P&T do this bit to get you to watch the awards because viewers don't have the patience to watch 6 minutes, and then they're edited out because we don't have the patience...
actually, since this was uploaded in 07, it's entirely possible the whole thing would've been too long to be uploaded, since there was a 10-minute-or-so cap back then
Isn't it absolutely ironic how the whole point P&T were trying to make here was that the guys nominated to that category were under-apreciated and that people should take the time to get to know their work more, and then in this clip the whole section in which their work is exposed and Penn literally says "please, do watch this and pay attention" got cut.
Their sense of humor is so insane. I love it! They make you wonder (as the show goes on) how they are going to do the trick after taking away all of the props lol and then they just don't XD
Those of you saying how crazy Penn's hair is here should see how it looked in their mid-80's SNL appearances- short and slicked back on the sides with a tuft of poofy curls hanging down in front and a little mullet pony tail in the back..
Lemme explain this for the people who know nothing of them. These 2 were exposing magic with this video. showing just where someone can hide ding an act. not trying to do actual "magic"
MythsQueue It's a VHS recording of a then twenty year old show, that was transferred to digital and uploaded in an Era where digital video was still mostly shitty on the consumer level. So it's a hell of an accomplishment.
Amazing that Tellers looks almost the same today as he did in 1988, and how Penn has gone through so many different versions of himself. Still the best magic team.
For those who still don't know how they've done it it's rather simple, spend 20 years practicing martial arts with the Shaolin and mediation at Tibet and you'll be able to escape from the falling machine right at the last second!
It has more to do with making the audience actually believe that they are in danger. I don't think anyone here thought that Teller was in actual danger.
Ryder Draconis nah, it's editing. When the machine drops you see teller lying down on a mattress, prop himself up and run out. In the replay he comes FROM the box.
I don't think they'd do something as lame as editing... for something that has a live audience even. It's a cardboard box, it's probably a combination of a very light prop Maytag (enough to crush the cardboard convincingly but not crush a man to death, just in case) and an unseen stage hand that was actually holding the cable to sync the drop with Teller leaving the box properly (no way they'd leave it to anyone to pull the rope).
It's ironic they edited out the parts about the winners. I would love to see them, if for nothing else, at least for the sake of joke of this whole act
In reality, the audience was probably watching to see if teller would sneak out during the video. So because of Penn and Teller, the audience didn’t give the unsung heroes their shine
hehehe, damn , I was like yeah, they got a trap door and those stairs are definatly hol......ok no stairs. HA theres definatly a mirror under there and the glosy chrome thing is stopping us from se.....ok no more mirror, why tf is he gon get out? oh wow, that was epic
Teller does not age.
+HardcorePeanut Indeed.
He was just born at the age of 50 and has never changed.
+Andrew Loyal 50 I thought he was 40
Literal magic
Look up the Bravo special on Penn & Teller. It has video of them performing when they were REALLY young.
P&T do this bit to get you to watch the awards because viewers don't have the patience to watch 6 minutes, and then they're edited out because we don't have the patience...
Eh. At this point it's not really fair. Most people watching weren't even born and have no context for most of the films.
@@promontorium Well, two weeks ago I had no context for Penn and Teller either. I was probably missing something...
@@35571113 Maybe you can spend 2 more weeks finding and watching all those films and people that was starred in it then 😂
@@blazeburner4039 Fair point.

"This isn't a magic trick; we're just gonna kill 'im" -Penn Jillette(1988)
teller was 40 during this event, its crazy how old these guys are now.
What? It's hard to believe
Penn was 33, looks like 18..
True, he was 33.
🤯
He's like 70 now and he moves like he's 40 lmao
Isn't it absolutely ironic how the whole point P&T were trying to make here was that the guys nominated to that category were under-apreciated and that people should take the time to get to know their work more, and then in this clip the whole section in which their work is exposed and Penn literally says "please, do watch this and pay attention" got cut.
I was thinking the same thing.
Six minutes isn't very long, it could've stayed in the video :(
Their sense of humor is so insane. I love it! They make you wonder (as the show goes on) how they are going to do the trick after taking away all of the props lol and then they just don't XD
Actually they did crush Teller. That's why you see a lot of comments claiming Teller has not aged. It's not him.
Teller was 40 years old when this was recorded
Those of you saying how crazy Penn's hair is here should see how it looked in their mid-80's SNL appearances- short and slicked back on the sides with a tuft of poofy curls hanging down in front and a little mullet pony tail in the back..

Holy fuck! Teller would have been 40 here...he looks about 12! Why so adorable, Mr Teller?
Teller hasn't aged at all
Penn was right. We _didn't_ have the patience to sit through six minutes. That's why they were cut out of this video
That mofo can move.
Course the motivation was pretty strong.
And 10 years later ......he still rocks
So was the rope
When you realiza the video is from 1988 is awesome, but when you realize the video is from 2007 is amazing
Angel Rodriguez it was from 1988, just uploaded in 2007.
MythsQueue It's a VHS recording of a then twenty year old show, that was transferred to digital and uploaded in an Era where digital video was still mostly shitty on the consumer level. So it's a hell of an accomplishment.
In 8 years, the posting will be as old as the actual Emmy appearance is for the posting.
ricarleite 7 years
6 years and counting... xD
If you look closely at 05:30 you'll see how the trick is done.
Wow thank you I would of never seen that.
Aw, you ruined the trick for me
What happens??
@@thegrallow2390look at the right side of the screen
Teller moves like lightning. a flash and he's out the door.
wow~ teller can do jackie chan moves~
Penn from the 80s, penn from the 2000s, and penn today look like three different people
woah, this is a strange version of Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond.
heck yeah
Amazing that Tellers looks almost the same today as he did in 1988, and how Penn has gone through so many different versions of himself. Still the best magic team.
Teller almost hasn't changed in 24 years!
I remember watching this when I was nine. This was the first time I ever saw Penn & Teller. I've been a fan of theirs for years.
For those who still don't know how they've done it it's rather simple, spend 20 years practicing martial arts with the Shaolin and mediation at Tibet and you'll be able to escape from the falling machine right at the last second!
I USED to hate Penn's pony tail and wish he'd just get a haircut. Not anymore.
This comment didn't age well haha aqwebs.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Penn-Jillette-net-worth.jpg he's had short hair again for several years
@@PsRohrbaugh Yes, and I think he looks the best ever today
Teller literally doesn't age. Ya boy's a vampire
I love these guys! Then, now, they don’t change! They just get better!
used to love these guys back in the 80s, I remember them being on HBO a few times back then
I was expecting a killer magic trick, being that the hidden compartment stairs and the mirror were removed.
“That wasn’t so hard, giving those people a little bit of the glory they deserve, huh?”
Totally cuts out the winners.
Perm and Teller
Penn looks so much better now. And teller looks like a kid here.
Teller never changed since then
I think the word you were looking for is "underrated"
I thought one of their major philosophies was never to do anything dangerous, I don’t know man this doesn’t look too safe not gonna lie
It has more to do with making the audience actually believe that they are in danger. I don't think anyone here thought that Teller was in actual danger.
@@jameslutz2190 Well I guess their trick worked on me lol
Then they fooled you.
Penn and Teller say that doing magic that is dangerous is immoral and they would never do it. This one looks plenty dangerous to me.
Ryder Draconis nah, it's editing. When the machine drops you see teller lying down on a mattress, prop himself up and run out. In the replay he comes FROM the box.

C.B. as in Cecil B DeMille ("I'm ready for my closeup Mr DeMille")
wow, thanks for explaining that!
I got wooshed
It's ironic they edited out the parts about the winners.
I would love to see them, if for nothing else, at least for the sake of joke of this whole act
'The Washing Machine of Damocles'
When teller doesnt get old.
I like how they are still surreptitiously giving away tricks even while pretending not to.
I think this is the oldest thing I’ve ever seen on RUclips...posted in 2007
That hair!
After watching this 5 times i still can't figure out how they did it, crazy
But this video cut off the list on Nominees…
Damn, Penn sounds different.
Kris O'Connor so does teller
Teller acrobatic skills were really
@bffkitty Agreed, such as his shadow trick which is considered by many to be one of the best poetic tricks ever conceived.
That was still surprisingly close. 😀
penn is so different but teller looks the same xD
So CUTE!! brilliant presentation
Yeah, totally didn't catch that in the slow motion replay focused on stage right.
penn looks like josh from drake and josh.
@spagerbot Teller started leaping before the rope was cut. I'm sure the cue for the machine to fall was Teller's clean escape.
well of course
I am pretty sure he says "PG".
i think even if it fell on teller it would only bruise him, because it couldn't even really crush that box flat
Penn went to Bill Malone’s stylist, I see. If you know magic, you know the reference.
Well I was thinking Penn's last name was spelled with a G but it's not. So it still doesn't make sense. Dang it!
Penn’s voice got higher haha
Watching in 2015
Kinda ironic that you skipped the rewards
Teller still looks the same. Wow!
HOLY SHIT!!! Penn's hair is killing me.
Washing Machine of Damocles lol
Imagine this goes wrong
What is the song they play during the intro??? I'm gonna lose sleep over it until I find out...
It's the "Hawaii Five-O" theme song.
What was the last thing Penn said in this video? I can't understand what it was he said.
So, 1988 were the PEEK emmys
@MrDN23 I'd have to disagree. Teller does some solo acts, and they are stunning.
TELLER IS COOLER
i say this in all caps because it's the truth
He would disagree with you.
I think he said ''Love you''
Back when penn has a full set of hair
In reality, the audience was probably watching to see if teller would sneak out during the video. So because of Penn and Teller, the audience didn’t give the unsung heroes their shine
teller looks almost the same today
No one is saying „No”!!!
I'd like to see you try that, or any of the tricks they do.
How many times has Penn tried to kill Teller? Figuratively speaking of course.
And Teller succeeded in killing Penn in 1989.
I think Teller and Canasta are Derren Brown's favorites.
Penn's voice is same till now
Teller never age?
i still want to see who won awards... :)
GE Smith is the band leader!
Snake?Snake?Snaaaaaaaaaake!!!
Looks like Peter griffin
in 1988 I was 1 year and they were old already... ehh...
Isn't that funny how the editing of this clips ruins and defeats the purpose of what pen is actually talking about?
Was he? Not particularly.
5:19 teller runs off the stage to the right
@WhoopassBill seriously? gosh, he didnt look past 25, jesus that guy just doesnt age :3
hehehe, damn , I was like yeah, they got a trap door and those stairs are definatly hol......ok no stairs. HA theres definatly a mirror under there and the glosy chrome thing is stopping us from se.....ok no more mirror, why tf is he gon get out? oh wow, that was epic
ICONIC
penn looks like hes young
but teller hasnt aged a day tho
weirdo_O
lol penn has changed so much but teller still looks the same =P
5:52 whats this song called?
Hawaii five oh theme
teller skips out? how sweet
Who are those guys? I haven't seen any of them in any movie.
