Another thing to mention is that you are using the correct strings; I made the mistake of starting with the extra strong strings. That didn't want to work properly. Now, after years, it's not a problem. But for beginners it is important to use the right strings. Thanks and best regards
I use normal tension strings. You are right that high tension strings are not a good thing to start with. Low tension strings are a good option. I mention Carlos Montoya who played great sounding slurs. The thing about him is that I understand he tuned his guitar down 2 semitones and used a capo to bring the music up to a higher pitch. This might help make slurs easier to play but I would rather get them right at normal tension strings and standard tuning. Thank yuou for your comment.
Sal, the slurs that I find tricky are the 4-3 3-2 2-1 1-0 type. I tend rush them and just play 4-3-2-1. Also I am smoother going down the scale then going up the scale.
About a month ago I decided to get serious with slurs. Trust me when I say I found all types of slur combinations tricky. It took a couple of weeks before I felt I was making any progress. I thought I was never going to get this. I practiced super slow and made myself aware of where the tension was and tried to relax between every finger movement. I seem to be on the right track. I just want to say that you are actually talking to a enthusiastic amateur here. One day I will put my hand up and say "I got this". Not yet, but that day is coming.
