- One option for treating varroa mites in your honey bee colonies is to use oxalic acid. You can either dribble or vaporize it to kill the mites riding on bees (not beneath the capped brood cells). Follow along as we show how to use the oxalic acid dribble kit featuring Api-Bioxal to treat our Betterbee hives for mites in the winter.
We recommend dribbling during a brood break (like during winter or on a newly hive package or swarm), when all mites in the colony will be exposed due to the absence of capped brood. Though it's often a winter treatment, you can dribble any time outdoor temperatures are 40-50 degrees F or higher.

Great and simple instructions ❤
why not use a squirt bottle to coat the bees?
How often can you do this method of treatment?
Can you do it monthly
So why to do this over the gas method?
For folks with a few hives, this slower method is acceptable and lower cost. Also, there is no need for a respirator.
