For those wondering why Nael van Darnus is a woman, the story is interesting. In universe, Nael was indeed a guy, but after he was mortally wounded on a mission his sister Eula took over the mantle, killing first their father (as she blamed Nael's death on him for sending him on that mission) and his immediate command so as to keep her true identity secret. After dying to (and getting tempered) by Bahamut, there's a bit of gender confusion on her/his part as her own identity and the identity she took on blurred in the tempering. Out of universe, Nael was intended to be a Samus-style reveal, but there's also a bit of 'lost in translation' at play. The Japanese version had neither gendered pronouns nor voice acting to go off, and communication between the teams wasn't the same back in 1.0, so the English localization had to pick a gender. They went with he, and the rest is history.

For people wondering why Asmon got such a sudden positive PR boost in the XIV community despite the initial friction... This video is exactly why. Most players (including many big dick endgame chads) have never even attempted these fights level synced, let alone at minimum ilvl without echo. The fact that he's willing to prog these fights blind at all is a major flex and has earned him insane amounts of respect from the XIV playerbase.
It's less about you that it is about him. He can queue any content and have his group filled. With experienced players or players willing to learn for the duration of his stream. You try this now, and no one will join your game. I bet your ass your static also won't bother doing this, the amount of headache is not worth the time investment for most people. If you have time to fool around, you have time to max your relic or reclear ultimates. But his stream is fun, because even though you aren't going to do this in your life span, you can experience the prog and the clear live, or on vod. Which makes this really amazing for both new and old players.
@@PewPewSol I've literally progged these fights synced for fun on my data center and my PF only took 40 or so minutes to fill up. There's even entire discords dedicated to running old content min ilvl w/o echo. Asmon got his parties instantly filled but it's not exactly hard to get a group together to run this shit for fun. Especially right now when we're in the pre-expansion lull.
lmao pls. this is content actual endgame chads grinded for last time before it was nerfed. and seriously, tanking is not even close to be the hardest thing to do in earlier raids. most of the responsibilities lie on the healers and dps. those were times with cleric stance and bringing in a summoner just to have an extra res in case healer dies. plus, his members have experience or remembers some of it. its not like he's doing it with 8 sprouts. progression is guaranteed. considering his mass experience in MMOs, obviously he will clear it lol. the problem last time was DPS checks and gear. Sometimes casters need to slot in vit accessories just to survive better. of course I'm not downplaying his achievements. Its great. but don't pin the friction to ffxiv community. its the NA COMMUNITY and WOW community. We asian players dgaf. more players = more fun tbh. dont know what you guys are complaining about.
Hahaha, no wonder. Everyone spams their off gcds at the beginning of a fight, unless the group is coordinated enough to wait for burst frames like the Ninja‘s Assassinate.
@@Sheroloxusing them as early as possible isn’t a bad thing. This allows you to use them more often in the fight. Using your CDs 4 times a fight is better than using them 2 or 3.
What I love the most about these streams is even when they're wiping, he never blames or singles out other players. He's surprisingly positive and if someone makes a mistake, well, shit happens. Even he makes mistakes and owns up to them.
i think he mentinoed in the WoW 9.1 raid stream. He doesn't have any issues with people so long as they all know what they did wrong, including himself and try to NOT do that again considering that a lot of the players he pugs with have raid achievements and "always mess up in 15 year old mechanics". Here, he know he's new to the game and is still learning, but I'm willing to bet once he knows everything and has enough experience, he gonna start calling out
@@Americanheld He did not know any mechanism, did not pop defense cooldown as needed, take a ton of extra damage which should be avoided. The reason he survived was that the healers are being nice and always shielded him. This is being carried.
@@AD-sh4rw A tank does the carrying doofus, without a tank, EVERYONE dies in one or two hits. That's his role while everybody else SUPPORTS him so that THEY won't die.
I am so jazzed by the fact that Asmongold, whom I expected to think the entire FFXIV experience would be a slog, is *willingly* experiencing and learning the old raid content min ilevel no echo and legitimately enjoying it, story and all. He hasn't even made it to HW yet! I wish more people would play devil's advocate against their bias and play FFXIV like this, truly going out of their way to experience the game in it's entirety.

@@trufflie1635 Yeah they actually made some of the base game quests less frustrating somewhat recently. There's free gear that gives xp bonuses at early levels so look it up so you dont miss out. I hope you find a really nice guild along the way as well, good luck!
Iffin' you care, Nael's deal is that the original male Nael died on a mission his father sent him on. His little sister, Eula, snapped and killed EVERYONE who knew Nael died, then assumed her brother's identity to "keep him alive." She was already quite insane, and Bahamut's touch did not help.
@@jedahaw Yeah, it's a story beat that doesn't mean much practically (enemy is actually his sister but always was doesn't mean anything, it's not like the real Nael died in 1.0, he died well before) but it humanises Euna/Nael a bit more that she's already mad with grief and that combined with her tempering has caused her to confuse even her own identity with the one she's taken on.
That means he has enough patience to babysit all the Trust NPCs all the way through SHB twice to get them all leveled. I should know, Urianger loves to stand still and do nothing during a certain tree boss fight.
Imagine that, if you don't boost in this game and you actually take the time to learn the fights, mechanics and go through with some care and attention, you can have fun doing 8 year old content. And if you do boost, you just end up wiping on easy mode story content and resorting to lies and slander on twitter to cover your ass.
Tbf, you wouldn't get to experience coil like he gets too. I'm not saying you should boost if you're new, but even if you'd try to form a MINE party (minimum iLevel, no echo) you won't get a full party. If you do, it'll take hours or days

I was a part of the second coil raid and it was the most fun I've had in FFXIV in a long time, but also the most nervous I've ever been playing the game lmao

You can always become part of the community for the critically-acclaimed MMO Final Fanfasy XIV due to it’s free trial that goes until the Heavensward expansion (in other words, you can do about four times the content Asmon has gone through for 100% free with no time limit)
Finding friends in this game is not as easy as it sound, everyone is too serious and minding their own things when they played, been playing for weeks now as a sprout and I'm addicted even without the social aspect.
@@PutraRhm well, everyone plays at their own pace and chooses to go with people they know or solo the game with randoms in dungeons. It really matters is if YOU are enjoying it or not. If you ever find an FC you can play comfortably with, that is great! But if you want to go at it solo, then thats fine too. Should never feel like you have to play the game in certain ways just because this group is doing it this way or that way and feel like you're in chains and restricted. Heh just something I usually say to newcomers when I greet them into the FC I'm in :3

Coils have always been quite challenging, especially compared to later Normal raids which were designed to make it easier for more casual players to clear, with the tough stuff in Savage. Coils were their first shot at this sort of content, so they still weren't sure how they wanted to approach it yet. At least compared to how consistent the framework of raid series from Alexander on were by comparison.
@@JackgarPrime I'm curious how he'll feel after pepsiman and nisi+penticles from gordias :) Then again... coils savage was no joke either especially turn 9, with the Ravensbeak followed by bahamuts favor followed by ravensblight blowing up. so much damage for ilvl 110
They are easier than they used to be for sure but things like a4s and a8s are still incredibly hard compared to the coils and stack up with pretty hard mechanical complexity without reading a guide. Item sync does still give an advantage to a prog teams ilevel as well not even counting the changes to abilities and rotations being easier now. It should be a lot of fun to watch regardless, asmon will be forced to learn a lot to get over those fights for sure.
@@MFxKuro I am well aware. They have removed a ton of low level abilities to simplify these levels of gameplay and the stat squishes and overall strength of abilities has reduced the difficulty from release. I have been playing the game since ARR launch and have cleared all content at release.
@@francoisturgeon1176 anyone can clear with enough time especially considering a lot of the people he has in his groups are very experienced good players that he doesn’t fully realize. I’m sure he will. Ultimates take a long amount of time to grind through even for good groups and take a lot more than 30 wipes. There isn’t really even compareable content in wow to them.

Unless you know how the fights work you can't really see how hard some of the other party members are working with the mechanics since the main tank really doesn't deal with any of them (until T9 though lol). Big props to Dominic for a saving a few runs with those clutch tank LBs though.
Tanking in this game is probably the easiest job in an encounter. That said, I can't wait until the day he sees Light Rampant for the first time. I still can't wrap my head around it.
@@Phryguye tanking in this game is not easy at high end game content. E6S, E8S, E12S are incredibly challenging tank fights and then there’s ultimates but those challenge every role equally IMO.
He's absolutely being carried. But I think most people get that, along with the whole fake "raid leading" shtick where he pretends to be in charge and yells commands even though he's not in voice chat with the party.

I didn't watch the stream, but from what I understand, this was a high end raid group. Apparently, he did it again later, just synced, with a bunch of sprouts and got raped.

@@Lordoftheapes79 This is absolutely not a high end raid group, you can tell by their gear. But since this is old content and it's synced, you don't have to be a high end raid group to do it, you just have to know the mechanics of the fight.
@@nacujo They weren't ready for how badly the tanks were dying. Cockadus slaps hard. Also the cleave was getting a ton of people killed. Took well over an hour on stream.
Man it fills me with so much nostalgia seeing Coil done as it was meant to be. Sure it got a little nerf, but done this way, i feel like i did when my FC took me in there, and we progged the raid a little at a time until we stomped through it.
It's more than a little nerf. Even at min ilevel and no echo classes do more damage than they did in ARR. All potencies are higher, although it's hard to directly compare them across expansions, but just as an example every time a Warrior does a combo it ends in a 420 potency Storm's Eye or Path, which hits harder than Inner Beast does now at 350 potency, so they're basically using what used to be a big attack that took 5 stacks of rage every 3 gcds. Also tank stance and cleric stance are no longer things so tanks and healers do a lot more damage, and the useless stats of Accuracy and Parry have been replaced with Direct Hit and Tenacity. The accuracy is especially huge because you went from having a chance your attacks would just miss to having effectively infinite accuracy and all the points in accuracy on your gear became a chance to hit 25% harder for free.

@@mike4088 echo is automatically applied when the dungeon is capable of echo, for example, high-level dungeon except the latest one. (For example, Eden 9~12 Savage were first released in 5.4 and didn’t have echo at that time. They now have echo after 5.57) Sorry for that my English is not good enough that might not be easy to realize, you can search for echo FFXIV to get more information.

t9's phase 1 theme, Tempest, is a fucking banger and it pains me they never remix it or anything. but every time I see someone do this fight I get to enjoy it all over again because it just fits how raw the fight was to play
fucking right it is. I never got the original expeirience of synched lvl and min ilvl cause I joined late, but when I did this as a duo team this theme stuck in my mind.
Turn 9 (nael) took my static 12 hours to beat synced (across 6 weeks, with nobody having done them before), even with ilvl 130. It was so satisfying to finally beat. Hardest turn in all the coils imo. Bahamut came in 2nd place as far difficulty goes, Phoenix in 3rd place. so happy you are able to get so far in a single night
ARR Classic is practically built into the game! WoW would have a lot more content to offer players, both for fun and for newcomers, if it had these kind of syncing systems available.
@@fristrm Having just started playing it. You also have to consider you are watching this through a youtube video, cut from a stream taken from a person playing. In person with decent graphic settings the game looks very good IMO.
@14:55 Technically those Turn 2 mobs aren't trash. They are part of the boss encounter, and the boss gains buffs for each one killed, but also cannot eat them later to gain their abilities. Earlier FF14 raid design was a bit weird sometimes. It does suck how much the encounter length gets padded by refighting 3+ minibosses though. By 2.1 or so, people were already doing an "Enrage Strat" where you waited out the main boss' enrage timer of ~12min or so because when enraged all it did was spam massively damaging but survivable AOE, letting players forego mechanics and race a big target dummy before healers went OOM.
Its so strange that they don't. I know classes get big overhauls fairly regularly, but surely they'd be able to find a way to keep things relatively consistent in challenge like XIV does if they made it a focus.
@@altansipdrae2759 Yes, it has. But watching Asmongold charge into raid content or even certain dungeons for the spectacle (Keeper of the Lake) should be highly entertaining.
The amount of jealous people are just laughable. The guy literally just started playing this a handful of days ago. And is already clearing content at a difficulty the vast majority of players haven't done, and don't have a chance of doing. Not to mention it doing it all on the fly. Sure, he wasn't playing 100% perfect, but was obviously and absolutely pulling his weight. If he wasn't picking up adds like he was, and responding to tank swaps and mitigation when needed, he would have died FAR more often. Sure tanks don't carry in FFXIV, but they absolutely need to pull their weight. He earned these kills, and played well enough. And was respectful and a good leader throughout. Admitting when he screwed up but staying optimistic. Literally what you want from a raid leader.
@@JackgarPrime Don't be disappointed if he doesn't have a great reaction. He's already seen the 1.0 ending and A New Beginning. Personally I thought the new stuff in Flames of Truth was a bit interesting but really cheesy and I love the game. So mileage may vary with that.
I can't wait until he gets to current endgame. Day one before nerfs this raid smoked mfs. Especially T4 and T5 (T4 did stupid amounts of damage,, healers oom half way through the fight...T5 had to be nerfed hard before anyone could even clear it with the fookin invisible twisters) before nerfs. Salute to asmond for going through all the old content before he gets to the meat. T6-T9...especially T7...the memories bro. Dont get it twisted current raid content is not a pushover and was harder then (almost) anything I ever did in wow. T7 killed raid groups, T9 made mfs xfer off servers...
If you remember, Warrior couldn't even MT the fight in 2.1 because they simply,y had no way to survive death sentence plus plummet then the following auto attack

I hope that later on he can form a group of people who are also blind (maybe other streamers?) for at least some of the future raids. It doesn't have to be all, but doing that at least a couple of times would be nice to get the experience.

I think this is a real indication how the game has changed from launch. Minimum iLevel at Level 50 and not knowing the mechanics of a Turn would get your entire party killed every single time. These fights, while difficult, are much easier than when I ran them years ago. Not sure what has changed. Maybe players do more damage at the same iLevel (due to restructuring of abilities) or maybe it got stealth nerfed, but the fact that he frequently had no idea what was going on and they still easily cleared speaks to that. T9, at the absolute minimum, was the Static Breaker. Groups wiped on it for MONTHS at a time, and needed to know every mechanic to perfect levels of mastery to even have a chance of meeting the DPS check.
I don't mind that he's getting carried by solid players so much, because it's refreshing to see all the content through a new players eyes. The joy and excitement is a pleasure to see!
He's still going in blind and quickly adapting + doing his tank job ok despite streaming and everything. Kinda impressive. And the min ilvl no echo force everyone to be on the fence and not brutly overgearing fights.
@@taken6298 Endwalker is probably going to be some great content, if he's here for it, because then we are going to watch him learn along without the benefit of other people having prior fight knowledge. I think its safe to assume that he will be well versed in the encounter design language of the game by then.

not gonna lie, watching him clear this stuff really makes me nostalgic, all i can think of is my clears with my old FC, I may have fell out with them, but man... those were good ol days. It's nice to see him clear.
People keep forgetting how skilled Asmon because of the character he puts on when streaming, but you gotta remember he has been a top raider since TBC and still a top Mythic raider.
Yeah like he is good but still it' 8 year old content shit will only get more challangin but still he is really fast in picking up on mechs. Now he only needs to learn how to play war optimal and he will easily kill all ultimates
The content is easier than was when original released, for example on T5, on that time wouldn't be possible to win with so many people dying there like they win here. Even so, Asmongold is skilled for sure.
He is doing a great job no question, id love to see him try second coil savage tho. Those fights have not been nerfed so the only buff you will get is the fact that jobs are simply stronger than they where in Arr.
@@chinsehatori5815 well i have no doubt he will be capable if he wants too I think saying he will easily kill all ultimates is a bit much. Those fights take a good amount of prog and it takes a bit of time to get new players through them.
For the sake of not enraging a scholar or a white mage, when you see something on the floor, circular, that shines with a blueish glow? stand in. The Scholar's Sacred Soil mitigates a 10% of the damage received only if you're insire (and later on it will regenerate your health), The White Mage's Asylum will apply a regen while you stay in and you will get a bigger heal of every spell (including more optent shields and regens). That you'd help your healers not needing to heal and allowing them to DPS
He's making amazing progress! Hopefully he doesn't get robbed like Annie did,healer mass ressurected whole team at like 1% and Nael wiped the whole raid with the final dynamo LOL.
Massive props to Asmon for perseverance. Having a team of people who know the raid is obviously a massive boon of course, but this is on minimum ilvl, no echo...and synced, basically release day difficulty almost. Nael Van Darnus is what many were waiting for.....and after that, Bahamut Prime will be a trial and a half. The funny thing is Asmon isn't even fighting Nael on her hardest difficulty for that fight alone, the entire of second coils has a savage mode.

i've done turn 1 and 2 with min ilvl and no echo with my fc mates and its brutal. right now we're stuck in turn 5. Wipes upon wipes but the feelings of achievement after you finish the boss is enormous. Had fun playing the coils in the hardest difficulty.
Remember guys, these are nerfed 2nd coil fights. Final Coil and 2nd Coil Savage will be the real challenges. but so far, he's doing really good, although, I wish he went as a DPS. it would've been hilarious
final coil was mocked by the community for being 'too easy' compared to second coil back in the day, and the outcry of 'we want challenging raids SE' was what led to gordias being a cockstomper of a tier, second coil savage might be interesting if he does those, but final coil won't be as much of a challenge as you might expect as for gordias at minimum item level, well, a streamer called ferro has a group has been trying it blind, and it is still, as asmon would put it, a cock

Those first 8 fights are going to be a great watch, I'm even looking forward to the main man himself returning, the Minimum item level Faust.
@@Hooga89 no, not with people telling him what mechanics were happening. A few fights the experienced people were doing mechanics that he didn't even know about. Like in T7 the shriek where asmongold was the only person getting petrified. These fights are probably comparable in difficulty to extreme trials now
I love that Asmongold is enjoying XIV and I'm even more glad that he's taking the time to follow the story and enjoying it. And if he enjoys the story so far in ARR he'll really enjoy it going through the other expacs cuz the story gets better and better. I'm having a lot of fun experiencing the story again through him; I haven't seen most of this stuff since it was released.
The fact that he’s progging these fights and at min ilvl will serve him well in the future because he’s being forced to deal with and learn mechanics that will pop up again and aid in his understanding of future fights.
I'm excited. I really respect Asmongold putting in the effort to experience everything in ff14. Honestly, he may end up getting a fuller experience than me and most people who joined later on by doing everything min item level. By the time he reaches end game, he'll be the most qualified person to assess the game if he continues like this.
Definitely agree. In my opinion, I think he'll be ready when he clears A1-A12s, O1-O12s, and E1-E12s. If he can clear those with making a decent static along the way, then I think he'll be ready for the Ultimate fights. But even then, it'll take him some time to even clear even one of the fights.
@@LihoShammy this is straight up false. Second coil does have a Savage difficulty and the regular coils are below heavenswards Savage difficulty for sure. They only become more comparable in the newer expansions where the fights have lowered in difficulty for the base Savage especially the early fights of each tier

Most players (including many big dick endgame chads) have never even attempted these fights level synced, let alone at minimum ilvl without echo. The fact that he's willing to prog these fights blind at all is a major flex and has earned him insane amounts of respect from the XIV playerbase.
If only he was a DPS. The Amount of shit the DPS are doing in the background is probably grinding their sanities
It helps that character aside he seems to be genuinely having fun
It's less about you that it is about him. He can queue any content and have his group filled. With experienced players or players willing to learn for the duration of his stream. You try this now, and no one will join your game. I bet your ass your static also won't bother doing this, the amount of headache is not worth the time investment for most people. If you have time to fool around, you have time to max your relic or reclear ultimates.
But his stream is fun, because even though you aren't going to do this in your life span, you can experience the prog and the clear live, or on vod. Which makes this really amazing for both new and old players.
@@PewPewSol I've literally progged these fights synced for fun on my data center and my PF only took 40 or so minutes to fill up. There's even entire discords dedicated to running old content min ilvl w/o echo.
Asmon got his parties instantly filled but it's not exactly hard to get a group together to run this shit for fun. Especially right now when we're in the pre-expansion lull.
lmao pls. this is content actual endgame chads grinded for last time before it was nerfed. and seriously, tanking is not even close to be the hardest thing to do in earlier raids. most of the responsibilities lie on the healers and dps. those were times with cleric stance and bringing in a summoner just to have an extra res in case healer dies.
plus, his members have experience or remembers some of it. its not like he's doing it with 8 sprouts. progression is guaranteed. considering his mass experience in MMOs, obviously he will clear it lol. the problem last time was DPS checks and gear. Sometimes casters need to slot in vit accessories just to survive better.
of course I'm not downplaying his achievements. Its great. but don't pin the friction to ffxiv community. its the NA COMMUNITY and WOW community. We asian players dgaf. more players = more fun tbh. dont know what you guys are complaining about.

@@Sheroloxusing them as early as possible isn’t a bad thing. This allows you to use them more often in the fight. Using your CDs 4 times a fight is better than using them 2 or 3.
What I love the most about these streams is even when they're wiping, he never blames or singles out other players. He's surprisingly positive and if someone makes a mistake, well, shit happens. Even he makes mistakes and owns up to them.

i think he mentinoed in the WoW 9.1 raid stream. He doesn't have any issues with people so long as they all know what they did wrong, including himself and try to NOT do that again considering that a lot of the players he pugs with have raid achievements and "always mess up in 15 year old mechanics".

@@Americanheld He did not know any mechanism, did not pop defense cooldown as needed, take a ton of extra damage which should be avoided. The reason he survived was that the healers are being nice and always shielded him. This is being carried.

I am so jazzed by the fact that Asmongold, whom I expected to think the entire FFXIV experience would be a slog, is *willingly* experiencing and learning the old raid content min ilevel no echo and legitimately enjoying it, story and all. He hasn't even made it to HW yet! I wish more people would play devil's advocate against their bias and play FFXIV like this, truly going out of their way to experience the game in it's entirety.

Iffin' you care, Nael's deal is that the original male Nael died on a mission his father sent him on. His little sister, Eula, snapped and killed EVERYONE who knew Nael died, then assumed her brother's identity to "keep him alive." She was already quite insane, and Bahamut's touch did not help.
So, back in 1.0 the main villain is the sister all along? That's... Very sad.
@@jedahaw Yeah, it's a story beat that doesn't mean much practically (enemy is actually his sister but always was doesn't mean anything, it's not like the real Nael died in 1.0, he died well before) but it humanises Euna/Nael a bit more that she's already mad with grief and that combined with her tempering has caused her to confuse even her own identity with the one she's taken on.

Imagine that, if you don't boost in this game and you actually take the time to learn the fights, mechanics and go through with some care and attention, you can have fun doing 8 year old content. And if you do boost, you just end up wiping on easy mode story content and resorting to lies and slander on twitter to cover your ass.
Tbf, you wouldn't get to experience coil like he gets too. I'm not saying you should boost if you're new, but even if you'd try to form a MINE party (minimum iLevel, no echo) you won't get a full party. If you do, it'll take hours or days

Finding friends in this game is not as easy as it sound, everyone is too serious and minding their own things when they played, been playing for weeks now as a sprout and I'm addicted even without the social aspect.

If you ever find an FC you can play comfortably with, that is great! But if you want to go at it solo, then thats fine too. Should never feel like you have to play the game in certain ways just because this group is doing it this way or that way and feel like you're in chains and restricted. Heh just something I usually say to newcomers when I greet them into the FC I'm in :3

Coils have always been quite challenging, especially compared to later Normal raids which were designed to make it easier for more casual players to clear, with the tough stuff in Savage. Coils were their first shot at this sort of content, so they still weren't sure how they wanted to approach it yet. At least compared to how consistent the framework of raid series from Alexander on were by comparison.

They are easier than they used to be for sure but things like a4s and a8s are still incredibly hard compared to the coils and stack up with pretty hard mechanical complexity without reading a guide. Item sync does still give an advantage to a prog teams ilevel as well not even counting the changes to abilities and rotations being easier now.
It should be a lot of fun to watch regardless, asmon will be forced to learn a lot to get over those fights for sure.

@@MFxKuro I am well aware. They have removed a ton of low level abilities to simplify these levels of gameplay and the stat squishes and overall strength of abilities has reduced the difficulty from release. I have been playing the game since ARR launch and have cleared all content at release.
@@francoisturgeon1176 anyone can clear with enough time especially considering a lot of the people he has in his groups are very experienced good players that he doesn’t fully realize. I’m sure he will. Ultimates take a long amount of time to grind through even for good groups and take a lot more than 30 wipes. There isn’t really even compareable content in wow to them.

Unless you know how the fights work you can't really see how hard some of the other party members are working with the mechanics since the main tank really doesn't deal with any of them (until T9 though lol). Big props to Dominic for a saving a few runs with those clutch tank LBs though.
Tanking in this game is probably the easiest job in an encounter. That said, I can't wait until the day he sees Light Rampant for the first time. I still can't wrap my head around it.
@@Phryguye tanking in this game is not easy at high end game content. E6S, E8S, E12S are incredibly challenging tank fights and then there’s ultimates but those challenge every role equally IMO.

@@Lordoftheapes79 This is absolutely not a high end raid group, you can tell by their gear. But since this is old content and it's synced, you don't have to be a high end raid group to do it, you just have to know the mechanics of the fight.

Man it fills me with so much nostalgia seeing Coil done as it was meant to be. Sure it got a little nerf, but done this way, i feel like i did when my FC took me in there, and we progged the raid a little at a time until we stomped through it.
It's more than a little nerf. Even at min ilevel and no echo classes do more damage than they did in ARR. All potencies are higher, although it's hard to directly compare them across expansions, but just as an example every time a Warrior does a combo it ends in a 420 potency Storm's Eye or Path, which hits harder than Inner Beast does now at 350 potency, so they're basically using what used to be a big attack that took 5 stacks of rage every 3 gcds. Also tank stance and cleric stance are no longer things so tanks and healers do a lot more damage, and the useless stats of Accuracy and Parry have been replaced with Direct Hit and Tenacity. The accuracy is especially huge because you went from having a chance your attacks would just miss to having effectively infinite accuracy and all the points in accuracy on your gear became a chance to hit 25% harder for free.

@@mike4088 echo is automatically applied when the dungeon is capable of echo, for example, high-level dungeon except the latest one. (For example, Eden 9~12 Savage were first released in 5.4 and didn’t have echo at that time. They now have echo after 5.57)

Turn 9 (nael) took my static 12 hours to beat synced (across 6 weeks, with nobody having done them before), even with ilvl 130. It was so satisfying to finally beat. Hardest turn in all the coils imo. Bahamut came in 2nd place as far difficulty goes, Phoenix in 3rd place. so happy you are able to get so far in a single night
It was 2 nights, but still impressive. Turns 1-5 was first night and the rest on the second night. Back at it today (Saturday) he said.

@14:55 Technically those Turn 2 mobs aren't trash. They are part of the boss encounter, and the boss gains buffs for each one killed, but also cannot eat them later to gain their abilities. Earlier FF14 raid design was a bit weird sometimes. It does suck how much the encounter length gets padded by refighting 3+ minibosses though. By 2.1 or so, people were already doing an "Enrage Strat" where you waited out the main boss' enrage timer of ~12min or so because when enraged all it did was spam massively damaging but survivable AOE, letting players forego mechanics and race a big target dummy before healers went OOM.

The amount of jealous people are just laughable.
The guy literally just started playing this a handful of days ago. And is already clearing content at a difficulty the vast majority of players haven't done, and don't have a chance of doing. Not to mention it doing it all on the fly.
Sure, he wasn't playing 100% perfect, but was obviously and absolutely pulling his weight. If he wasn't picking up adds like he was, and responding to tank swaps and mitigation when needed, he would have died FAR more often.
Sure tanks don't carry in FFXIV, but they absolutely need to pull their weight.
He earned these kills, and played well enough. And was respectful and a good leader throughout. Admitting when he screwed up but staying optimistic. Literally what you want from a raid leader.

Dont get it twisted current raid content is not a pushover and was harder then (almost) anything I ever did in wow. T7 killed raid groups, T9 made mfs xfer off servers...

I hope that later on he can form a group of people who are also blind (maybe other streamers?) for at least some of the future raids. It doesn't have to be all, but doing that at least a couple of times would be nice to get the experience.

I think this is a real indication how the game has changed from launch. Minimum iLevel at Level 50 and not knowing the mechanics of a Turn would get your entire party killed every single time. These fights, while difficult, are much easier than when I ran them years ago.
Not sure what has changed. Maybe players do more damage at the same iLevel (due to restructuring of abilities) or maybe it got stealth nerfed, but the fact that he frequently had no idea what was going on and they still easily cleared speaks to that.
T9, at the absolute minimum, was the Static Breaker. Groups wiped on it for MONTHS at a time, and needed to know every mechanic to perfect levels of mastery to even have a chance of meeting the DPS check.
They actually did outright nerf T6-8 sadly, T9's untouched though.
I don't mind that he's getting carried by solid players so much, because it's refreshing to see all the content through a new players eyes. The joy and excitement is a pleasure to see!
He went back and beat Twintania on the 2nd or 3rd attempt (on his second zackrawrr stream) with a random group of sprouts.
@@pervognsen_bitwise granted he has 130 gear and echo. But at least he did the mechs wiht sprouts.
He's still going in blind and quickly adapting + doing his tank job ok despite streaming and everything. Kinda impressive. And the min ilvl no echo force everyone to be on the fence and not brutly overgearing fights.
@@taken6298 Endwalker is probably going to be some great content, if he's here for it, because then we are going to watch him learn along without the benefit of other people having prior fight knowledge. I think its safe to assume that he will be well versed in the encounter design language of the game by then.

not gonna lie, watching him clear this stuff really makes me nostalgic, all i can think of is my clears with my old FC, I may have fell out with them, but man... those were good ol days. It's nice to see him clear.
People keep forgetting how skilled Asmon because of the character he puts on when streaming, but you gotta remember he has been a top raider since TBC and still a top Mythic raider.
Going blind into those raids min ilvl no echo and quickly adapting is proof enough, even if most of his party are seasoned veterans.

The content is easier than was when original released, for example on T5, on that time wouldn't be possible to win with so many people dying there like they win here. Even so, Asmongold is skilled for sure.
He is doing a great job no question, id love to see him try second coil savage tho. Those fights have not been nerfed so the only buff you will get is the fact that jobs are simply stronger than they where in Arr.
@@chinsehatori5815 well i have no doubt he will be capable if he wants too I think saying he will easily kill all ultimates is a bit much. Those fights take a good amount of prog and it takes a bit of time to get new players through them.

For the sake of not enraging a scholar or a white mage, when you see something on the floor, circular, that shines with a blueish glow? stand in. The Scholar's Sacred Soil mitigates a 10% of the damage received only if you're insire (and later on it will regenerate your health), The White Mage's Asylum will apply a regen while you stay in and you will get a bigger heal of every spell (including more optent shields and regens). That you'd help your healers not needing to heal and allowing them to DPS

Massive props to Asmon for perseverance. Having a team of people who know the raid is obviously a massive boon of course, but this is on minimum ilvl, no echo...and synced, basically release day difficulty almost.
Nael Van Darnus is what many were waiting for.....and after that, Bahamut Prime will be a trial and a half. The funny thing is Asmon isn't even fighting Nael on her hardest difficulty for that fight alone, the entire of second coils has a savage mode.

Yep. No tank stance, healers don't need cleric stance, Accuracy and Parry were replaced with stats that actually do damage, and that's not even touching the generally higher potencies now.

i've done turn 1 and 2 with min ilvl and no echo with my fc mates and its brutal. right now we're stuck in turn 5. Wipes upon wipes but the feelings of achievement after you finish the boss is enormous. Had fun playing the coils in the hardest difficulty.
These boss battle themes are so epic, really hypes you up even as a viewer.
Final Fantasy, no, Square Enix has always deliver excellent music since 1985.

Remember guys, these are nerfed 2nd coil fights. Final Coil and 2nd Coil Savage will be the real challenges. but so far, he's doing really good, although, I wish he went as a DPS. it would've been hilarious
final coil was mocked by the community for being 'too easy' compared to second coil back in the day, and the outcry of 'we want challenging raids SE' was what led to gordias being a cockstomper of a tier, second coil savage might be interesting if he does those, but final coil won't be as much of a challenge as you might expect
as for gordias at minimum item level, well, a streamer called ferro has a group has been trying it blind, and it is still, as asmon would put it, a cock
Even 2nd coil and final coil are nerfed. If he tries this in savage expansion raids it will take way longer

I love that Asmongold is enjoying XIV and I'm even more glad that he's taking the time to follow the story and enjoying it. And if he enjoys the story so far in ARR he'll really enjoy it going through the other expacs cuz the story gets better and better. I'm having a lot of fun experiencing the story again through him; I haven't seen most of this stuff since it was released.
Watching these really allows me to relive my XIV glory days from years ago. Miss it so much. Great time.
The fact that he’s progging these fights and at min ilvl will serve him well in the future because he’s being forced to deal with and learn mechanics that will pop up again and aid in his understanding of future fights.
I'm excited. I really respect Asmongold putting in the effort to experience everything in ff14. Honestly, he may end up getting a fuller experience than me and most people who joined later on by doing everything min item level. By the time he reaches end game, he'll be the most qualified person to assess the game if he continues like this.

Coils of Bahamut didn't have Savage difficulty modes. They just had some fights that were Savage difficulty from the start.
Definitely agree. In my opinion, I think he'll be ready when he clears A1-A12s, O1-O12s, and E1-E12s. If he can clear those with making a decent static along the way, then I think he'll be ready for the Ultimate fights. But even then, it'll take him some time to even clear even one of the fights.
@@LihoShammy this is straight up false. Second coil does have a Savage difficulty and the regular coils are below heavenswards Savage difficulty for sure. They only become more comparable in the newer expansions where the fights have lowered in difficulty for the base Savage especially the early fights of each tier
