There is contact with the neck area, so the red card seems justified. The problem is: would this red card be raised if it was an England player? Not so sure.
it was contact to the chest that slips up to the neck which is a yellow card with further incident leading to the red. yes I have watched it multiple times and if I seen a player that I have managed sent off I would be asking questions too
I was infuriated by the obsession with the issue of the tackler making contact with he head during the last ( mens) World Cup, and was ranting that the same had to then apply to the ball carrier , so I applaud this but it does open up a can of worms in how ball carriers can break tackles!!!! It threatens the basic fabric of the game if taken to its logical conclusion ...
You're so averse to crying that you won't watch a game where someone cries when they're sent off? Do you stop watching the men's game when they cry at being knocked out of tournaments and such or is that acceptable to you?
I agree you cant lead with the forearm or the elbow, but fair crack of the whip I think that is a yellow at worst. I don't think that warranted a red at all. Keep trucking Megan, you'll be right!
I am sorry. But all you guys are talking about this as if it is some big huge premeditated egregious act of violence. Honestly. When I first saw it I had no clue this is what someone was going to be ejected for. I watched the whole live action portion and was like what. Where was it? What did I miss. It wasn't until the slowed down version that I saw what the video was about. I get why its a red but I think this is dumb... What is she supposed to do with her arm? If you watch from 0:00 at .25 you will see pretty much up to a step before coming into contact with the defending player she was situating the ball and didn't have a whole lot of time to think about. Oh yeah there is a new rule that says I can't do this thing, a fairly normal human response to someone hindering your way. Like I said. I get why it is a red card. Players need to be protected. But a lot of you are crying about it as if she was trying to murder the girl. I mean one of you even says she did an extra ramming with her fore arm after she hit the ground. For one. I have played American football for 6 years and have been on the receiving end of a fair bit of premeditated unsporting hits, that weren't technically illegal. This hit honestly looked tame compared to what I have personally experienced and seen. even watching men's rugby now for some time this seems tame. I get why its a red card and agree that due to the rules she should have been red carded. But you guys are crazy. Either you haven't played any contact sports and don't know how hard it is to remember every little rule, especially new ones, when you have someone running up to you hoping to hit you in a way that you lose the ball, or.... nope that's about the only thing I can think of. You don't actually have any clue. Red card worthy. Yes. As bad as you guys are freaking it out to be...... NOT BY A LONG SHOT!!!!!!
Poor Decisions on the referee it was a yellow card she was not on the elbow it was the forearm and there was no intent there was Foul Play but it was not intentional
its called a wrap tackle - where you wrap u the ball and tackle so they cant offload. if all the tackling technique you have been exposed to is "cheek to cheek" it would suggest you may have played under 8's..... once
Yeah, I know its the law, and this was the right call for the law as it stands, but the law is an ass. What is happening to rugby? Also, the tackler needs to learn how to tackle. Whoever is coaching her to tackle that way needs to be fired - standing up with a backwards lean, turning your face away and shutting your eyes is a crap way to tackle. If rugby wants to go this way, then just go the whole hog and lower the tackle height to waist high or lower.
Rugby now as soft as football...all these comments after watching slow mo...in real time what else could she have done? All in a split second..just like a penalty in football when ball blasted at defenders hand at point blank range. Think I'll watch rugby league in future
Why did the referee let the TMO make the decision and then say that she had no alternative but to issue a red card ? There was no venom in the incident and it was a yellow for me.
Poor technique from the defender there, and her lower height hasn’t helped. Which then leads to the arm to the neck etc. Defender needs to come in much lower for the tackle.
Johannes Tirol no it’s not. Wrapped her arms around it was a bear hug the tackler didn’t know she’d get an elbow to the neck. Perfect tackle and illegal leading with the elbow
Yes, it's so snowflakey to NOT want to see players injured for life. WTF? Right? Remove the refs, give them all baseball clubs, and have at it!! YEAH! DEATH DEATH DEATH! You fucking idiot.
Yes, according to the laws of the game it is a red card, but there needs to be some responsibility put on the tackler as well to keep themselves out of harm's way. It's a bad tackle technique and even if she didn't lead with the forearm there is a good chance for head to head/ head to shoulder contact if you choose to tackle like that. I'd argue that the ball carriers arm prevented a much more dangerous head on head collision.
I agreed with what you are saying. The tackler didn't lower herself and got elbow hit to her neck area. Faf De Klerk did the same tackle to Danny Cipriani in Premiership. Faf wasn't penalized. I am aware that rule applythe same to both sex.

Gutted for the girl, I can see where the ref is coming from, no complaint off the white's over the contact, close contact with no hand off, couple of inches higher and its a broken Jaw, nobody would have argued with a yellow, but safety is paramount
Either way it's the law in rugby
If you get a red card then cry about it maybe rugby isnt for you..
Yellow sufficient but is dangerous
The standard looks to be similar to women's football and tennis, absolutely pathetic.
There is contact with the neck area, so the red card seems justified.
The problem is: would this red card be raised if it was an England player? Not so sure.
Just looking at the vid again, there are several girls on that pitch who would be medically described as morbidly obese. Tell me in wrong.
it was contact to the chest that slips up to the neck which is a yellow card with further incident leading to the red. yes I have watched it multiple times and if I seen a player that I have managed sent off I would be asking questions too
100% correct.
Definitely a red card, but terrible tackling skill going that high.
They shouldn’t use female commentators until they fully understand the rules.
A lot of the men are just as bad.
Rugby has gone soooooooo soft honestly, it is not far now from football, it’s actually embarrassing, it’s unwatchable now
I was infuriated by the obsession with the issue of the tackler making contact with he head during the last ( mens) World Cup, and was ranting that the same had to then apply to the ball carrier , so I applaud this but it does open up a can of worms in how ball carriers can break tackles!!!! It threatens the basic fabric of the game if taken to its logical conclusion ...
Crying because she received a red card. Why I don't watch women's rugby.
You're so averse to crying that you won't watch a game where someone cries when they're sent off? Do you stop watching the men's game when they cry at being knocked out of tournaments and such or is that acceptable to you?
That was the first 3 minutes of woman’s rugby I’ve ever seen and disappointingly also the first time I’ve ever seen someone cry on a rugby field.
I agree you cant lead with the forearm or the elbow, but fair crack of the whip I think that is a yellow at worst. I don't think that warranted a red at all. Keep trucking Megan, you'll be right!
She was suspended for 3 weeks for this btw
@@raedeon Ha HA
Next they will ban the shoulder.
Poor tackling form by white, wouldn‘t have happened if she tackled properly
Poor Decisions on the referee it was a yellow card she was not on the elbow it was the forearm and there was no intent there was Foul Play but it was not intentional
Fabian Streit not a valid point.
Luke Law nope it was worth the red.
its called a wrap tackle - where you wrap u the ball and tackle so they cant offload. if all the tackling technique you have been exposed to is "cheek to cheek" it would suggest you may have played under 8's..... once
marty vreede We know what it was from the tackler , the point is this forearm across the throat by the ball carrier! You agree?
ref's cute
Yeah, I know its the law, and this was the right call for the law as it stands, but the law is an ass. What is happening to rugby?
Also, the tackler needs to learn how to tackle. Whoever is coaching her to tackle that way needs to be fired - standing up with a backwards lean, turning your face away and shutting your eyes is a crap way to tackle.
If rugby wants to go this way, then just go the whole hog and lower the tackle height to waist high or lower.
2:34 poor girl 😟. At least the commentators had some sympathy for her. Even for women rugby is psysical sport.
Rugby now as soft as football...all these comments after watching slow mo...in real time what else could she have done? All in a split second..just like a penalty in football when ball blasted at defenders hand at point blank range. Think I'll watch rugby league in future
Bad call, should be penalty, yellow at best
Read ... the ... fucking ... rules. Automatic red if neck/head contact. Explain how that is open to "interpretation". Jesus fuck.
How ridiculous.
It's fucking rugby
Rugby is dead
Gee - imagine if one of the boys got a red and cried as he got marched for shoving his arm in the other players neck?
This is why nobody watches rugby anymore. Its turning into fuckin' football.
Why did the referee let the TMO make the decision and then say that she had no alternative but to issue a red card ? There was no venom in the incident and it was a yellow for me.
That’s the softest red card in history of the game.
Embarrassing
Are we thinking red card. Make the decision ffs
Harsh call yes it was a high arm but if the English player had tackled properly it wouldn't have happened
Poor technique from the defender there, and her lower height hasn’t helped. Which then leads to the arm to the neck etc. Defender needs to come in much lower for the tackle.
typical yank
Twat
A red card isn't enough, the entire team should be forced to take their shirts off for the rest of the match.....imagine the scrum down!
Very poor tackle... way to high... put herself in a dangerous situation!
Johannes Tirol no it’s not. Wrapped her arms around it was a bear hug the tackler didn’t know she’d get an elbow to the neck. Perfect tackle and illegal leading with the elbow
Snowflake rugby.
northern hemisphere rugby if u tackle chest and slide up its a red ...soon u will get sent off for fending someone
England blow a clean brake down the line due to an attacker being in front of the player with the ball. That is the real crime here!
U can hand off wherever, why not this?
Not from the forearm into the face or neck.
Hint is in the name “HAND off”
Get sent off and cry's about it, literally 😂😂
yes. Because unlike the people freaking out about it who claim to know what she was thinking, I doubt she was doing it maliciously. So she was upset that this lapse of judgement got her kicked off the field playing a game she loves trying to help out her team.
thats bullshit a red for that is a bad call
Tackle high youll get injured. Dont tackle high
colcot50 make sure to put your head the right way and not to take a knee to the head
Totally agree. Shit tackling technique.
Bollox! never a red! soft rugby A Ref that wants more TV air time :(
Stone..Shut up you bell end... According to the laws of the game its a direct red.. You wanted more bell end time with that dumb comment!
You don't penalise the runner, you penalise the tackler. This shouldn't be a red. Yellow perhaps but never a red.
clearly u do !
What?
First sentence says "You don't penalise the runner..."
Then you say it could be worth a yellow.
You penalise anyone breaking the laws of the game. It's too dangerous not to do so.
