Anything 40+ is truly a great squid. I have seen some touching 60cm land based at one of my spots but never been one lucky enough to get one that big.

Same here the other day but off the beach tho ha ha ... i luv recognising all his spots ha ha but ive realised he is the man ! Ha ha i fish same spots and im no where near as good at catching ha ha ha ha

Go for the 50 plus Nev. My best was 48 on pilchard while whiting fishing. I was using a light snapper outfit and it pulled plenty of drag. Can't wait to see how much a 50cm one will tear line off with your light outfits. Should be great.

I'm watching this imagining how nice it will taste battered, crumbed or a quick fry in butter. My wife asked who's cleaning out the ink stains on your clothes. Ahh, the fisherman sees one thing and the mum sees the other.

gday mate a couple of years ago i was out in my tinne at a renown squid area and bagged out on those horses ,must just been my lucky day but they were huge ,really pissed of the pro squidder he was circling me like a shark and every time i hooked one id yell out " YES GOT ANOTHER ONE " just to annoy him p****k .

Congrats on the 40 cm stonker! 'd like to see you fishing somewhere a bit different. Perhaps a 2 day camp out where you catch and cook? You could possibly get some sponsors that will supply you with fishing and camping gear to show your viewers...

Last squid I almost caught was so keen to get away he ripped his tentacle off, thats what was still hooked on my jig.
Hey Nev I love your channel! Do you notice any difference in the flavour of large squid compared to smaller squid like people find in crayfish?
I’m not nev but I’ll answer your question, the bigger ones are usually a bit worse not only coz the flesh is chewier but because it’s ALOT thicker and makes for rings that are too thick, perfect size for cooking for me is about 20-30 cm
@@hugekingkibblefan6980 Thankyou I have the exact same theory! For bigger squid I stuff the tubes as slow cook in a tomato based sauce because it helps make it less chewy!

Keep what you can eat in one dinner and release the rest. My personal rule is i can’t go out again unless the freezer is empty of squid. That 40cm was truly a donkey!
