The score sent to Spain was the *orchestral original* of 1786, not this functional *string quartet arrangement* made by Haydn for his Viennese publisher the following year (1787). The quartet arrangement in my opinion is Haydn’s single most over-rated and over-played work. There are in fact two more versions: a *piano arrangement* (1787) not by Haydn but authorised by him; a magnificent *choral version* done by Haydn in 1796. Four versions in total then of which two are unqualified masterpieces (the orchestral original, and the choral version) and two - to put it politely - that are not.
Blessed are the historically informed.

Amazing musicianship and perfection! Truly a great string quartet
