I built my first cabinet after watching your first bartop tutorial. Ive built 6 now!! Im hooked. thanks for making such an easy to follow video and letting me think i could even pull something like this off! Cheers
Just a quick tip, and it saved me a bunch of headaches. Instead of putting in the speaker holes once the cabinet is built, put them in when it's still flat. You can make the holes by hand, or if you have access to a big enough drill press, set a depth stop. I did that when I made mine, and it was awesome! Also, I really like the little tips and tricks you throw into your videos, keep it up man!
Looks great, Mike! I might borrow some of your ideas for my cabinet - you have some great tips! I'm just about done with my arcade and you were one of the makers that were an inspiration for my build! Keep up the good work!
Mr. T makes history with his arcade videos on RUclips. If it wasn't for Mr. T, I wouldn't be so committed to starting a build... (Now I know more about Jamma and for that matter Marquee - thanks TheGeekPub...)
Fantastic. I just had too much going on in my life for a while. All good things, but just kept me too busy to do any videos. Its good to be back making them again!
Well done. Thanks for sharing! Edit: The ONLY issue is see is that you are using Sanwa's (designed for metal or 1/2" MDF) are being used on 3/4" MDF. This makes the joystick a nub on top (too short). I would have went with a Happ Super with a ball top shaft instead. (but the bartop joystick is easily upgradable though, which is good news!). Nonetheless, good work!
"makes the joystick a nub on top (too short)" Nope. This is addressed in numerous places. And if you don't want to backbore as shown in the video, you can use 1/2" MDF for the control panel top with no issues.
I love how accessible you make it seem man, like you said, you can spend a ton of planning drawing out on CAD or whatever and working out angles, or you can just draw it out right on the surface you're gonna be working on. Now I just gotta steal some tools from my buddy who's an engineer xD
Hello Mike, from Spain my congratulations on how to focus your projects, especially those of wood. I would like you to do many more about arcade and retro themes. Thanks for your contribution. Greetings.
I liked the blue paint. Does the T molding require a special routing bit? My brother who is a little older than me used to love to play video games at the local grocery store (they had a couple). In fact, he would blow is paper route money on playing these when they came out. I think I am going to make him one of these. I think he'll be reliving his teenage years very soon:) Thanks for sharing!
I noticed you spent a long time spackling your brad nailer holes and cutting 3/4 inch strips to assemble the cabinet. Wouldn't have a biscuit joiner been a better solution and made the cabinet stronger. I used a biscuit joiner on my cocktail cabinet build and really loved it. I had no external nail holes and the table is built like a tank.
Sure. But I try to show methods that most anyone can build. Your average Joe doesn't have a biscuit jointer. You can build this arcade with only a jigsaw and hammer if you have limited tools.
Fair enough. I am blessed with a shop full of tools that most people don't have. The jig saw seemed to give me the most trouble though. I do love your speaker grill advice and I am taking your wiring ideas to heart. I like the electrical box in the bottom as opposed to just drilling a hole for a power strip. I am stealing that idea.
Checking out your plans. Not sure if they fit my needs based on the desctiption. (cnc) Do they include un-noted pdf files for all the cuts or only what is shown. Thank you!
When you reference other videos that you have made (eg the primer filler video) could you include a link to it. either in the description or even better if its over the video
Love the VID, cant wait to make my own... however, hate to ask this, but any way you can do a video (maybe you have one and I have not gone though all you vids yet) for the average Joe that just may have simple tools like you said... hammer, drill, jig saw, etc.?
Awesome video as always man! I've been waiting for a while for this one to come out. Been following it on Instagram! This is the one I plan to finally build!
nice builds but " tut tut, no mask for that MDF dust" when t mold`n. id have put the fan somewhere near the top, heat rises :) but keep the holes at the bottom so it drawers in cooler air.
Have you ever made a mame cabinet or bartop arcade to look more 'furniture grade'? I am thinking of building a few arcade cabinets for my new house, but I want them made with quality woods and have them look like pieces of furniture rather than the typical t-molding arcade classic (which I also love). Just thought you might have since you also seem to have a nice woodshop.
woodengamer yeah, wooden bartop arcades look amazing. I made two of them for my cousins and also have a full sized one I made for myself. Here are some pics if you want inspiration. www.dropbox.com/sc/1oa4mux3i4r21wb/AAD_7A7vOCalRHA1scielIFka BTW: If you were wondering, that is me in the picture
Hey I just watched this video by +TheWoodWhisperer and I think it's exactly what you're looking for: www.thewoodwhisperer.com/videos/bartop-arcade-raspberry-pi/
Hi... I understand this is about building the unit, but do you have any info on the Raspberry Pi implementation? I'm kind of new to the RPi but I think you mentioned selecting games, etc. Just wondering how to make this look and feel like the game and not boot up to the RPi prompt. I know my question is more about making the Pi work and not the build, but if you could direct me to a web source, I'd appreciate it. BTW, I just looked at your pricing for plans and guild. You are definitely making it easy to make these plans available at a very reasonable price. I'm a woodturner and semi woodworker and these plans I think I could handle. Regards, Irv in Florida
hello I love this but I been looking a lot to see where and how to ins all the games but no luck so can you help ?keep the good work up and going became I love the videos
Dumb question here, but I'm going to ask it anyway. Is a bar top cabinet the same as a standing cabinet just without the bottom? If yes, then would it be possible to just build a bar top that sets into a base so it's a convertible depending on your living situation? It seems like other than a coin op, which is not needed for a home machine, the base is just empty and could be little more than a matching stand for a bar top.
To some degree this is true. A bartop is usually a smaller monitor and smaller form factor all around than a stand up arcade. I have actually considered making a convertible one with some neat stuff in the bottom of it.
You seemed a bit hesitant when you pronounced the word "caulk". :D It there something wrong with putting your caulk on the cabinet? I'm sorry, I just turned 30 but I feel like I'm regressing year-over-year. Anyways, nice build, man!
Congratulations lambrettalad! You've been deputized as a bonified member of the Safety Police. Because we know you just can't help but tell others how to be safe. Not because it helps them of course, but because it makes you think you look smart. Joke's on you though. You look like a fool!
Top notch craftsmanship. Top notch instruction. Top notch products. Someday I hope to make myself one.
Wow! Thanks for your kind words!
Two of my favorite youTube content creators in one comment! :D
Geeksmithing! Thanks buddy
Both these channels deserve much more exposure. They do amazing work

Good to see you back!
I took a long break, but I will always be back!
Came here from the 8-bit guy. You guys make some great videos. Nice work.
Looks great, Mike! I might borrow some of your ideas for my cabinet - you have some great tips! I'm just about done with my arcade and you were one of the makers that were an inspiration for my build! Keep up the good work!
Finally a new video! Fantastic!
I've got several more in various stages of completion.
Your work is so clean 👏
As for the hot glue removal 70% alcohol works wonders.
Glad you're back, got a bit worried for a while there!
Pretty damn cool dude. I have been retro gaming like a beast the past week. Nice video.
Happy to see another great video of yours. Your last bartop arcade video inspired me to make my own.
I'd love to see some pics of it!
your right i am happy......good job thx....bought your plans for the bar top arcade coming along well.....
Love to see you add a track ball option
That's on my list of things when I get some time! Thanks for the comment!

Papa would be a hero with grandkids over this thing. Also makes papa very nostalgic. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Calling yourself papa is fucking creepy old man
Very nice video and fun to watch. Have a nice day.
awesome video. happy to see your back.
Brian Atwell , you saw his back? :)
This is funny, I was just re-watching some of your arcade videos an hour and I was wondering where you went and here you are!
Fantastic. I just had too much going on in my life for a while. All good things, but just kept me too busy to do any videos. Its good to be back making them again!
I get it and that's the same reason I've been absent. Anyways, it's good to have you back.
I need this for Christmas
Always love seeing your vids man! Awesome content!
great stuff man and liked... nice to see people not using CNC....

Great video! I've watched your previous videos, and I really need to get on this project and make one.
Post pictures if you make one!
cool arcade classic cabinet
Hello Mike, from Spain my congratulations on how to focus your projects, especially those of wood. I would like you to do many more about arcade and retro themes.
Thanks for your contribution.
Greetings.
youre still alive!!!!!
I'm glad too! ;-)
Great video as always mike I really enjoying watching them. Great to see you back!
Thanks for the kind comments Brian!
Thanks! You are the Best. Can you tell me the model of the monitor with the power specs?
All on my website.
Nice!
See you have the same annoying DeWalt jigsaw that blows motor exhaust right into your face, rather than onto the wood to clear the saw dust.
Yep. That's the one. I've thought about trying to find a way to modify it.
Sounds like a great way to get some extra fibre in your diet!

Steal away! That's what these videos are for! ;-)
Great build. It really looks awesome.
Best maker ever
Perfect table top i love it
Thanks!
What is the model of the monitor?
Checking out your plans. Not sure if they fit my needs based on the desctiption. (cnc) Do they include un-noted pdf files for all the cuts or only what is shown. Thank you!
Great work. Thanks for sharing. 😃
Love all your vid pretty much a really good step to step
Cool build. What's the model of the ACER display?
We all want to know
Love your work, can you please add a link to the surface mounted us ports you've used, thank you
They are on my website.
Do you offer any samples of your plans for us just kicking the tires ? Or, is paid access the only way ? Don’t really know what I want yet.
Can you share a link for that particular monitor ?
When you reference other videos that you have made (eg the primer filler video) could you include a link to it. either in the description or even better if its over the video
what do you do with these cabinets after they are done?
Love the VID, cant wait to make my own... however, hate to ask this, but any way you can do a video (maybe you have one and I have not gone though all you vids yet) for the average Joe that just may have simple tools like you said... hammer, drill, jig saw, etc.?
There's not much to show. Just use the jigsaw to cut the lines instead of the table saw. Use screws instead of brad nails.
TheGeekPub does your plans give you part numbers of the joystick and buttons also monitor?
Yes.
How did you connect the Pie to all the controls? IPAC encoder?
www.thegeekpub.com/product-category/arcade-component-kits/arcade-controller-kits/
Very nice!!!
Please, can you tell me the monitor model or give me the amazon link? thanks.

Actually, that has been on my list of to-do's for quite some time. I may actually build one this summer.

Hey I just watched this video by +TheWoodWhisperer and I think it's exactly what you're looking for: www.thewoodwhisperer.com/videos/bartop-arcade-raspberry-pi/
After all is done, how heavy is the build? Will this design and build work using 1/2 " plywood/MDF?
Absolutely. 3/4" material is nearly always overkill. 1/2" will work fine but I'm not sure about t-molding for 1/2" material.
You mention the monitor but you dont say what size it is. How much clearance do you give for the sides of the monitor
Are your plans available in metric system instead of inches?
Monitor model? or other monitors you recommend with the power setting you specified?
U and your brother 8 Bit Guy are totally cool...and u guys sound alike 🤗
do the buttons on the bottom right of the monitor not get pressed by the wood frame?
Nope.
Make a video tutorial on how to install mame games on retro pie more specifically where to find the game roms
I'm a new sub, and bind watching your videos! Love them! Thanks :-)
Why do you choose to build your own outlet box verse using a power strip that has a surge protector?
Same reason I chose to build my own cabinet instead of buying a prebuilt one.
i am interested in the speakers you use. where do you get them?
Check my website for all of the details.
T-molding hammer flamenco lol nice vid
HAHA! Funny!
what size is the t-molding router bit?

TheGeekPub Nice! 👀👍

All on my website...
@@TheGeekPub thank you!
What is the average cost of this build?
Do you sell any of the games you built ?
Nope. No time for that.
what speakers are those?
check my website
1.6k likes and i cant stop laughing with it.. 23:30🤣
you should give us the specs of the monitor...
Links are in the description to everything !

Glad you're here!
WHAT THE MODEL NUMBER OF THAT MONITOR
ruclips.net/video/DrliYAyL8Ts/видео.html
thanks
shit that is well made!
5 minutes exact :D
LOL! That's funny.
You seemed a bit hesitant when you pronounced the word "caulk". :D It there something wrong with putting your caulk on the cabinet?
I'm sorry, I just turned 30 but I feel like I'm regressing year-over-year.
Anyways, nice build, man!
LOL. Thanks for the laugh. Hahah.
I love putting caulk in the cracks.
Hot air rises. Drill outlet holes at top of rear panel. No need for fan x
Pawn stars! Lol
I don't get it.
hot glue is not strong
Video broke
Huh?
Who needs safety glasses? Rudeness will keep the sawdust out.
I let other people worry about their own safety.
seriously dude, wear a mask.
Seriously dude. Worry about your self.

good craftmanship but terrible design - completely player unfriendly!
I don't like the design of the cabinet. The lines doesn't look modern. The side wall is too sharp and claustrophobic. Graphic looks cheap too..sorry.
LOL. Did you miss the first 30 seconds of the video? That was EXACTLY what I said I was going for.
