Roxanne -- you are amazing -- clear explanation and great visuals. You are one of my three go-tos since my knitting teacher/mentor/friend died in Dec. 2021. I can't thank you enough!
Sending money to thank you! You saved a wedding shawl I'm knitting for my twin, I was so stressed about the YOs and your advice makes fixing them straightforward.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you enough except for monetarily tipping you which I swear I am going to have to budget into my next paycheck at this point. You've saved my last three projects, and that's no exaggeration!
Roxanne I can’t thank you enough for posting these videos! Of all the teachers who post, you are the one I know I can rely on to give more details, great demos, and a wonderful overview. THANKS! You’ve saved me countless times!
Hallelujah! Thank you so much for this. I am making my first lace project (shawl) and have started over 5 times because of simple YO mistakes I didn't know how to fix...until now!
I watched this video 2 years ago and I just watched it again as a refresher. This is such a fantastic video Roxanne. I recently bought some bigger dpns for making swatches to practice these techniques. This will be my first one on these new needles. When I learned Judy’s Magic Cast on with your tutorial I used a large circular and just kept practicing. This advice you give about swatching to practice is invaluable! Best advice ever! Thank you Roxanne!🤗🤗. I’m starting to like swatching and practicing almost as much as working on a project!
So clear!!!! I had spent 1 hr messing up my seed stiches mistakes (making them worse) and only five minutes redoing them properly using your excellent techniques and explanations. Roxanne, you rock!
Thank you SO much! I have a full skein of yarn knit into my first shawl (3 more skeins to go) and noticed my yarn overs shifted. And then shifted back 🙄. Sigh. This video has given me peace of mind. Though I am still putting this bugger into time out for a bit. Lots of love from the Pacific Northwest 🧡
This exact pattern is my very first lace pattern I happen to be working on. I am currently swatching but it is full of little mistakes. The hard part is identifying the problem before I get too far. I have a crochet hook on standby now. Thanks!
I’ve just started lace knitting and I’ve been struggling mostly with missed yarn overs, and consequently tinking back! Glad to know I don’t have to if I catch them quickly! Thanks for the video - it’s a great help!
Another rocking video Rox. Thank you for another excellent example of what happens when you....(fill in the blanks) and how to fix it. Reading lace stitches is a challenge for a beginner like myself. This would be an excellent technique series if you are so inclined. So appreciate your coaching.
Your videos are really, really clear and helpful! You've helped me with problems many, many times when I think it's probably hopeless. Thank you! You're wonderful!
Do you have a video of how to pick up a missed or dropped yarn-over in the tradional dishcloth (garter stich pattern)? With this garter stitch pattern, I have a hard time finding and "fixing" the yarn-over!! Thanks!
Roxanne, you are a rockstar! Just had an error where I was one stitch short. Figured out from watching your video previously that it was a missed yarn over and now knew how to go back and fix it on the purl row. Thanks for all your fabulous videos!
THANK YOU! This is my main problem with lace knitting! I have tried to do some of these techniques without success, but I'm sure I was doing it wrong! I may be able to be successful at lace knitting now!
Great video Roxanne! I just had this issue last Wednesday when I was in class. I was working on a scarf with brioch knit stitch and some skps. I ended up with 1 extra stitch. I figured that it was an extra yarn over and was going to just slip it off when I got to that stitch. But no, I had to try and tink back. Big mistake! Luckily my teacher worked her magic and fixed it. What could have been an easy fix turned into a disaster. I spent my whole class working on this mess that I was originally just working on to keep busy while she worked with new students. Good lesson learned. I’m so happy you posted this. Your instruction is so clear! Thanks!
Thanks so much love the way you explain the various types to correct the problem . Very clear and simple. I'm a newbie in knitting and I made a lot of them. I really enjoyed your work and teaching 😊. God bless you. Wishing you a happy Christmas 🎄. Saludos Ana
Hi Thanks for posting these informative videos but I have an additional question on what to do. I’m knitting a hat in English rib. I’ve never tried English rib before and end up with mistakes here and there that I’ve been trying to fix. I can’t find a video of how to fix forgotten or dropped yarns over in English rib, don’t think it’s quite the same as I sometimes end up with a hole in the knitting which is completely unwanted. Have you got a video somewhere that I can watch?
I hadn't heard of English rib, before (stitch patterns often have multiple names). It sounds like it's the same as Brioche. You might try looking for videos on fixing mistakes in Brioche, instead. I don't have any videos on that topic.
Ok I was so glad to learn this technique, however my problem is when I'm happily knitting along and see that I have an inadvertent yarn over that made a hole in my stockinette stich. Is there any way to fix this or just the way I do now, which is to close it later with a needle and yarn? I will likely not rip back 100 rows for this error
For something that far down, I think your solution is a good one. I do have a video that covers this scenario. ruclips.net/video/sjKdFg9AHXo/видео.html
New to laddering down. Working on a top down cardigan with raglan increase of yo, k1, yo. I knit across with the increases and purl back not increasing on the purl side. When I am fixing my yo mistake 8 rows down and coming up the ladder, do I put yo in every row or every other row. The purl row would not get the yo. I am getting too many stitches so I am thinking I should only put the yo back on the needle every other row.. Is this correct?
If you're supposed to create a YO every other row, then when you ladder down, you will also so create a YO every other row as you ladder back up. You create the YO on one row, and you work it on the next.
@@RoxanneRichardson Thank you for the response. I was so frustrated when I wrote the message but came back later and knew I had answered it myself. I so enjoy learning from watching all your videos. They just make sense....
If you're using the app on a mobile device, you can search RUclips for the technique including my name in the search. If you're using a browser, you can go to my channel home page, where you will find a channel search box to the right of the list of choices for the channel (the line that says HOME VIDEOS SHORTS PLAYLISTS COMMUNITY). To get to the channel page, click on my channel name (Roxanne Richardson) under any video of mine that you might have been watching. The search box at the top of the screen is to do a general RUclips search, not a channel search. Another alternative is to select PLAYLISTS from that list of channel options and see if there is a playlist that might include a likely video.
Thank you so much for sharing these tips for fixing the yarn over mistakes. It's really helpful because I'm currently studying a new stitch (the chevron lace stitch) and I sometimes forget the yarn over... So thank you very much 😘😘😘
I have a question 🙋♀️ I’m a total knitting beginner. I’m making a shawl which has knit stitches on both sides with increases put in regularly on the right side, but which I have to twist on the wrong side. I only just noticed I must have forgotten to do a twist on one of the passes and have a hole 6 rows down. Can I use this technique with the “ladder” technique (I think that’s what you called it) to fix it?
In the unhappy process of tinking back to correct a mistake, I somehow created another mistake by dropping 3 yarn overs (in a column), in another section of my lace pattern. I can find instructions to fix the lowest yarn over, but have no clue or answers on fixing and attaching the 2 above the fixed one. Do I have to tink back 2 rows to fix these, or (please Lord!), is there a way to gain control of this yarn over "ladder"? (I'm knitting in the round...with 400+ stitches!😢
Oh this is a tricky fix 🤦🏼♀️ I forgot my yo and tried to ladder down and fix it myself before watching your video and now I am just all mixed up 😂 love your videos though. They have helped me when I’ve been in a bind so many times! Most fix videos go over basic fixes and don’t help me.
Ma'am I owe you so much for showing me how that I can just let those excess YOs go and not ruin my lacework!! I just keep making that mistake with the working yarn, and even though I'll still have to go back and manually tighten the gaps it's still SO much easier than tinking back 144 stitches.
K2T, YO. I’ve unraveled a column of K2T YO down 20 stitches and need help in getting these ladder like column fix so that it’s correct. I believe I missed a YO causing the issue. I unraveled and now need help.
Great explanation Rox. Comes in handy for old shale lace patterns etc where you can easily drop or omit a yarn over! BTW is your favourite colour blue? I see you wear that colour a lot in your videos! Regards.
I think that's my only blue shirt. I do have a number of teal shirts, and a couple of green sweaters, but the green doesn't always come across in the video, so other people often think they are blue. My favorite color is actually red. I have quite a few winter tops/sweaters that are red, fuchsia or purple, but only one red t-shirt for summer.
Technically, it can be done, but you have to squeeze a new column of sts between existing sts, using the yarn in the running thread that connects those sts. It's very tight.
Hi Roxanne, I was just trying to buy you a coffee but the link above is not working right now. Are you aware of this, or is there a reason? Let me know please. Katy

I was glad to see that I was doing these fixes correctly on my own.
Could you make a video on decreasing knitted lace sleeve caps please.
