Happy Sunday! I love a well worn but loved pair of loafers. I’m on my 2nd soles on my Gucci loafers, over the past 35 years. I still wear them on a fairly regular basis. The Tailor should be our best friend, I have bought things that were mediocre quality, had the tailor alter them or change buttons etc and end up wearing them for 20+ years. The smallest changes can make the biggest difference, and it’s not expensive. I think people assume a tailor would cost a lot. The one thing I’ve given up is cashmere. I don’t want the fuss. I’ll stick with wool.

Yes yes yes totally agree with you!! And indeed - the cobbler and the tailor should be our best friends because making stuff fit and then prolonging the lifespan of our wardrobe items truly is the key to building a forever wardrobe! Nice - I wish I could give up cashmere because it indeed is quite fussy to take care of, but I simply cannot give up the softness and warmth of cashmere hahaha..! 😂

Hi Amanda. I learned about leather soles the hard way. Years ago I had a pair of Cole Haan loafers.. I wore them about 10 times and the soles got a tiny bit smooth,,,,,,, Smooth enough to go flying and landed on my arse.... Off to the cobbler and had rubber soles put on....I always have rubber soles put on every pair of leather soles...

Omg! Hope you didn’t get hurt in that incident!! And that’s a good point - adding a rubber sole is not only to protect the shoes but also to make the shoes less slippery and more secure on the ground 😇

leather needs to breath, I have the old fashion closets where my shoes and bags are not display to collect dust. I do keep the area dry using Damp Rid and cedar wood oil. I also use proper leather and exotic conditioners once a year. Do not store them especially in boxes.
