Ferrer had a very good stamina which he developed overtime as everybody was taking advantage of his relatively low stature and made him run to exhaust him. In this particular match he tried to beat Nadal at his own game: hit the ball hard and defend on the baseline as if his life depended on it. In my opinion, he would have been even more competitive if he would have tried to win more points at the net and shorten the rallies.
It’s always amazing when you have players at the beginning of their careers capable of great defense continue to add aggression to their game to allow breakthroughs, while still being good defenders. I always felt that if a player is capable of good defense AND offense, that they are just truly complete players. It gives them more outs as opposed to players who simply refuse to chase down shots, rely too much on aggression, as well as players who you cannot hope to just grind, especially passively.

Aleksa Teemo what I like about Federer’s serve is how he doesn’t often resort to big first serves past the 120 mark. As he stated, he realized early on 120 was big enough. Nadal has been trying to serve bigger but I never got the feel that he was trying to go past that mark often. Whereas many players I feel are, and they don’t seem to place as much emphasis on precision that the Big Three do.
This was a brutal battle. Ferrer played the best French Open match of his life but it still wasn't nearly enough to defeat the God of clay. Rafa is just Rafa. The GOAT.
