Usually it's the other way around the fanatics don't want to do anything with purifiers. Honestly it is in the purifiers best interest to make at least one friend who can trade with the other aliens to then turn those supplies to the purifiers to go and purge whoever is bothering the fanatics the most. It works to both of their interests to work together.

like the other guy said, purifiers don't hate empires of the same species. With a bit of effort, you can even make a federation by releasing a sector as a vassal, releasing the vassal, and forming a federation. Later you make another vassal by releasing a sector, kick out the first guy you made a federation with, and take them vassal again, ending up with a federation where you're the only independent member, meaning you're always the president.
