  • This is my review of the Antop AT-415B Omni Directional TV Antenna. It claims to receive TV stations up to 65 miles away, 360 degree coverage, plus features a built in amplifier and 4G LTE filter. How well does it work compared to several directional antennas I’ve tested out in the past?

I really enjoyed all the antennas you reviewed. Especially the one I still have the LAVA Omni pro 8008 one. It’s a omnidirectional as well from where I live it’s doing the job I get 35 channels . Fox is really strong now and also ION tv . I never hardly got those channels . Have a good new year .

I bought this same antenna months ago with the intention of seeing whether it was as good as the review I'd read. I had 60 days to return it if not. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get it mounted at a good height, but recently hooked it up in the house for the second TV in the bedroom. I get a few local channels and even Fox 29 from Philly. Ultimately it worked with the Mediasonic DVR box that I'd bought and I'm able to record some shows that I'd like to watch, but which are on at awkward times. Sometimes its the little things that make your day! And now I get to watch westerns which I never watched as a kid.

I wish you had this video out 5 days ago. I went to my brother in laws house on Christmas and he had this antenna. It was great. Hopefully it will work for me too. I went to antenna Web. Org and sure enough the majority of my stations are 30 miles away in the same direction. So if this doesn't work at least I cam go get a directional one that will. Thanks for your great instruction. Happy New Year Tyler.

I had a King Jack RV antenna that I removed from my travel trailer. I attached it to a 6’ pole and attached that to my roof ... (where my old Dish was). The run of cable was about 50’ but the King Jack is amplified. I was able to pick up 30 channels. It’s worth noting my house is surrounded by trees. I would like to hook up a couple more tv’s and am pretty certain I will need a powered splitter but I’m wondering if that will interfere with the amplified power supply for the King Jack antenna.

My at-414 Antop antenna works better than almost all antennas I have owned in the past. It might be because I live in Vegas area. I Have owned the Channel master, pingbingbong and boostwave and all worked well for about 3 months and the I had signal problems after that. I have had the Antop AT-414b for over a year and no problems. I pickup 64 english channels and several latino stations. Thank you for my input... Edward

I have 3 basic directions for channels I want to pick up. Some one told me that I could mount 3 directional antennas as long as they are separated 2 Ft vertically. I wounder If I could just use 2 basically 180 degrees from each other. Would there be significant losses fro combiners? would a pre-amp be significantly impacted by 2-3 individual antennas? The two areas of coverage in the rear are about 45 deg apart.

Hey man, I appreciate the test. Could you offer a guess as to how much better this would be than the factory equipped CB antennas semi trucks use? Surely just about dedicated TV antenna will be more resonant but I'd be curious as to how much of a difference it would make.
In my short time on the road I've picked up loads in some pretty rural locations, like no signal from Verizon levels of desolation lol. Being stuck with one, sometimes two channels with limited programming on either one was a bummer.

Got one similar on Ebay $50 from Prime Cables. I am in the middle of 40 channels in all directions. 25 - 50 miles. Antenna is 50 feet up and strong signals on channels I need. Some French language and religious stations that I will never watch. It works well for local content. IPTV for the rest. Good bye $100 a month for cable.
Posting a day later, I looked up the specs on that Antop, 15 inch diameter. The one I got is 19 inch diameter, a bit bigger. It is rated for 75 mile range. Looks to be a better build in quality as well.

I have this antenna, but it was extremely underwhelming (one of my "experiments"). It still lives in the attic, but it has trouble with a lot of multi-path interference. My outdoor roof Channel Master CM-4228HD pointed in the right direction solved all previous problems as well as receiving additional channels I couldn't get before with indoor/attic setups. Needless to say, I never looked back.

      Practical and Useful Information.
Peter Chase is correct , attics will obstruct and degrade reception.
Mounting antenna above the roof of the house and in the clear of all obstructions between the transmitter towers antenna/s and the receiving antenna ( known as L.O.S. Line Of Sight ) will provide the best reception.

I've tried directional antennas where I live. They don't work where I live. When I turn the direction I lose channels no matter what direction I turn it. My channels are no more than 60 miles away from my home. I have had an omnidirectional Channel Master up-in-the-air since 2002. I pick up all of my channels in my area with the old antenna. I have tried several antennas since then trying to replace it. So far nothing is as good as what I have in the air

    Tyler,
I have this antenna, and it has worked better than most directional antennas, even though I'm surrounded by alot of tall trees.
Although a bit cheaply produced, the included amplifier is the key to drawing in more signal.
Also, I've nnoticed that this antenna does have directional orientation, just not as much as traditional ones.

      Truth and Quality.
      Practical and Useful Information.
Yes is true , omni directional antennas are not 100% omni directional. When a reception pattern is provided in the technical information when provided , the reception is not 100% omni directional.
So turning the antenna can improve reception , once turn direction is set then reception will be Ok in as much as the antenna can receive.

Though I've had good luck with a 5star direction antenna, I tried out a 5Star omni. Funny that it's an "Omni directional" but they recommend you face the part of the disc where the coax connects to the bottom of the antenna. Bottom line, it picked up 16 stations from my attic, where I have a FLAT window style antenna on my back porch tv that picks up the same 16 channels. My conclusion, a $15 antenna picks up the same number of stations a $70 antenna did. Hooked up my same DIRECTIONAL 5Star that I was using, got back my 30 stations.

Was just checking on some info I typed and saw your comment.
I install here in Southern Ontario.
Here is the parts I would use to make a good antenna system.
Start with mounting your antenna up high as possible. And that's not on a chimney or tripod on the roof.
www.wadeantenna.com has a low cost bracketed tower the GN Series with are 10 feet long, get the 16 Gauge model (with stands more wind) 18 Gauge model is light.
If your house is a bungalow use 30 feet of tower, if it's a 2 story house use 40 feet of tower.
Will need 2 to 3 sections of straight tower with one end section. You will see the specs.
The reason you want to get up high because the earth is round, general Reception range is 70 miles. Being on a tower gives you more Reception range could be 90 to 110 miles or greater. The higher you can mount the better.
Next I would purchase the Channel Master CM7777 Preamp, Channel Master Rotor and Control Box, a VHF HI (channels 7 to 13) Antenna from Stellar Labs the Deepest Fringe one possible, two UHF Digiwave Yagi type Antennas Model # ANT2190.
Use a RG11 coaxial cable as your main feed line to the preamp part by your antennas. Two UHF Yagis and the Stellar Labs VHF antenna will feed into a 3 into 1 splitter which will feed into the preamp. From preamp go down the tower into the house, coaxial cable should be grounded before entering house. Cable is now fed under the floors to the back of the tv. A power supply for the preamp outside is connected to the incoming main feed line. The power supply is plugged in 120 volts, and back of power supply is connected to tv with RG6 coaxial cable.
Also will run rotor cable down tower into the house to control rotor which will turn antennas at the top of the tower.
This system will give you a Kick Ass System. The rotor will allow you to tune into other Cities and find the Channels your interested in watching.
If you need more info email me at:
      OTA.Antennas.Towers@gmx.com
Note: I tested the Digiwave UHF Antenna ANT2190 against the best 8 bay antenna on market the Antennas Direct DB8e 8 bay.
The Digiwave got more channels then the DB8e
      Price difference: ANT2190 $70.00 and DB8e $189.00.
I would still use the DB8e for people concerned about boom length of a UHF Yagi Antenna.
Always use a Yagi where possible they are more directional to get a better signal.
8 bays or 4 bays do not have a lot of forward GAIN.
I got lots of Experience and I know what works and what does not.

Don't waste time and money. All these junk plastic garbage antennas will maybe bring in stations in a 30 mile radius if mounted high up.
But in the end they will bring disappointment.
As a viewer you want as many channels as you can get for Nothing! (No $ per month)
      Go to www.wadeantenna.com
      Get a 30 or 40 foot tower.
Then get a Channel Master CM7777 Preamp, Channel Master Rotor and Control Box, a Steller Labs Deepest Fringe Antenna they got for Channels (7 to 13) and two Yagi Digiwave ANT2190 UHF Antennas. Mount on top of the tower with a rotor and a three into one splitter to handle the signals from the antennas into the Preamp.

U Americans 🇺🇸have it better then Us Canadians🇨🇦. We pay an average of 30 to 35% higher for goods coming from the USA (exchange for American Dollar) then we got to pay a 13% HST tax at the border.
All the items I listed will be less in the United States.
The Tower is made in Canada 🇨🇦, so it will be cheaper then in Canada. But there are American Manufactures like Rohn and American Tower and others, just got to shop around.
As for other parts as mentioned, cheaper in the USA, Channel Master imports the Preamp and Rotor/Control Box in from China. They are based in Phoenix, AZ, can buy on Amazon.com or off there website. The Stellar Labs VHF Deepest Fringe Antenna is available from Stellar Labs less cost in the USA. The Digiwave ANT2190 UHF Antennas available on Amazon.com or Amazon.ca (I have no idea what a American would pay in taxes to Uncle Sam at the border or by shipping into the United States) could buy by mail from Canada 🇨🇦 but you would have to calculate all exchanges, taxes and shipping charges.

    • @Nicholas_Chris
      @Nicholas_Chris 4 года назад +2

There is no such thing as a 4K UHD ready antenna. Not even FULL HD or HD. The antenna receives the frequencies that is designed for. It can receive UHF or VHF or both. Even an antenna from the 70s or 80s can receive 4K signalls. It all depends by your TV or set top box.If your TV is 4K then you can get 4K channels doesn't matter if it's on cable or OTA. The reception also depends on the type of cable you use, I recommend RG6 coax cable it's far better than RG59. It can depend on the distance between your house and the broadcast tower in some cases you may need an amplifier.

    Truth and Quality.
    Practical and Useful Information.
The omni directional antenna shown in the video is designed to receive the new Tv transmitter/antennas
    because of ATSC 3.0.
Transmitting both horizontal and vertical polarization.
Well horizontal and vertical transmission in the USA is not really new , in the analog days was transmitted mostly on channel 6. Because the FM audio carrier was real close to the low end of the radio dial and received by FM radios.
Cars and such have vertical antennas. Portable radios have antennas that will be in any position.
The Tv transmissions then. And coming on line now are , right hand rotation.
circular clock wise , elliptical clock wise , or right hand helix.
So if you are of opinion that Tv transmissions in USA have always and only been horizontal polarization
    well now you know.
There is quite a bit information of Tv transmission on the internet now days.
Like the analog co channel transmissions , for example , channel 8 is transmitted vertical only ,
and channel 9 is transmitted horizontal only.
And a lot more Tv transmission information.
I am now 70 years old and I have many old books and magazines of radio and television.

An omni directional antenna isn’t good at all to be honest because in some cases there’s more than one station on the same frequency like WMEB and CKLT where I am. A directional antenna with vhf and uhf elements with a rotor is the best for getting as many stations as possible.

  • @Aswaguespack
    @Aswaguespack 4 года назад

With just about any decent antenna design height above average terrain is the most important factor in reception of any type of RF signal HF and up. The higher the antenna, directional or omnidirectional, the further it is able to “see” beyond the horizon. Achieving Maximum Height is very costly. My own long time experiences as a very active amateur radio operator and all the research done by generations of amateur operators with exotic and expensive “antenna farms” bears this out. Vertical antennas require much different set of design Parameters and that usually entails lots of usually lengthy radials requiring increased land area around the vertical to increase gain (usually also resulting in increased noise levels as well). At UHF frequencies the antennas will be much smaller in physical dimensions but increased height still the most important variable in developing an effective and efficient antenna to maximize signal strength.
I am assuming that all the antennas being tested are all tested and compared using the same height parameters. By increasing the height of any of the antennas being tested by a SIGNIFICANT value should also change test results. Most people will not be investing a significant amount of money into improving their OTA antennas in this way.

    • @AntennaMan
      @AntennaMan  4 года назад +1

All antennas with the exception of the indoor models are tested at the same height and location.

Antenna Man Yes I did assume that to be the case as your testing procedures and results you provide are done methodically and obviously are published by using the proper procedures for data collection. • @Aswaguespack
      @Aswaguespack 4 года назад

Google User Yes that could happen. However for those conditions to exist many factors would need to be place. For many listeners they may not have those criteria available at their home location.
Since 2009, the FCC ended the end of the analog TV broadcasting. Many stations began shifting to UHF frequencies with the new technologies that were developing.
As has been previously noted and well explained herein these videos, most TV
Stations are now broadcasting on UHF frequencies and not VHF.
There are very specific differences in how frequencies behave in the UHF spectrum.
At UHF Terrain Masking, Ground Clutter, and Signal degrading as distance increases greatly affects the strength of signal at the reception location. At about 20 miles in distance from the transmitting antenna the signal can experience as much as 12 dB loss and increasing as distance increases.
At UHF frequencies buildings and building materials can affect and block UHF signals. An 8” thick concrete wall of a large building will attenuate a signal 21 dB and even plywood and asphalt singles can degrade a UHF signal 5-6 dB.
From otadtv.com “An antenna mounted 30 feet above the ground in a flat open field with a clear line-of-sight and directly aligned to the broadcast tower could receive a signal near or greater than expected. In practice a 3 - 6 dB additional loss is not uncommon. Signal path clutter and indoor antenna's will have greater loss. Terrain could introduce more loss.”
Here’s an excellent article with some established science behind the behavior of signals at UHF.
