend where your going and when you plan on returning. "Plan your trip and stick to your plan". Doing this assures that if something goes wrong and you need help, help will know where to find you.
wish i had found this video a week ago we just got back from a winter camping trip up near chamberlain lake in the north maine woods and this would have provided us a lot more expertise and info for the trip
I have fished since I was a little kid ice fished everything to everything since covid I have started ice fishing more and to be honest since I have watched your videos I am now so excited to ice fish camp ice fish now I bought an Eskimo 650 I just want to say thank you I've watched all your videos everyone I'm helpful
If you have kids, practice camping in the back yard is a great way to get them used to the night noises. Don't forget the Smores. And something I learned from a trip with my Uncle Sam back in the 70's... Super Glue. Today I use the gel, it'll seal up a larger cut like nobody's business.
I’m supposed to ice camp next weekend for the first time . this is my first year ice fishing and I’m addicted . Got a list going and just going to wing it. Worst case I can just pack out and head home in my truck if things go south
All solid advice to take the edge off. You said that you have a list that you have now, do you have a link to it? Curious to look over it myself, planning my first trip a couple miles down the road, but i'd like to see the list that you think you have to have with you!
Thank you so much for doing this video! We have been kicking around the idea of ice camping and have watched several videos! Your video is by far the best!! I cant wait to get out there and do it! The wife not so much 😅 but my buddy is in! You covered everything! Thank you
BOSTON Luvs the Holland-man !!! Really hits a Home run when you mention the Chicken Noodle Soup 'cause that's always been my " on-Ice Go-to " food since I began my first Ice Fishing expedition on the Frozen Tundra back in February '86 . Keep up the great video posts and Be Safe from Boston 👍
Great video Joe I'm good friends with Brandon and Steve I had to work or I would have come out to fish with you guys! Keep makin videos I love watching them!
Camping on the lake looks awesome and iv wanted to try it for a long time. This video makes me want to do it even more!! Also just got back from Moosehead and got a almost 7 pound cusk👊 Awesome vid keep it up!
Was just up to the town of shirley and snowmobiling around Greenville,Rockport. First time ever on moosehead coming back this past Saturday afternoon got caught in the snow storm and had to ride the lake back to Greenville where the ferry boat is sucked I felt like I was lost at sea thankfully a guy with us h as a new sled with GPS built in.
Drove 5 hours to Minnesota to buy an Aqua Vu HD7i camera and decided to take my insulated hub and my fishing stuff and a buddy and made an overnight ice camping trip. It was awesome! The guy I bought the camera from put me on some slab crappies! It was sooooo mich fun, especially making steaks on the ice.
Great video very informative ,my first time in a long time plan on doing some ice fishing just bought a pop up shanty and gradually shopping around for gear , Campbellton N.B Canada. Fish on✌🏻
Hey Joe, I live in Maine and do a ton of ice fishing, I am preparing to do my first overnight and your videos have taught me a ton. Thank you for all the knowledge you put out there, love your videos!
Joe holland i may have said this before you should get ahold of otter outdoors and have them build you a custom otter sled. To be able to fit the wood floor laying down with room to spare so you can get it out of the sled with out having to put the floor standing sidways in the sled
@JoeHollandFishing you are welcome. It would be worth checking into to see if they could do something like that. I don't know if their large would fit your floor I don't know how wide your floor pieces are, but maybe that'd be something custom that they'd have to do. But something to look into
Joe, You mentioned you didn't know why you had elastic bands in your kitchen kit. Back in the early 90's a friend and I Ice camped on Eagle Lake in the Allagash for a night we had a 4x6 icehouse for day use and dug in a tent on the south side of Pillsbury island for the night, upon arrival we set up the coleman stove(our only source of heat and cooking) in the ice shack and upon lighting it had flames shooting out of the side around the adapter, broken O-ring. Used an elastic to tightly wrap the O-ring slot, reinstalled and relit was able to use for the rest of the trip. You never know what you need till you need it!
I live in Maine also around the Sebago Lake area I really have an Interest is ice camping .. with my six year old daughter and my the thing that’s on my most is her comfort and enjoyment I’ll sit there and struggle but I don’t want to fail and have it ruin her experience and have her not want to go again
I do alot of overnight trips. I do not do a minimalist trip. I bring a ultra quite generator and a TV a Satalite Dish and My playstation. its awesome to watch movies late into the night or play some games with. I usually fish by myself but there is nothing like camping on the hard water. Totally different camping experience then fishing in the Spring.
Never caught sop many cusk in one night ever over 60 by 1 am but we threw back like 40 due to them being so small the large ones did not go after our traps or jigs nothing over 2-3 pounds
Good video Joe! I winter camp while ice fishing. Another positive, no bugs! 😂 I picked up a dedicated four season tent this year with a stove jack. Using a Nuway 4000 vented propane heater. Although I like wood stoves, you know the drudgery of keeping it going throughout the trip. I’ll take the hit on a couple composite propane bottles. I’ll see ya on the ice sometime for sure, live 4 miles from Moosehead
Hey Joe Coming at you from Southington CT, Your videos and the information you provide are awesome ! I’m shortly pullin the pin on a 35 year career and ice fishing is at the top of the list among many other outdoor activities. After watching your videos , I’m like a kid in Christmas morning. Maine is sure beautiful, use to snow machine back in the day up in Saint Agatha, with my local buds. Seeing your video on the Allagash brought back memories of Escourt station, trapper Kelly and the 3 rivers luncheonette. The 10 hour trip to Northern ME was tough with the kids, so I made Pittsburg NH the go to destination which was closer. Until the COVID hit the burg was my release, this year got scrapped but retirement coming up and hopefully a healthier 2021 can’t wait to try all the info and ideas you’ve put out in your videos. Darn sausage fingers hit send by mistake ....continued -stranger to the cold. I love the snow and cold just don’t like being cold. Can you give any recommendations on ice fishing gear companies or brand names but even more important your wool hat and green and red plaid jackets you wear. They look well made to keep yah warm on the coldest of days. Looking forward to hearing from you. Keep the awesome videos and information coming . I can’t wait to try it all out with my new chapter of life almost here. Tight lines bud 🎣
For sure, the stuff you specifically asked about is actually all LL Bean. Well worth the money for the short and especially the long term, quality gear that never lets me down, I bought some bibs last year made by Eskimo and it really made ice fishing so much more enjoyable by keeping me warm and dry and comfortable. The crotch ripped out just after a year and they are ware teed for a year. Still good though, just feel the breeze when snowmobiling. I recently bought Clam ice fishing bibs that are a little lighter I think they are going to be good after a few days so far.
@@JoeHollandFishing Thanks for the speedy reply on the information I really appreciate it. Looking forward to applying it all and having a blast. Is Northern Maine home? It sure is beautiful up there , gods country for sure. Thanks for going the distance and sharing your love of the sport. You definitely keep your audiences attention, feels like we’re right there. 🎣
Took my ice castle to a lake that was supposed to have 15 in of ice on it and I did the mistake of not drilling a hole first and by the time I was set up and drilled a hole I only had 11 inches of ice in 5 inches of slush around the ice castle within an hour a parking there yeah I moved.
That’s a lot of stuff I need to get haha. I like the solar power charger I have then I can charge up rechargeables. Need to get a bigger one for the fish finder
Enjoy rewatching your videos. Very helpful to see what other guys are doing. Question: Do you fish from your sleep tent anymore? I do. Only problem there are times when overpressure from new snow pushes up water through the holes. Not always. But sucks when it happens.
I live in Iowa I have a small buddy heater and I have recently bought a flex heater I would imagine that's enough for camp fishing just asking thank you
I have a fishing, hunting, trapping, survivalist and Marine background and I still learned few things. Do you icefish in these tents, and if so, where do you put the jigging hole?
Awesome thank you. I can ice fish from it but I haven't been lately because of worry of night floods from slushing out. Some lakes aren't bad. I would have to make a hole through my wood floor which I still might do. Iv'e been setting up on the edge of lakes with ground under me.
Been looking hard at the outbreak 650i or 850i but worried 850i will be too big to be convient or hard to set up alone in the wind prob gonna get the 650i outbreak
Best Tip... 1st trip should be close to home You Are Gonna forget something & Sometimes new things just don't work...or break... Nobody messes with a tent while your gone, they don't know that nobody's in there... Yes ...I know this from experience
Thank you very much hopefully picking one up next weekend watched just about every ice camp vid to prepare myself for an ice camp but only missing a good shelter
Hey Joe would you recommend the outbreak 650i over the outbreak 850i for a portable ice shack we currently have the fatfish 949i but when we bought it we really wanted the outbreak 450i but it would not have arrived soon enough to make the trip we had booked for m oosehead as we had a b&b room all booked for a certain date
I havent been in the 850 but I have been in the 650 Check out my chamberlain series from this year. A bunch of us fit and had room, its a great sized tent.
Fished on moosehead but not saying where due to social media not you at all. But epic cusk night but slit of little racers lol . you rock Joe Steve aka. Chubs from Millinocket I m locally known for the guy who sank his Toyota through the ice in the village on Millinocket lake 35 ft. Of water Toyota went back on the road legally after too unstoppable. 1990 pickup but still runs today sank it in 2006 . was a bad night but all of us escaped unharmed w no hypothermia we 3 of us all walked back to twin pine camps after during the night of course
I'd be curious to know more about the legalities of winter camping on ice, where you can go, etc. I'd love to get into it, I ice fish many places, but I struggle trying to find out where I can camp and be in regulation, etc. I use the OnX Hunt App, maybe that will help? Then there is the Delormes Maps, but I never know what the reg is out on the water. Thanks for your videos, I know they take much effort, they are excellent !
Thank you, I think there are only a rare few places you can’t sleep or camp on the ice. Wasookeag has a couple weird laws about shacks but I don’t know if it has anything to do with camping and the Allagash has some laws too but camping is ok.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I have the same hut. Would you be able to fit two cots into the hut for sleeping? Just curious about your thoughts knowing you would lose lots of space for other amenities. Your point about ice camping to avoid camping is well taken so having a second cot for a guest from time to time would be handy.
Do you have any vents open while running the mr heater? If so how much ventilation? Also, do you sleep with any vents open or all sealed up? Great video
This page is going to take off in the year to come, great content and keep up the great work !
Thank you, greatly appreciated

& Sometimes new things just don't work...or break...
Nobody messes with a tent while your gone, they don't know that nobody's in there...
Yes ...I know this from experience
Thanks
I choose now to no longer go on the ice in vehicles I use my grizzly 4 wheeler or my 125 Suzuki wheeler or my snowmobile
good call
I can't seem to find the 450i. Is it almost like the 450xd. Great vid
The 450 I was the original version of the 450XD.
Thank you very much hopefully picking one up next weekend watched just about every ice camp vid to prepare myself for an ice camp but only missing a good shelter
Can you post the packing list?
Great call I’ll try to share it on my socials.
1990 pickup but still runs today sank it in 2006 . was a bad night but all of us escaped unharmed w no hypothermia we 3 of us all walked back to twin pine camps after during the night of course
wow lucky
Can’t wait to watch
Very cool
Awesome vid Joe! What's the link to your cot? Thanks in advance

No regs in Wisconsin Long as your on the ice..an clean your mess up no trash
Love the videos Joe. Where can I find the info on your cot?
I posted in the info section on one of these camping vids a link to it. Let me see where.
@@JoeHollandFishing all good - I think I found one.
Love the work - thank you
Great Video Joe! Are you still using the wood floor or have you found something better?
Still using wood floors, making more for new tents too.
Hope this video is going to get picked up by the YT-Algorithm.... he is such a nice guy, he deserves it!
Thank you, much appreciated
Have you tried solar chargers
I have not tried them yet. We don’t get a ton of sun in the winter in Maine but on an extended trip it might be worth it
P-51 can opener works.
Absolutely
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I have the same hut. Would you be able to fit two cots into the hut for sleeping? Just curious about your thoughts knowing you would lose lots of space for other amenities. Your point about ice camping to avoid camping is well taken so having a second cot for a guest from time to time would be handy.
Yes it would fit two pretty easily but would most likely have to put the table outside.
@@JoeHollandFishing thanks!
6:05 obviously not an expanded archery hunter haha
Nope never done it. Do they steal?
Do you have any vents open while running the mr heater? If so how much ventilation? Also, do you sleep with any vents open or all sealed up? Great video
always vent open somewhere I have recently switched to woodstove.
I keep watching this video just for Allen Iverson, lmao....but seriously, great video.
Haha, thanks.
Do You conceal and carry on these trips
Yes carry not often conceal
Always bring 2 or 3 days extra food..
If not for you.. could help someone else that had issues and hard times..
Sharing is caring🤣
For sure, I never skimp on the food.
