- Death Stranding does not stop to wondering me. Equally in termas of its uniqueness and graphics. This is really one of the best looking games of this generation. I just can't wait for another "A Hideo Kojima Game" for next generation.
In the meantime, let's take a look on direct comparison of PSX 2017 Gameplay Trailer vs Retail verison of the game captured on PS4 Pro on 4K Display.

@@v-trigger6137 Days Gone was great. ALOT of reviews were garbage. You only have to read one to see the author only played 15 hours of the 70 hour game that it is. Weapons and shooting, for example, get better when you get military grade guns much later on the game. Digital Foundry also said its the best looking and most ambitious open world Unreal Engine 4 game to date. And that's after 7 years of UE4 remember, still releasing on a console from 2013 and still running at native 1080p with no compromises. It simply cannot be garbage you tool.

@@cuentapersonal8472 It's not just more darkness. It's higher contrast overall. What's illuminated by the light is much clearer and more visible, and the dark shadows are sharper and were clearly darker to further emphasize the horror of the scene. There's also more visible detail in Sam's clothes and the vehicles.

@@stallingset7301 , it must be higher, current gamma level is very low, too much details in the shadows are just pure black. That's not right in terms of color correction. It doesn't needs to be as bright as in trailer, but like half trailer's brightness

@Bryce Czirr you said ''empty world'', well I'm pretty sure you haven't play the game yet, but I did played it, the first time I'm walking on the world, I did feel so boring at the time, but after you leveling up your sam, you will get amounts of rewards that you've never seen before, unlike the division, destiny or other looter shooter genre, even you're finished the game, each reward from other npcs is unpredictable, it will slowly makes your gameplay even more addictive & fun, it's sort of slowly rewarding and relaxing the way you play the game, sure this game is not for everyone but you definitely need to try before criticizes the game itself.
I'm not trying to defending the game or Kojima himself, I'm just saying the truth

They cancelled the release date of most of their big games because they want to improve the graphics, so I guess they heard you.

it seems they editted the contrast to make certain colours stand out amongst the grey, made things a bit darker, made realistic rain splatter, and just improved texture quality overall. good job! first time I've seen an improvement in the retail version. I especially love the higher contrast colours, it adds alot

I love how they upped the contrast for the final release. Those dark shadows really added to the tension of this scene, and put better emphasis on Sam's unique blood.

Digital Foundry didn't think so, and honestly neither do I.
One similarly heavy cutscene preceding a Cliff fight actually had a very minor pop in moment when Sam's glasses didn't load in right away. That pretty much confirmed to me that the entire cutscene was in-engine.

Better lighting and colours in the PSX demo, PS4 pro is too oversaturated. Everything else is better in the retail version, and how they got this to run on a base PS4 is something of a miracle.
I think the base PS4 is underestimated its still a very powerful machine once fully exploited.

The reflective material on Sam´s Outfit is amazing, and this game looks superb and performs amazingly on a regular fat Ps4

Hard black shadows..makes it look ugly and fake.. bluish tint also makes it worse..
What i like is inclusion of yellow in these scenes

The retail is much more vibrant, I prefer that one, although it is darker. There's more sharper detail in the PSX and it has a nice touch.
Both versions are really good the way they are... Textures, models, geometry, details... None of these version is better than the other one, simply different
I prefer the 2017 version of the baby but everything else retail wins

MGS4 trailer was way better than retail version. But this time, Kojima delivered, retail as good as trailer, somehow even better.

im really having a blast with this game, im on the 2nd map at chapter 3, is amazing, when you unlock the bike, and the exo legs for running, jumping and carry more stuff is awesome, also the HIGHWAYS ! omg, building god damn highways together is awesome.
If anyone remembers D2 for the dreamcast, this scene reminds of that. Especially when the guy gets picked up upside down, and the music starts playing.

For those who are calling death stranding a walking simulator or boring did not buy the game, thus didn't play. It's one thing for you to watch a game it's another for you to play. Do you think you would get the same rush watching someone on a roller coaster as being on one?
it doesn't look better actually, It looks finished/complete like they didn't change a thing at all just adjusted the lighting and added additional effects to stuff that needed it. its pretty good actually because otherwise some of the scenes looked pretty bland and empty in comparison

It's probably the recording... some processing was done to the image. some sort of "HDR".
Regarding the game itself, yeah some textures are even better on the retail.

Graphically it's not really better but the lighting has more contrast and there's just more color in general. All of that and the difference in camera positioning makes it better but subtly so.

This is a rarity. Normally these days when most games release, they end up looking NOTHING like when they were shown as a demo (I'm looking at you Anthem). For this to show an IMPROVEMENT... just tells me that Kojima and his team actually gave a damn.
But tbh its just color saturation snd contrast increased a bit in post. Amd also model texture adjustments
The graphics still look amazing and all, but... It's sad how we could've gotten an amazing action / horror game, but we got USPS Simulator 2019
The baby is more detailed in 2017 and Norman looks more realistic I’m skin tone when he shed a tear part of it. I think people should give it a second look to see what’s going on here plus cutscene shouldn’t be use to compare it’s comes down to gameplay. All the leaks showed exactly what we got. A very robotic moving character. Disappointed in that. Took it would’ve been smoother in retail once released. Maybe the ps5 version will be better.

PSX 2017 Demo looks better in. It is more accurate in terms of lighing. All object in the scene are more recognizable. The only thing that is better in retail version is those gold particles

People release exclusives on the console. Then they go out for the PC. But graphics are exclusive to PCs, not consoles. Don't worry kids
looks like the demo had a different subsurface scattering shader on the skin that produced nicer results in the demo and had a bit more indirect light. They probably had to cut those for performance reasons. They look REALLY close though, hats off to them, this was not a dishonest demo at all
I always thought this was just marketing footage running on some super workstation to showcase the BTs and characters but then it played during gameplay and my mibd was blown

Yes because the one where you can see fuck all is the better one. 2017 looks better. Yeah there are some better textures but the lighting is horrible.
They made it somewhat worse with the color grading and increased contrast. 2017 version had more natural colors. Very nice still.
The only thing that looks better in the demo is perhaps the truck texture at 1:41 , and BT walking on the truck. Otherwise, it's all either artistic differences, or outright looks better in retail.

This got to be one of the most boring games out there. I mean just make a movie and it will be a lot better. Every gameplay is always someone walking other than that a cut scene. So a movie would have been better.
