- As a Velvet Underground fan, I don't know why it took me so long to get round to listening to Lou Reed's solo work. Maybe I had heard Walk On The Wild Side on the radio and assumed it was all like that. On the plus side, I had a large back catalogue to discover. The first album I bought on release was New York in 1989 and here is Lou playing two songs from that album at the 'Nelson Mandela: An International Tribute for a Free South Africa' show on 16th April 1990 at Wembley Stadium 2 months after Mandela's release from prison. New York is a very underrated album. Every song is a gem.
been looking for this performance for six years
I was there; Lou was utterly spellbinding. x
fantastic.
I’ve recently discovered more of his solo work-I’m addicted! Check out the performance of he & Elvis Costello doing “Set the twilight reeling”. Amazing! First song I ever knew from childhood was Sweet Jane, but in recent weeks after 49 years, for discovered all I missed & actually feel moved by it. Thanks for posting-great version!
Thanks for your comment. I will check out that performance.
I just watched it. Quite a contrast in singing styles!
The Upstairs Room Yes. I love the contrast & the energy!
