- With a late night arrival on a flight from Helsinki, it was great waking up to an early dose of Winter with all the snow around (this was in October).
After an amazing breakfast at the Lapland Hotels Sky Ounasvaara, it was time to do some exploring.
First task, to warm the car up as it was below freezing, oh, and managed to get a nice little upgrade from Avis the night before. Instead of a VW Golf, or Skoda, I was given a nice new BMW 118i.
Once on the road, it wasn't long before I arrived at the home of Christmas, Santa Claus Village, and the gateway to the Arctic Circle.
Truth be known, I only really went there as they have an Arabia, Iittala, Pentik & Marimekko store there... easy way to tick off the shopping list on one hit.
No time to say hello to Santa, so back to the hotel, then for a walk on the Winter Hiking trail right at the hotel, and up to the Lookout Tower.
Even with a few families grilling some sausages in the fire pits, the silence was refreshing.
Back to the hotel, and spent some time chilling out near the fireplace in the lobby enjoying a Hot Chocolate (well 2 actually).
Having stayed at the Sky Ounasvaara hotel back in June, the difference was amazing, one visit 24hr sunlight, then the next, a Winter Wonderland, and Winter was still 6+ weeks away.

Thank you. Most of the video was recorded with an iPhone 14 Pro Max and some with a Lumix S5iiX Camera.
I just booked this hotel for next October 24 for my family as a Christmas gift. Is it possible to see lights in late October and a bit of snow
This video was Mid-October, and there was plenty of snow. I also uploaded another video regarding the Northern Lights which were amazing. The hotel has a viewing deck on the roof, you can see the Northern Lights from up there, but it is a lot better if you can get out of town a bit to eliminate light pollution from the city and surrounding buildings.@@joanne9963
I've booked late October this year, a little worried we won't get snow. How was it around santa village and other parts of rovaniemi?
Late October is very likely to have some snow in all areas, maybe not a few feet deep, but there should be some. This video was taken in mid October, a few days after I left whilst I was in Helsinki they had a few days of heavy snow. I will be back there in the first week of November, hoping the Northern Lights put on a show which is expected this coming Winter.
Appreciated. I'm going Rovaniemi/Lapland with my daughter from 24th to 28th so hoping there is some snow and might try northern lights if the conditions are good.
