  • Playing rest stroke (apoyando) with the thumb is an essential flamenco guitar right hand technique. Tutorial with FREE tab. This video shows 19 daily drills to improve speed and accuracy in the right hand thumb. Playing apoyando with the thumb can be challenging at first. These exercises helped me to develop stability and stamina in the right hand generally. If your thumb is sluggish and stiff like mine was, give these drills a try.

Happy I clicked- we have similar thumbs - don't bend back as much as some players- and I was concerned about my hand position beng too high. This has been helpful. Thanks.

If you mean the exercises themselves you are right. They are boring. Pain? Maybe that too. (I hope not) Both of these things come with the territory of learning guitar.

@@hersoveela My level is now about "Herencia Latina" Paco Pena. I fill my shoulders with pain, still looking for the best position.

@@okizvecan7930 I totally understand. I get shoulder pain too but this is my own fault. I sit in a bad position on an unsuitable chair. I'm too old to care. If I were you I would take a close look at the standard classical guitar sitting position. Take care my friend.
