    A powerful communicator renowned for her musical scope and versatility, Brazilian-American Clarice Assad is a significant artistic voice in the classical, world music, pop, and jazz genres. The Grammy Award-nominated composer, celebrated pianist, inventive vocalist, and educator is acclaimed for her evocative colors, rich textures, and diverse stylistic range.
    Assad’s piece “Bohemian Queen” rounds out the first half of our concert Mavericks and is inspired by the life and surrealist art of American painter, Gertrude Abercrombie, known as “the queen of the bohemian artists.” The piece will feature guest trumpet soloist Mary Elizabeth Bowden who originally premiered the work on November 20, 2022 with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra.
