      I saw the highlights where ferrer put his headband at the T after his final match.
      He did after acknowledging great play by Sasha, took a moment to soak it in.. his final time, sat down, without shedding a tear, but taking a deep breath, got up, thank the crowd for their loving support and just gingerly placed his head band at T with respect.👍👍👍 he is champion even without a slam!

      They're basically opposites.
      Ferrer had the least natural talent/athleticism of any top-10 player in the last decade, but was such a hard worker and fighter that he made the most of what he was given.
      Nalbandian was insanely talented but never seemed to "want it" all that much, and basically wasted most his natural abilities.

    Ferrer had a very good stamina which he developed overtime as everybody was taking advantage of his relatively low stature and made him run to exhaust him. In this particular match he tried to beat Nadal at his own game: hit the ball hard and defend on the baseline as if his life depended on it. In my opinion, he would have been even more competitive if he would have tried to win more points at the net and shorten the rallies.

    It’s always amazing when you have players at the beginning of their careers capable of great defense continue to add aggression to their game to allow breakthroughs, while still being good defenders. I always felt that if a player is capable of good defense AND offense, that they are just truly complete players. It gives them more outs as opposed to players who simply refuse to chase down shots, rely too much on aggression, as well as players who you cannot hope to just grind, especially passively.

      Aleksa Teemo what I like about Federer’s serve is how he doesn’t often resort to big first serves past the 120 mark. As he stated, he realized early on 120 was big enough. Nadal has been trying to serve bigger but I never got the feel that he was trying to go past that mark often. Whereas many players I feel are, and they don’t seem to place as much emphasis on precision that the Big Three do.

      Actually that Nadal at RG 2014 was the second best ever. 2008 was his greatest version. Honestly, 2014 would've been epic if it wasn't for the injury. It started fucking amazing, playing some brutally agressive tennis.. Miss those days. 2017 started good though. Let's see how it ends. I can see a 10th french title, but let's wait. • @gherbihicham8506
      @gherbihicham8506 6 лет назад +2

      The era of specialists ended in the late 90's with introduction of new racket technology, if being a specialist means being just good on one surface and sucking on the others than there are plenty of people who qualify.
      Nadal defeated Coria, Juan Carlos Ferrero, David Ferrer, Almagro etc.. these are all players who were considered prodigies on the clay and what some people would refer to as clay court specialists(although I don't believe that term applies any more), but imo having to play guys like Djokovic and Federer was way more challenging, if it wasn't for Nadal both Djokovic and Federer would have had atleast 5 French Opens each.

    David Ferrer was a terrific player who couldn't quite match it with the big four of Rafa, Roger, Novak and Andy Murray although he had his victories over all of them except Federer. While worse players historically won slams there was no shame that he couldn't win his sole final at Roland Garros in 2013 with the GOAT on clay in Nadal standing in his way. Rafa in the 2014 match was slow to start, but once he got going there was nothing Ferrer could really do as Rafa's forehand, backhand and defence was just too strong! Ferrer's serve just lacked the necessary pop as he was only 5 ' 9 & it was just too much of a disadvantage against his bigger legendary opponents. Plus as great as his attack and speed was Ferrer's defence wasn't quite good enough, but then no other player's has been on clay when Nadal was at his best.

      From Australia You can’t just allow Nadal to stay in the rally after blowing him away with a first serve. Ferrer didn’t have the tools to punish Nadal’s weaker shots

    Ferrer forehand is not efficient. Wastes too much energy and does little damage.

    • @Activision24
      @Activision24 4 года назад +1

      It was the big difference between both.Nadal forehand is simply the best of the world especially on clay.

  • @OnTheWrongThiem

    Ferrer put all his energy into the first 2 sets, none left in the tank after the second one which he lost. Still, Ferrer would beat anyone on clay at his peak, even Nadal. He grinds you down so much you can't do anything about it

      A. Thunder No he wouldn’t lmao. Nadal is a phenomenon on clay, only two people have beaten him at Roland Garros for good reason. 11 titles speaks for itself, half of which came when he was supposedly passed it

    Just because someone is a "clay specialist" doesn't mean they are excellent.they are clay specialists who have made it to the quarterfinals of the French Open or have never won a clay master's. In his prime Federer was a better clay player than most of the clay specialists playing today and would even have defeated thiem.Djokovich and Federer are great clay court players.you don't have to be a clay court specialist to play great on clay.Sampras grew up on Hardcourts yet he was a great grass player.
