I like American style cruisers best (Indian and Harley owner here) but I have to give credit where it's due here. Honda did a great job. Can't knock the Gold Wing.
I have a 2018 Road Glide Special. It has 35k miles on it now and it’s left me stranded the last three road trips. No way is it acceptable for mechanical and electrical problems after only 35k miles. All scheduled service done on time by the dealer. I’m buying a Gold Wing this spring. I’m not a fan of metric bikes but I’m even less a fan of being broke down on the side of the highway 200 miles away from the nearest Harley service bay. 😂
Reminds me of an old Honda ST1100, it took 40 minutes to remove all plastic before you could do any real maintenance on it (yes - oil filler, air filter, spark plugs, oil change, shaft drive oil change).
Air Filter replacement on the 2018+ Goldwings are a 4 hour or so job. They basically built the bike around the Air Filter and it's a relatively complex job with lot's of fairing plastic and clips that have to be removed. I'm not looking forward to that job but I will not pay $500.00 to a dealer to change an Air Filter ; )@@MOTOBLADE
@@MrSkeptical ouch. Good to know. I agree, I wouldn't want to take it to a dealer for that either. Sounds like a whole evening in the garage just having fun on the bike with some snacks and a TV.
@@richardzollinger4750 I believe the Manual calls for Air Filter replacement at 16,000 miles. That recommendation would be under normal conditions and if in a more dusty or dirty environment you would of course replace sooner.
If you're man sized with a 35"+ inseam make sure you have a test ride before buying as you'll find your knees are jammed against the bodywork just where it's at it's sharpest. The only thing that stopped me buying unfortunately.
"Man sized"? 😂 Pretty sure I'm a man (yep, just double-checked, family jewels and all) and I have a 30" inseam. Great video, you explain everything well, easy and simple, thanks again, I think u have one of the best reviews on Goldwing, so fo u think I would like it? BTW, I would think this bike would be great for an older rider
Road both the Goldwing and the Goldwing Tour at Americade 2022 demo rides, have been a Harley guy for 40 years but the DCT and light weight would certainly let you ride 10 years longer, will be my next bike and as far as the demo rides we we’re moving! as the leader told me he drives at the ability of the slowest rider as he is told to keep a tight line, I enjoy the demo ride but half way through the twisty he slow up as some rider we’re not keeping up.
Glad you made it to Americade! If you see me next year, stop me and say hi! Those Gold Wing demo slots went fast didn't they? Had to get there early to sign up.
I had a 2018 manual Wing but it was totaled by a coyote running out and tearing half the bike off. I rode a brand new DCT and it was nice but I like a manual better. I also just rode a 2012 BMW K1600 which had no problem doing a wheelie and seemed capable of whipping the pants off the Honda in a drag race. Unfortunately, it felt like riding a race horse which is fun but I want something that is comfortable riding all day long when touring. It's not perfect but the engineers at Honda have come up with an incredible machine and I'm going to find another one.
Not highwaybars, like a skidplate. I cracked my engine case a few days ago. Leaking oil now. Honda is telling me over $12k to fix it. Others have had the shift shaft boss get broken off the case. Catastrophic.

Thanks for the sub! Glad you found the video helpful. I liked the gold wing quite a bit, and while I'm an Indian guy myself, I can certainly see the appeal.
The newer K1600's have reverse (i think '16+) and if you run across an '18+ Star Venture with the air-cooled V-twin (not many out there.... i think they already stopped making them) you'll see a reverse.
@@MOTOBLADE yeah, I wouldn't think they would. The Eluder was a one year flop and the Venture is wishy-washy weather or not they're going to continue to make it. I'm just curious to see what they do. Ride safe brother.
I definitely think SPG is higher on a boss hoss, those things are insane! Makes sense that it has reverse too, those engines on the hoss are heavy, would hate to walk that backwards.
Is it easy to put a duffle bag in the backseat space? I don’t want a tour pack. Is it relatively eash o strap around a duffle bag in the back? Somehow I’ve never seen one doing this. @motoblade
Didn't try so I can't say for sure, but it seems like there would be plenty of room. I don't know how easy it would be to strap down though as I didn't see many points to which you could attach...
Plenty of room if you're a solo rider and don't need to bring the kitchen sink. I like the look of the non tour better so opted for that one. I rode from california to south dakota and had plenty of space for a tent sleeping bag, etc. I do have the honda factory tail rack.
New Hondas are vaporware around here. I got in touch with a dealer about getting on the list for an NC750x, and he said they "are pre-sold out of that model."
What is this new "pre-selling" bull crap? Dealership used to get the bike, you would walk in and buy it. First come first serve. How it should be. That's just not right.
They shut a plant down back in 09 and people thought it was the end of the gold wing, yet here we are. I'm not believing the rumors. It's one of the most popular bikes of all time.
Hi there. I've been à fan of Goldwings for many years, however I don't currently own à motorcycle at all. The last bike I owned was a 1998 Honda ST1100 Pan European which I sadly destroyed when I suffered a stroke with no warning, on 30th of December 2018.and am now unable to ride a conventional motorcycle, due to being paraplegic with sever weakness in my left leg, but total paralysis in my left arm, which means that I can neither pull à clutch lever, but, would also seriously struggle to operate a gearshift lever too! So, in this respect, the Honda DCTsystem make it theoretically possible for me to ride again. I only got my bike licence in 2014, but have ridden approximately 180 thousand miles on bikes in that time. Currently, I'm trying to find someone that would like to either give me a Goldwing GL1800 TOUR DCT, or sell me one at à seriously stupidly cheap price, that I can afford,as(due to my disability, it is very unlikely that I will ever work as a mechanic again!!! I'm really not picky about it either, as,I would very gladly accept à Goldwing of any volour. But, if I could choose, it would ha e to be a Candy Ardent Red one, qs the side covers on my electric wheelchair are almost the exact same colour!! Also(as I can no longer walk) I would love to get a trailer in matching colour, that I could put my wheelchair onto, so that I can still get around wherever it is that I go to on it. And, believe me, after not even sitting on a bike since myaccident, I cannot wait to once again be able to go to wherever I want to go!! I've also had a bit of a crap few years, as my dad passed away from bowel cancer two years ago my mum died from a cancer related brain tumeur in 2009 and my wife( of 28 years) and I que currently going through divorce I am unable to live by myself as I need help from a carer to do a lot of things each day, so have been told that I would not be permitted to live by myself, so need to move out of the wheelchair friendly bungalow where we currently live, once the divorce is finalised and official!
Still liketo shift, tour model: higher windshield, centerstand, electronic suspension adjustment, heated driver and passenger seat, trunk, don't like the new seat height (29) as opposed to lower models 2017 and under, wish the handlebars were adjustable, heli bars are $1000.00, the red doesn't go with blue and black lol, other than that ,luv the bike, BTW you don't need to get into tight maneuver s with the dct, you have forward and reverse walking mode!
Makes sense. I can do it just fine with my forward controls on the Indian and harley as well, but I admit it is a little easier to hop up when they're directly underneath of you. Thanks for watching ✌🏻
Lots of dealerships are adopting this no test ride policy. I hope they lose their business. If I'm going to buy something, I MUST ride it first. If you're interested in it, it's worth making a trip to a dealership that'll let you do a test ride first. Only way to know for sure.

BMW R19 (and possibly others) have an optional reverse gear. Great video!
Reminds me of an old Honda ST1100, it took 40 minutes to remove all plastic before you could do any real maintenance on it (yes - oil filler, air filter, spark plugs, oil change, shaft drive oil change).
I watched a guy do maintenance on one of those, looked like an absolute pain in the ass.
Air filter is the only difficult regular maintenance item. Honda recommends every 12,000 miles.
@@richardzollinger4750 I believe the Manual calls for Air Filter replacement at 16,000 miles.
That recommendation would be under normal conditions and if in a more dusty or dirty environment you would of course replace sooner.
Seems like the bar height should line up with the mirrors.
Really help on those cold days!
“Excellent review!!”
Larry
That and some heated grips! Once I got heated grips, I had no idea how I ever lived without them. Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching ✌🏻
If you're man sized with a 35"+ inseam make sure you have a test ride before buying as you'll find your knees are jammed against the bodywork just where it's at it's sharpest. The only thing that stopped me buying unfortunately.
Good to know! Thanks for contributing!
"Man sized"? 😂 Pretty sure I'm a man (yep, just double-checked, family jewels and all) and I have a 30" inseam. I always get a kick out of guys who think because they're tall they are somehow more of a man. I've met many a tall dude who let his lady tear up his man card..... including one who used to carry his wife's purse for her (not for convenience but rather to emasculate him).
Is the cruise control adaptive?
Which bike is the most comfortable for you, please?
My Indian Chieftain Dark Horse. Best and most comfortable bike I’ve ever ridden. Lots of reviews on mine and on newer models on my channel if that helps.
Would this bike suit a new rider? It's seems like it's as easy as driving a car with power you won't grow out of... any thoughts?
Very informative. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about this motorcycle before I buy one. Great review.
Bmw r18 has reverse gear as an optional extra.
With the DCT and no clutch no friction zone how easy are u turns and slow speed maneuvering ?
yes it is a bit of a handful at low speeds, but if you put it in rain mode and use the back brake it makes it easier.
Thank you for a great review. I have a Rebel 1100 DCT and I am considering the comfort of a wing. Is the handling of the Wing harder than the Rebel? I know the shifting isn't as smooth on the Rebel. Curious about traffic and in town. Thanks so much.
Wing handles great even though it's bigger. Between the wing and rebel I'd always choose wing. Better, more refined, smooth great ride.
nice. doesn't the dct transmission need maintenance maybe.
I love it!! I have a HD Fatboy, and I found a ‘22 wing, like that one ,w3k miles on it,& I think I would love it!
Love it...but would want the dressed out version!!🏍
I agree! Give me a full touring setup and turn me loose across the country!
I hope Harley Davidson gonna do some good DCT model also
the BMW k1600glt also has reverse.
Excellent! I will add it to my list. Thank you!
Great bikes. Needs some lower engine case protection tho.
Agreed. Highway bars of some kind at least.
Not highwaybars, like a skidplate. I cracked my engine case a few days ago. Leaking oil now. Honda is telling me over $12k to fix it. Others have had the shift shaft boss get broken off the case. Catastrophic.
@@DeluxeChimp holy carp! can I ask what the resolution was for this?…..
I think the BMW k1600 also has reverse gear.
Good to know! Thank you!
Am new sub and loved your review of Gold Wing( i just retired last year and am 60 y/o ) am looking to buy the new G/W i know she weighs about 850 pounds like the Harley Road King and i love Harleys but have owned 3 in past and too much money and always fixing something on those bikes lol.
Can this fit à 6"9 person ?
The Can Am Spyder has reverse on them as well.
The Yamaha Star venture transcontinental has reverse as well.
Nice! Thank you. I want to try the yamaha touring lineup sometime. They didn't have the yamaha touring bikes there to demo.
@@MOTOBLADE yeah, I wouldn't think they would. The Eluder was a one year flop and the Venture is wishy-washy weather or not they're going to continue to make it. I'm just curious to see what they do. Ride safe brother.
does the 2022 have acc?
Excellent video.
Thank you!
HD Trikes equipped with reverse mode. I like low maintenance compared to a HD.
True, but that is a trike not a bike. I don't think Harley has any bikes with reverse, but BMW may have one.
I believe Boss Hoss has reverse. Not sure which of the two would give better smiles per gallon though .
Fit an OEM flat rack, lots of places to tie off.
@@MOTOBLADE I've been trying to buy one for 6 months. Now I can't even get on a list. Looking at a Triumph Tiger Sport 660 now. Those are in stock.
The rumors from Neeki is that the Honda is the Goldwing will be dropped in 2023, I hope not.
Great review the Goldwings have always been cool to me…
Very cool bikes. Loaded with great tech
@@MOTOBLADE the tech it has is a big plus very cool…🙂
Coming soon to the Goldwing, Apple BikePlay and Android Moto
Still liketo shift, tour model: higher windshield, centerstand, electronic suspension adjustment, heated driver and passenger seat, trunk, don't like the new seat height (29) as opposed to lower models 2017 and under, wish the handlebars were adjustable, heli bars are $1000.00, the red doesn't go with blue and black lol, other than that ,luv the bike, BTW you don't need to get into tight maneuver s with the dct, you have forward and reverse walking mode!
I like the pegs under me so I can hop over train tracks...etc.
Makes sense. I can do it just fine with my forward controls on the Indian and harley as well, but I admit it is a little easier to hop up when they're directly underneath of you.
Thanks for watching ✌🏻
BMW k1600gt has also reverse 😊
Beautiful ride
It certainly is!
BMW’s big bike has reverse also
Want a 2022 gold wing auto trans CSC trike
Ooh, Goldwing trikes are what originally attracted me to motorcycles and got me interested in the sport. CSC kits are a thing of beauty.
Urals have reverse too
looks nice but dealers around me do not allow test rides... well BMW does but nobody else.
Lots of dealerships are adopting this no test ride policy. I hope they lose their business. If I'm going to buy something, I MUST ride it first. If you're interested in it, it's worth making a trip to a dealership that'll let you do a test ride first. Only way to know for sure.
Huntington Beach Honda allowed me a test ride of my 2019.
Ural has reverse
Awesome, thank you! Will add that to my list ✌
Great bike love it
It is a great bike!
Do the Africa Twin nect to you
Must have missed the price come up on the screen, as you promised.
It's at 9:43 in the video, bottom left corner. I just noticed the overlay kinda blocked it a bit. It starts at $25,300. Sorry about that!
@@MOTOBLADE Thank you very much.
@@merson812 you're welcome!
Obviously this is definitely a Trans continental bike!!!!
Definitely made for the long haul. It's a Sturgis trip and beyond bike ✌🏻😎
The seating reminds me of the BMW R1800 , which I don’t care for and there’s to much plastic parts on the Goldwing
I agree. Feels more like a car than a bike. I like the gloss look straight manual Gold Wing better. Looks more like a motorcycle in my opinion.
BMW 1800B has reverse.
The Gold Wing is the only bike with reverse, and I love it!
It's a nice feature!
@@MOTOBLADE bmw r 18 has reverse also. Great video
"One of the few companies that uses drive shaft technology" ??? Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, BMW, Triumph, Moto Guzzi & just about all of the other manufacturers besides Harley and Indian offer a bike with shaft drive.
It’s like a two wheel Honda Civic.
Maybe a two wheel Civic Type R
BMW R18 has reverse also.
I did a test ride on an r18 at Americade and never saw that. Maybe as an extra option? Still, good to know. Thanks!
Nicely 2 EXPENSIVE 🥶
I agree. Way too expensive for me! Still a great machine though.
What curves?!!

Bmw r18 bagger has reverse
Really? I tried one of those and it didn't have it. Maybe it's an extra mine just didn't have installed.
@@MOTOBLADE its not as easy to use as the gold wing there is a lever on left side by your calf that u have to flip and it runs off of starter then after u back up u flip the lever back and begin your drive
I heard bmw touring has reverse… just saying😊
One of the few using drivetrain technology…..uh. …what?
There’s nothing like a new goldwing, I have a 2018 dct touring model no other bike comes close, so take that you die hard Harley riders after all your new bikes are made in Mexico.
I like the new Gold Wing, but the Indian Challenger still beats it in every category for me. If I had the cash, I would still pick one of these up, but I'd want the touring model with the trunk like you have. I like having more storage.
BMW K1600’s have reverse
Excellent! Thanks for letting me know! I'm finding out from a lot of people there's several bikes out there with reverse. Thanks!
Bad ass

Not on any bikes. Only on trikes. Not comparable.
Nothing has changed to 2021 apart from the terrible colour and the price.
