    Excellent video and the only one I have found on this timer that actually explains clearly how to set it up. The instructions from Defiant give you enough info to get started but not enough to get finished.

    Excellent. Programming was driving me crazy until I watched the video. One very important point is that there are actually TWO PHASES in the set-up. FIRST is setting the calendar. SECOND, as you pointed out is the programming of the lights on/off. Once I selected P1 I was able to control the turn-on at dusk every day and the turn-off at 11:15 p.m. every night.

    Super! You just helped me to reprogram my 15 year old timer that I long lost the instructions to. Thank you! Also if you accidentally program P2 (like I did), you can circle back around to it by hitting "+" button, and then [ENTER], and when it says "SET", hit the "+" button again, and it will prompt "DEL". hit [ENTER] and it will delete that extra program.

    • @cannotbeshaken7889
      @cannotbeshaken7889 Год назад

      What is P2 for?

    • @wbwright79
      @wbwright79 Год назад

      @@cannotbeshaken7889 it's been a year, so you will have to forgive me if not 100% accurate. But P1 is for "Program 1", and P2 is for "Program 2", etc. So you can program several different clock arrangements, and enable each for a different time of year, or different purpose. I think there might be 8 program slots on this unit. Just from memory of course. I have not gone out and verified this just now.

    • @cannotbeshaken7889
      @cannotbeshaken7889 Год назад

      @@wbwright79 I have my front porch lights programed on this perfectly. But its not working for my mailbox light. I'm wondering if this is because my mailbox lights are connected to P2 instead, and I have to program P2 to get them working. ? I doubt it, it seems impossible each could be on a different wire. But I'm desperate.

    • @wbwright79
      @wbwright79 Год назад

      @@cannotbeshaken7889 Ok. Each switch controller, can only be connected to 1 other electric component (light, or multiple lights, ec). In my case, I have one switch for a porch light, but a second switch for a series of Holiday light electric outlets, so I can put Christmas lights up, and have them all come on at once on the whole house. So it is a 1-1 connection. Therefore, the only way you can have one switch running power to both a porch light AND a mailbox light, is to have both lights in series on the same electrical line. And they will BOTH come on at exactly the same time, and go off at exactly the same time, every day. It is hard for me to tell if this is the way you have it hooked up, simply by reading your response above however. But just know that P1, P2, P3, etc are only ways of effecting ALL lights connected to it, all at the same time. P1 could be for Mon, Wed, Friday. P3 could be for Winter only. As examples. If you want your porch light and mailbox lights to work indipendantly (operate on a different schedule) then EACH light will need to be hooked up to its own switch. Know that. But if your current setup has BOTH your porch light, and your mailbox light connected in series together with one switch only, and only 1 light is coming on (instead of both coming on), then you have a cut (a bad connection) in the wire between the mailbox light, and the switch. I can only guess your setup. But I recently dealt with such a bad connection myself, when water had gotten in to an old twist connector of wires, and corroded those wires, and disintegrated the connection. Finding that bad connection, and repairing the cut in the line, fixed my problem. Water and electricity dont work well together. I hope this helps. But it's kind of like working on a car problem, over the phone. Its hard fixing something unless you have it right in front of you to diagnose the problem.

    • @wbwright79
      @wbwright79 Год назад

      @@cannotbeshaken7889 One more thing. This type of switch has a simple On/Off button. The same as any other light switch in your house. Ok. So, if you are toggling that switch to the ON position, and your mailbox light is not coming on as well, then you have a bad connection between the switch and the mailbox light. It is that simple. If your On/Off test is working with your mailbox light however, then you have a programming issue. Your mailbox uses ALL of the programs from your switch (ie, P1, P2, P3, etc). It is not only on one of them, it is on all of them. In this case however, I am assuming that your porch lights are not hooked up to the same switch. Of course. As explained in the first response, if all of your lights (porch and mailbox) are hooked up to the same one switch, then you have a connection problem with your mailbox light.

    I despise products like this. After reading the numerous comments about how much time it took to set this up, I have to wonder why a simple default option is not available - Switch on at dusk , switch off at dawn. Out of the 10 programs available, most users use one or two. More thought needs to be expended on how to make products like this user friendly.

    • @starmanxvi

      I have three different models of Intermatic timers and one of these. Guess which one I can't reprogram without instructions. The Intermatic digital timers use batteries, so they don't reset from power outages. Surges can put them into "no op" mode, but I've never had to do more than turn them on and off to get them working again.
