- Today we visit a traditional Connemara Pony Show in Ballyconneely. I talk to my cousin Thomas about the Connemara Pony Breeders' Society and enjoy the music and the atmosphere during this traditional day out. Look below for more details. Wonderful video Terri.I’m too of Irish descent and I carry a huge sense of pride for my family.It’s very important to carry on traditions more so now than any other time in history.Our lives are changing in the most insidious way and we must hold on to our traditions and freedom to express ourselves through our heritage.Our young people need to know the importance of tradition and how to keep it going and continue to pass it down through generations to come without being hindered❤
I totally agree. A lot of young people at the show seemed very aware, particularly as the government seems determined to destroy farming. xx
Without the Gaeilge language in Ireland and Gaelic in Scotland it is more like Disney world.

What a pleasant outing to share. Your young cousin and the other young people struck me. It happens I made a very rare trip to our large indoor shopping mall last week for some new trainers. Malls here are dying so I thought it might be kind of a sad visit, but like your pony show it was alive and vibrant and what delighted me most was all many the groups of young teens - their innocent excitement and simple enjoyments was a real pleasure. An agricultural local pony show/fair is surely nicer than a shopping mall, but whatever the location, how nice to really enjoy the real pleasure and joy of seeing young people out and interacting (and not in front of a TV on gaming devices😇) not yet under the pressures of adulthood.
It was indeed a very pleasant day out and the weather was a godsend. You are so right about the young people. They were very visible in their participation here and I was so happy to hear what Thomas was saying about his generation being very involved. They are under so much pressure at the moment and it is great to see them having some "just be" time . Hope you are keeping well - have something going in the post for you next week. xx

How wonderful to see the Connemara pony show. We used to go every year to the Clifden Pony Show. My own beautiful pony Mirage was half Connemara and half Arab, so she looked stunning in the summer and in the winter grew a long shaggy coat!
My boy is welshxarab. Looks like a teddy bear in winter then all sleek and handsome in summer. He was 33 this April and still going strong

What a lovely video! My first pony was a Welch, but I’ve admired the Connemara most of my life. There were nine in my area of America. Gorgeous landscape and animals love a fair. Missed seeing any knitting or crocheting. Thank you for this!!!

Since I was a child here in Australia I’ve always dreamed of being able to own a Connemara pony they are so sweet 🥹 . I’ve been riding since I was put on a horse at the age of 2 yrs in 1963 old . Right up to 2018 when I sustained an injury due to work place bullying in Dementia care as a nurse . And had my Shoulder permanently damaged & emotionally traumatised also there was three yrs that it hurt emotionally to even look at horses as I knew my shoulder was no longer fit to be able to safely control a horse let alone support me mounting & dismounting a horse again 😣😢🥺 but now I can at least enjoy finally being able to watch someone else ride their horses even though I still get emotional if I allow my memories of myself enjoying a good ride then oh god here goes the tears are yet again flowing again 😢

Thank you Terri for sharing. Lovely ponies, my oldest daughter, who is now 35, had a lovely connemara pony when she turned 10. We called him Rocky and what a strong minded pony he was lol. I love all the country fairs, the history and having a bit of craic with my rural neighbours. An ancient one on the North coast we go to, about 50 miles from us, is the Aul Lammas Fair in Ballycastle. Its famous for the stalls that sell Dolce and Yellow man. X

I was lucky enough to grow up with a Connemara pony. She was the best. Always saw the gopher holes whilst racing across meadows and avoided them. Loved going swimming in the neighborhood creek. Could pull a small cart. Oh how I loved her! Samantha was her name.

This was lovely. My grandmother was from Ballinasloe and i would love to go one fall to their horse show. I have always had a love of horses and grew up riding. There is something so peaceful and calming being around them. Thanks for sharing this.
Beautiful ponies. And congratulations to your cousin! Lovely show and I think people will start returning. We had our mid-Devon show on Saturday (still no poultry) but the animals were lovely. It was a wash out but it was amazing how many people turned out regardless, so there is hope yet.

@@DanusIrishHerbGarden I think we've had so much rain that it is a case of get out and make the most of it. They had drenched children racing Shetland ponies, relay races with their ponies, beautiful horse display team, the heavy horses in their finery - and all the farm animals - all sorts. But I did love the Valaise sheep and the long wool sheep. I have a soft spot for Kerry Hills too! LOL! Anyway thank you for showing your event - I do enjoy these shows. xx
