I live near poor district, and to be honest there are a lot of these, I always see homeless people sleeping under trees, bushes, trash and etc. And nearby there is building where toilet is public only and you have to wait til your neighbors shait and then brush your teeth, or take a shower!(thank God I don't live in those and my friend is the one who tell me that, he is going to Astana btw) So, I was going to Market to get some cat food and milkshakes, but there was football court where for some reason very aggressive kids play. So I was going to home and drinking the milkshake, these kids saw and rushed towards me, they surrounded me and tried to rob me, fortunately there were adults to stop them, but then I was going in different direction where there is no aggressive people that will try to rob you or beat you up. I'm sorry if I said something unclear or weird, I'm not good at English but being smart here meaning you are nerd that has no friends. I want to live in USA and be safe

It's fun in Astana......in summer. I met many people from Australia there, but not everyone "survived" the winter.....after all, minus 40 is a common occurrence. When the wind is added, it becomes significantly "more fun"......If you need recommendations, then visit the nearest match of the local hockey team "Barys". This is a real spectacle of professional international sports in Astana. And of course the "Nomad Games".

Well I a peson who lives in Astana for a majority of my life, I can say that's it's a very safe place. Even the old part of a sity or poor areas, is still very safe at day or night, and incidents a rare. Most problems are caused by people who have drunk too much, usually.

Gives us a more real look at these places, it’s as if we are there traveling with you, learning things for the first time along side you - rather than a polished version. (But don’t worry I like the polished ones too and also love your other channel!) I really like how you show the interactions with the locals, especially when you’re learning the language. And I also appreciate the honesty when things aren’t always easy, or when you mentioned in China when people just walk right into you. I love that perspective bc it’s so real and it does make you wonder what is “normal” for some cultures, which may annoy us - but that’s the whole point of travelling right? To see how people are the same and different. Love it and keep it up.

Here is an Australian connection for you. A late aunty of my brother in law had worked for Telecom Australia (now Telstra) for many years. When she retired she was contracted as a training consultant by Telecom and sent to Kazakhstan with other Australian Telecom workers in the early 1990s. Their government had bought Telecom’s phone system. She trained the workers as phone operators. She often spoke about her time there. Before she left she and her team cooked a roast lamb dinner for all the workers, translators and government officials connected with the project. They cooked for 50 plus people and were able to use a commercial kitchen that the government made available for them to use. She said that they bought everything at the local markets and stall holders were overwhelmed as no one had ever bought that quantity of food in one shop before.
I don’t know either of you but the dude is so knowledgeable I respect that a lot. He knows stuff that I would never expect a foreigner to know. Great video!

If you will stay in Astana more 2 weeks I wood like to recomend you to visit Khan Shatyr and Pyramide. Most interesting creatures of Norman Foster. Not so far from expo and your flat locating Kings cross pub (a little bit of England in heart of Central Asia) and Meatpoint (Turkish cuisine). And you can arrange horseback rides around the city.
The style of the building you mention in your video might originated from Japan or Hong Kong, because the land is so pricy and the lower two levels are usually for business or commercial use. It became popular in China since the 90s, and then spread to many asia contries, expecially those with higher population. To save the land, the apartment building will usually start at the third level, and the lower two level can be used as shops, office, coffee shop or dinning place, groceries store, hair babor/dresser, school, hospital, etc. This make this apartment area much easier to become a self servicing living society without construction seperate buildings.
Kazakhstan is NOT high on population, in fact it's one of the least densely populated countries in the world. Land in Astana especially is not pricey at all, there's lots of room to spare. The first floor was of a different color because the architect decided that way, there's literally nothing special about it. Another thing, Kazakhstan has nothing to do with China. The cultures couldn't be any more different, the languages are not related at all. Kazakhstan and China are geographically separated with a mountain strip. The only cultural exchange used to happen via the silk way. The first time the Chinese found a way to Kazakhstan was 300 years B.C. and the only exchange was done via small caravans (around 14th to 17th century) each of which had only a few people. The road from Mainland China to Kazakh settlements is close to 4 thousand kilometers long and goes around the mountain strips. Update: some people below are blatantly wrong. Their only argument is that Kazakhstan and China share a border. China does have economical effect on Kazakhstan, but not cultural, nor architectural. I'm saying as a person who has been living in Kazakhstan for 20 years already

Astana is a major hub of the Belt and Road Initiative, including financial services and legal services connected to BRI projects. The trade volumn between Kazakhstan and China has been increasing over two digit percentage every year. Do you know how many Chinese real estate companies and constructional companies operating in Astana? And they are not in anywhere in Kazakhstan, they are in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, the second largest city and one of the most populated cities in Kazakhstan.

Culturally we are different and we don’t and don’t want to have anything in common with Chinese culture. Chinese in Russia and Kazakhstan are known for causing problems for both counties. And if you ask locals of what they think about Chinese they won’t give you positive feedback
Thats interesting, I didnt know it came from China. But this trend has come to Kazakhstan only recently. I am a Kazakhstani who lived in Astana from 2011 to 2019 and I can tell that its mainly newly built apartment blocks that have this underground stuff. Perhaps the local construction companies bought construction plans from China...? But Kazakhstan does not have a large population anyway.. Personally I don't like these basement shopping places because most of the time they look scruffy and give strong the 90s or early 2000s vibes..

The style of the building you mention in your video might originated from Japan or Hong Kong, because the land is so pricy and the lower two levels are usually for business or commercial use. It became popular in China since the 90s, and then spread to many asia contries, expecially those with higher population. To save the land, the apartment building will usually start at the third level, and the lower two level can be used as shops, office, coffee shop or dinning place, groceries store, hair babor/dresser, school, hospital, etc. This make this apartment area much easier to become a self servicing living society without construction seperate buildings.
Stop spreading false information. This is far from truth. If you don’t know, just don’t say anything.
Kazakhstan is NOT high on population, in fact it's one of the least densely populated countries in the world.
Land in Astana especially is not pricey at all, there's lots of room to spare. The first floor was of a different color because the architect decided that way, there's literally nothing special about it.
Another thing, Kazakhstan has nothing to do with China. The cultures couldn't be any more different, the languages are not related at all. Kazakhstan and China are geographically separated with a mountain strip. The only cultural exchange used to happen via the silk way. The first time the Chinese found a way to Kazakhstan was 300 years B.C. and the only exchange was done via small caravans (around 14th to 17th century) each of which had only a few people. The road from Mainland China to Kazakh settlements is close to 4 thousand kilometers long and goes around the mountain strips.
Update: some people below are blatantly wrong. Their only argument is that Kazakhstan and China share a border. China does have economical effect on Kazakhstan, but not cultural, nor architectural.

@@theseangle You better do some research before you coment anything. Kazakhstan has nothing to do with China? Astana is a major hub of the Belt and Road Initiative, including financial services and legal services connected to BRI projects. The trade volumn between Kazakhstan and China has been increasing over two digit percentage every year. Do you know how many Chinese real estate companies and constructional companies operating in Astana? And they are not in anywhere in Kazakhstan, they are in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, the second largest city and one of the most populated cities in Kazakhstan.
@@danielzchang Kazakhs and Chinese are sharing a border and have some financial ties that’s it. Culturally we are different and we don’t and don’t want to have anything in common with Chinese culture. Chinese in Russia and Kazakhstan are known for causing problems for both counties. And if you ask locals of what they think about Chinese they won’t give you positive feedback
Thats interesting, I didnt know it came from China.
But this trend has come to Kazakhstan only recently. I am a Kazakhstani who lived in Astana from 2011 to 2019 and I can tell that its mainly newly built apartment blocks that have this underground stuff. Perhaps the local construction companies bought construction plans from China...? But Kazakhstan does not have a large population anyway..
Personally I don't like these basement shopping places because most of the time they look scruffy and give strong the 90s or early 2000s vibes..
One week for Almaty - it isn't enough. There are much more amazing places and things than in Astana.
