And then there have been three new graphic novels down for the Incal-verse done by new creators. I have a whole video showing off all these and the rest of Jodorowsky books!
I’ve never heard of this series before.. but looking at that artwork, I wish I had! Stunning detail and very futuristic, considering it was the late 80’s / early 90’s? Definitely on my radar now, thanks! Looks like a well put together hardcover.
Travis Charest's work on Weapons of the Metabaron introduced me to Juan Gimenez's work on Metabarons! These books are pure gems, and deserve more love. The artworks are some of the best in the entire comics history! Great video!
Literally just started reading this on Global Comix. While I liked the Incal's artwork the story and dialogue could be hard work. Heard good thing about Metabarons so fingers crossed it's as good as you and others say :)
Man, I need to pick this up in hardcover. I was buying these in individual issues as they came out and, yes, it's one of the greatest space operas in the comics medium. Such inventiveness and universe building went into that book. Thanks for putting this video out and reminding me of what an amazing book it is. Juan Gimenez's art is just breathtaking. Humanoids always deserved to be a bigger publisher in the states than they are. They have far more great European graphic novels that should be better known. Jodorowsky's works are just a small portion of them.
Thanks for this review, I have known The Caste of the Metabarons since my then-boyfriend (now husband) introduced me to it and I agree it's GREAT. It's also a punch in the gut, but it's so worth it. Fun fact: I recently dug into the lore because the cosplay season was about to start and my husband suggested we go for two Metabarons (please don't tell Freud haha) - no joke I was literally feeling sick while reading, then I pulled out my notebook to list all the equipment, chopped my hair off Mulan-style, and started glueing cardboard and sewing leather. We attended the first convention last week, and I can't wait to be back for seconds! If I had to choose a single detail I appreciated about the saga, it would be that female characters are very strong and although they are sexualized you don't get the feeling they are only there as eye candy. Gimenez contributes to this effect by giving the characters very intense expressions, to the point that faces can often appear completely distorted. In my opinion, few things are as cheesy as "cute rage" or "sexy fear", if you know what I mean! PS: the name you were looking for is Lothar, or at least that's his name for a while...

For sure one of the greatest comics of all time. In some ways I’m glad Jodorowskys Dune failed, because if it had succeeded I don’t think we would have gotten the Incal or Metabarons as jodorowsky would have focused on his film career instead of comics.
I agree about the ultimate space opera. Where everything is big, big battles, big ships, big personalities, big feelings. But for me Star Wars is more space adventure.
I should hate jodororowsky's guts for creating that comic. He totally ruined everything else i would read in the future. Nothing and i mean nothing can beat that masterpiece.

I agree with that as well! As much as I’d love to see Jodorowsky’s Dune. I cherish the comics universe that sprouted from it!
