      Big Dan is considerably more articulate and didn't say "like" even once during this clip lol.
      I would be surprised if Danaher was revealed to be an actual cult leader because Giancarlo talks a lot like this, too. 🤣

    My logic is if you can maul white belts and hang with blue belts, you’re a blue belt, if you can maul blue belts and hang with purple belts, you’re a purple belt, if you maul purple belts and hang with brown belts you’re a brown belt, etc. when it’s older guys or hobbyists I give the exception but it never made sense to me for guys who compete and beat black belts to be anything less than a black belt. Sandbagging is really big in no Gi especially with guys who train at the super camps, it’s just a really odd part of the sport.

    Interesting video and conversation; I'm 4 years into my jiu-jitsu journey and still a white belt at 43. I can only train 2 days a week because of my work schedule and graduate school. However, I'm usually rolling against guys half my age who are training 5-6 days a week, twice a day, so I'm usually getting waxed on the mats when I come to the dojo. But I'm still learning something every time I roll!😂😅

    When I took taekwondo, the belts were about marked improvements. There were higher level black belts that in a full fight or spar would be destroyed by the lower level ones for reason you mentioned. A young guy with 70%+ of the knowledge the older guy has but with a large physical advantage is going to win. But the upper ranks still knew way more, had far more practice, and could execute forms more precisely

    I like what sailor Roberto said. The belts are about what you need to focus on. White is learning to survive. Blue escape. Purple sweep. Brown control position. Black submit

    • @mikegold3130
      @mikegold3130 4 месяца назад +1

      I get that logic when explaining the basics, but dudes now days have high level submission ability at blue belt so to put it in there head that survival is all they should focus on doesn’t work anymore.

    There are also two different types of Black Belts, the elite and the regular. Elite Black Belts operates on a different level and are very high level. On the other hand we should accept the fact that not every Jiu-Jitsu practitioners are the same in terms of level of skills, watering down the JJ is not a good idea but setting up the standard too high for everyone is also a problem, then everyone that didn't reach a world class level of grappling skills or at least competed and never won in the pan and national level championships should be stripped of their black belts.

    You're not actually making an accurate assessment of how the belt system is viewed in BJJ. The belt system is widely viewed as a marker of skillsets learned, skillets demonstrared, knowledge gained & demonstrated, growth in efficiency & ability, and the ability to teach. It's viewed as "all else being equal", the black belt SHOULD be beating browns, etc.

    • @mikegold3130
      @mikegold3130 4 месяца назад +2

      Exactly. It’s so odd to me that guys have black belts yet get mauled by blue or purple belts. Either rank guys accurately or don’t rank them at all.

    This is dumb. Either change the categories for a tournament or change the meaning of belts. It should be a relatively objective standard of how capable you are.
    55 years old and 160lbs been doing it for 5 years? Yeah you're probably never making it to black belt.
    25 year old savant been rolling for 10-15 years that's winning against black belts? Probably shouldn't still be a white or blue belt.

    It's all screw3d up now cause there are too many "black belts" that got it cause they trained the amount of time theie supposed too, not cause they showed aptitude pr knowledge of grappling

  • @jarom1144
    @jarom1144 4 месяца назад +2

    The belts are definitely there to signify time and experience. Notice how the belts get darker and darker. Thats because tradittionally your white belt would get dirtier and dirtier and eventually really brown/black the longer you trained.

    Belts are supposed to indicate a particular level of knowledge and skills. Belts are based on a physical and mental standard, and not on "where you feel you are on journey". That's shit.

      Skills don’t lie in Jiu Jitsu. It doesn’t matter about the cloth that’s holding your pants up and jacket tucked. I would rather be a lifetime white belt than ever be given a belt I didn’t not earn through perseverance and dedication.
