"For me it is." Is the most low-key thought-provoking comment I have heard in a video in a long time. Made me stop and think about my life, what possibilities still exist for me, and appreciate when it really can't get any better than the current moment.
Joe your videos are awesome remind me when you're with Donnie I was hanging out with my father camping with him doing everything outdoors brings back a lot of memories my father was 91 when he passed away that spring before he passed away him & hike Mount Katahdin to chimney pond we walk 47 miles up in 47 me back down and he said to me boy you look tired I said yeah Dad my ankles are sore please Joe keep these videos going it brings back memories to me I love you my brother hope I can make you one day sir
So great to see Donnie still out there at his age!!!! There's a lot of knowledge sitting there - A national treasure for sure - god bless him and what a great video!!!!! Ready for day 2.
When the wind is in the north, the skillful fisher goes not forth when the wind is in the south, it blows the bait in the fish's mouth when the wind is in the east, it's not fit for man nor beast but when the wind is in the west, that's where it's the very best Great video as usual Joe
I have never met any of you guys but I keep watching your videos and I feel like I've known you guys my whole life.... great people and Donnie I have alot of respect for this elder wjth all the drive and energy and great stories and knowledge this my friend is what I always admired was listening to our elders ❤
Lol, Joe!!!! Love these videos, Donnie is great to watch!! I did have the same thought about how they did things years ago without all the gear we have now. Love the end with your reflection and appreciation for the finer things in life, this is what keeps people tuning into your channel!!! The bit with the secret spices and covering up Donnies netherbits was hilarious!!!! Lol!! Keep 'em coming!!!
SUPER EXCITED! Going camping with you guys is the best thing on RUclips. And of course Donnie would have one of those ovens, we have them for the boy scout troop, we can bake anything in the woods that you can make at home! Joe, your life could not be any better being able to go on adventures with Donnie, thanks so much for sharing them.
Glad you guys had good weather to start off, and set up camp for the most part. And if anything??...you definitely eat good Joe out on the ice. Especially with Donny. Never mind the donuts, but just the food that he brings. The donuts sound like a bonus! 😆
The stove looks awesome! I know you will enjoy having dry wood heat with no dripping on your sleeping bag. ha ha. Glad I could help you connect to get the stove. Enjoy!
Ok Joe you have taught me a lot. My turn to teach you something. Winds out of the west the fishing is the best Winds out of the east the fishing is the least. Winds out of the North fishermen don't go forth. Winds out of the south the hook finds the mouth. Love when Donny is with you! Enjoy and cherish the trips with this fellow.
Donnie has held up very well. He looks very agile, like a young deer. I hope that I can still experience such adventures at that age. Another nice episode Joe. Thanks for that!
I really appreciate anything with Donnie! It is so obvious that he has not lost even a bit of passion for the outdoors and being able to spend anytime with a gentleman such as Donnie is a real priviledge. Even if it is vicariously via video.
Joe, can’t tell you how much I enjoyed the video. You cost me some bucks though…..I’ve been eying those Coleman stoves for awhile, was debating that or a reflector oven but now have the Coleman coming my way! I lost my good buddy, 73 years young this hunting season. Super gent like Donny and game for anything I threw his way. My boys or grandsons share the outdoors when they can, obviously not retired with ample free time like me. Keep ‘em coming!
Joe, you should get some Kolpin Rhino grip flex 1.5’s to mount your shovel to the side of the rack on your snowmobile. Then it’s ready if you needed it for digging out the snowmobile on your way in the bush.
Donnie reminds me of my grandfather! Never got to ice fish with him but spent a lot of time at deer camp!! He had a couple homemade boot Jacks at home and camp! Thanks fellas!👍🏻👍🏻 Will
So great to see the special bond between you and Donnie. How awesome that you get to share his first ice camping experience with him and the wonderful memories you will make. Thanks for taking us along, Joe! ❤
Joe your a lucky man to have someone like Donny to share in these adventures. Absolutely love seeing him out there kicken ass. Great video and I'm looking forward to the next one.
Awesome to see Donnie out there! Joe I’ve got a light planner board release screwed to the bottom of the trap to hold the line for big bait works great.
I was so happy to see this series Donny sure is something special I feel like we would get along great reminds me of a fella down home that I’m close buddy’s with I’m 39 and he’s 75 and we enjoy moose hunting together and just chatting at the dinner table ur also a great guy joe you guys pair well together!! Thanks for sharing this series !!
Joe, another quality episode as usual. Where I grew up in southern Iowa, it was wind out the east the fish bite the least. Wind out of the west, the fish bite the best. Wind from the south blows the bait into their mouth. Wind from the north, don't go forth.
This is going to be an awesome trip ! Believe it or not I have one of those ovens . My Dad had it it may have been my grand dads . Donnie is a heck of a fella , he’s the kind of guy if you just sit and listen to him you could learn more in 15 minutes than a year at college. Can’t wait for the next episode of this trip
What about a tandem sled to haul your stuff. Kinda like a train. Also, I have heard great things about those Diesel Heaters. Dry heat and runs for hours and hours. I see some use an igloo cooler to house them in and keeps it quite.
Yup I haul tandem sometimes. We had two snowmobiles this trip. I have heard a lot of great things about the diesel heaters too. I have one now I just havent gotten the diesel and the battery to run it.
@@JoeHollandFishing let me know what size battery you go with for your overnighters. I also see that solar panels work well for recharging during the day. I just don't know how efficient that is. I have been watching you for years and love your setup. Though I prefer to go a bit lighter myself on the flooring. But that's my preference. But I will tell you, that you inspired me to give it a go on the ice and I took many of your ideas with me and thanks for that. I especially love the landscape lights. I just drill a hole not all the way through, kick in the shavings and wa-la instant night time lighting. Especially for those out there snowmobiling. At about the 36 second mark on my highlights for last year is my setup. ruclips.net/video/LVkKCvLnQ5w/видео.html Certainly not as professionally done as yours, but I wanted to capture the season and share with fellow ice fishing enthusiasts.
You guys make a great team! Donnie does well for 80. 75 was the oldest I could get my dad out ice-fishing. Even then, I had to do all the work. Must be high pressure to explain the biting lull. On such slow days, I would work the traps constantly, and tie newspaper to the line to move the bait on windy days. Is that a Winnerwell Stove? Got one myself. I also have a hot water attachment (fits around the stovepipe), and a folding oven attachment (sets on top of the stove). One small stove does it all. Two windows light up the tent.
Geez same thing happened to the green hornet I boght, first trip I snapped it right in half! Love seeing Donnie on your clips Joe, great content love the footage, definitley looks like a lot of work but you seem to have it pretty well figured out now. I think it is safe to say we all take a lot of notes and great tips from you! Keep the content coming!
You mentioned you had a problem with the pin droping out while towing your sled. I noticed you put your pin in from the top down, you should put it in from the bottom up. The action of your hitch while towing always pumps the pin upwards. If you use a pin with a spring retainer it will jack itself out of the hole. If you put it from the bottom up it will jack up against the head of the pin. Try it you will be surprised.
Another great video. I was in Maine last weekend and caught my first splake. Hoping to make it up one more time before the end of the season. Good luck and keep ‘em coming
That wood stove is cool, but weren’t you nervous about it being so close to the wood floor? The window insert is genius. I’m pretty sure Donnie could market that. What is the boot made of?
This is an awesome video and my new favorite. I fish and camp on the ice a lot and I am very humbled and impressed, being about 20 years younger, I can only hope that I can be like Donny when I grow up.
Great video Joe! Are you still using that wood stove? Any issues with sparks landing on your tent on non- windy days? What type of metal did Donnie use on the stove jack? Did he glue the Velcro to it?
I switched away from it for this upcoming season. I didn't have any problems with sparks at all. The window jack was just tin, no problems. The velcro had a sticky back.
Awesome Joe Donnie looks like he is having a blast! You are one very lucky man to have such a great friend as Donnie. I can see he enjoys your friendship as much as you do his. That wood stove is cool, but weren’t you nervous about it being so close to the wood floor? The window insert is genius. I’m pretty sure Donnie could market that. What is the boot made of?
No the heat rises and the floor doesn't even get warm. It's a silicon boot I have been told the yello/orange one is more heat resistant.
