Wow putting that white paint over the top truly changed the picture! Then when you started to redecorate, it just got more beautiful!! I really like it! I've never seen anything like this!! Thank you for sharing!! ❤❤🤗🤗🦋🦋🌻🌻
Thank you so much Kari, I really really enjoyed watching you create this amazing and awesome page. I really really love ❤️ all the colours you’ve used, and the patterns are stunning too.... and covering it up I thought was a shame, but when it was complete I really really loved 🥰 it too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Thanks Mags, yes I was a bit scared when I covered up that background, it could so easily have gone horribly wrong, luckily it turned out better than I expected. Stay safe and well too! XX💗
I am so amazed to see where you started and your final piece. I still have my secret fear of messing something up, but you show how it can be very much a part of the artistic process. Always a delight to watch you!
Thanks Kate, that fear is with us all the time, it is quite sad to mess a page up, but if the worst comes to the worst, we can always paint over and start again! (I would have been gutted if this hadn't worked out, though) 💗💗
That was fun to watch and very different to your usual videos. Anazing stuff that gouache and the 'negative' affect was really exciting to watch.Thank you for sharing with us🥰🥰
Thank you - I know, I find it difficult to cover up all the background, it was terrifying! Oh well luckily it turned out OK, but it might have been an awful mistake! 💗
I have done something like this a few years ago. I'd forgotten how fun it was. Like you, I fall in love with the background lol. This piece turned out beautifully, Kari. The colors are gorgeous.
Thanks Marti, this way of painting was great fun, I will explore it some more I think. Yes, getting too attached to the background is my problem so much. 😂💗💜💗
Oh my, this is so gorgeous. I did wonder how it would turn out when you started doing the white layer, but after the second one it began to look really special. I also love all the dots you applied and the writing. I've done something similar to this but only used black paint and using acrylics, which worked out quite well, so thanks for showing us how it turns out with a different colour. Tfs xo
Thanks Elizabeth, yes it needed that second coat, one just wasn't enough. I may have to try what you did with the dark blocking out, instead of the white, it would be interesting to experiment, great idea! 💙🤍💙
This style is refreshing. I'd be afraid to cover up a good background too but as you can see, it turned out really beautiful. I really think you should do this more to add to the variety of styles you use in your art journals. (in New Yorker's accent) I love it like... oh my Guash!
That was very interesting, thank you for sharing this with us. I have done something a little similar before but my background layer was not stenciled, and then I did the negative painting with black mixed with purple instead of white like yours. And I did not do the decorative bits like you have done on top of the white... now thats giving me ideas to go back to that painting and add some marks to it :))) Thanks Kari, always enjoy watching you paint.
Thanks Maria, yours sounds very interesting, I shall have to try the dark background next and yes, go back in and add some more. Thanks for watching me paint! 💗💗
Hullo, Kari! I loved this beautiful page so much! I enjoy negative painting from time to time. I do find it a challenge in that I fall in love with my backgrounds and cannot always bear to cover them up! :) I recently did a Klimt inspired tree in my large Dylusions journal using Arteza Gouache paints. (I love their acrylic and their gouache paints.) It came out really lovely and gave me more confidence to just do it - have a go and see what happens :) It was fun to see you working in a different medium. I enjoy gouache and don't see a lot of vids on doing journal pages with them. As usual, you've given me wonderful inspiration. I'm getting my paints out now! :) Love and Bless
Oh, I am so glad you are getting your gouache paints out too. I think they make a pleasant change to acrylics and I will do some more experimentation with them. Your Klimt inspired tree sounds fabulous! 💗
Loved this kari I've got lots of geli and some tubes of the gouache I do like making background journal pages with them , your page came out great the colours are lovely I recently found some Caran D'ache watercolour pencils in a charity shop for £1 bargain lol
Oh that is a bargain, Tracey - I do rather like Caran D'ache products. Oh you have the jelly gouache - Himi? It looks lovely, I am quite tempted, but I am trying to be good, LOL! (I really have enough paints to see me through several years). What are we like, though? We just can't resist all the lovely art stuff! 💗💗
I've seen other people do this but I've never done it, I think I wouldn't want to cover up the base layer either 😂💖 I don't have any gouache paints but I do have the chalk ones I love them so I might get some as I like the opaqueness of them (I think that's a word!!) it was lovely to watch you do this process though 😊😊
Oh yes, give it a go. Try not to get too attached to the background, though - and maybe be more organised than I was with planning the shapes, LOL! Those chalk paints would be great, but so would acrylics too. 💗💗
@@KariGibsonArt yes I would be unsure what shapes to go with... I may give it a go in the future, I need to get back into the mixed media first, I haven't done much lately! 😜😁😁
Oh yes, Maria, I have paints that are even older than that. Some last well, but some don't. I have some dried up tubes of Golden acrylics because I felt they were too good to use😥. Watercolours and gouache have lasted well, so long as the cap is on properly and the tube isn't damaged and even if they do dry up, they can be revived. Acrylics though, no chance😂. My oil paints have stood the test of time, too. 💗
This was so therapeutic to watch! I love that you pulled out some different media to remind us to play with it all! Very zen!
Thanks Cheran, I am glad you enjoyed it and yes, get out those unloved paints and use them! 😂💗💗

You are so kind Leslie - thank you - I am very glad you liked this, it was fun to do something different! 💗💗
What a lovely page with the gouache! Enjoyed seeing the negative painting evolve on this, a fun, fresh approach to a page!
Thanks Becca, it was something different, wasn't it? I do like to try something out of the ordinary every now and then. 💗
@@KariGibsonArt Yes it is always good to shake things up a bit and give ourselves some variety how we approach things!
I enjoyed watching you create this piece. I don't believe i have ever tried gouache paints. I like the idea of them not being sticky once dry!
Thanks Jovi, gouache paints aren't as easy as acrylic, but yes, the non-sticky pages is certainly a bonus! 💗💗

Thanks Toni, yes very different - I don't want my viewers to get bored, so I like to vary my techniques! 💗💖
@@KariGibsonArt I think that's s good idea. Not predictable is good👍👍
I have never seen the negative painting before. Not sure I am brave enough to cover up everything. thank you

Looks good 😃 Ive tried doing art like that but just didn't suit me, couldn't outline shapes very well
Thank you, yes it was difficult, I did get a bit shoogly every now and then, but I just carried on and pretended it was meant to be like that, LOL! 🤣💗
Hi Kari...what fun..I am the first comment(I get pleasure from the little things) haha..I like the stencils you made.

I wished I didn't know that now, I'll procrastinate making art for longer having this knowledge 😆
