In this video you'll learn the essentials of data analysis broken down into data cleaning, data analysis, and data visualization. In the data cleaning section, we'll use Power Query to clean up a raw set of data. This will include changing formats, merging columns, and trimming spaces. Then, in the analysis phase, we'll answer some questions about our data using pivot tables. Finally, in the visualization phase, we'll use conditional formatting, box plots, and scatter plots to visualize the data.

Kenji, I do not have the "Analyze Data" tool, and even though I´ve tried to add-in by costumizing the ribbon, It wasn´t possible. Is there sum else I can do? Tks! You have no idea how much your videos have been helping me...100% lifechanger ;)

Hey Kenji! I couldn't follow the Data Cleaning step of this video on my Mac. I have the latest (full) version of MS Excel. The Excel doesn't show 'From Table/Range' option due to which I am not able to use Power Query. Any suggestions? (Love your content by the way!)

Hi Vishnu, I had the same issue but I was able to find a work around. From the Data tab, select Get Data(Power Query). Then select "Launch Power Query Editor." Under the Home tab, find the New Query field and select 'Get Data.' Select "Excel Workbook" and choose this workbook. It worked for me, hopefully that answers your question.

I think we need latest version of excel for that. Currently I am using free version or cracked version I don't have that either. If it is because of another reason please let me know.I think that is pretty usefull tool.
In Analysis section in pivot table Jenna Silva is doubling and wasn't trimmed as supposed to in Data Cleaning

Hi kenji, just want to ask when using from table/range to fix salesperson name, the spaces between jenna silva name is not fix properly, while using =PROPER formula it's totally fixed. do you know why it's happened ?

Obviously, there's an error within the data cleaning. I've noticed it when creating the pivot table. Salesperson "Jenna Silva" has not correctly been cleaned. It appears twice, one is having too many blank spaces within first and last name.
What is best practice to solve that?

What is the difference between VBA and Power Query?
VBA is a programming language so it's primarily for automation, while Power Query is for data transformation (like cleaning up datasets). Many of the Power Query tasks you could automate with VBA (but it obviously takes time and it may be easier/faster to just use power query)

Very nice...but you are too fast..and you need to wait zoom in the instructions
With all due respect, your start table has a flaw - ["Jenna Silva"] instead of "Jenna Silva". End it is ruined all your work for your "manager". Because you have two Jenna's instead of one. So, all your pivot tables are wrong. Excel Power Query Format Trim function does not work and it is sad. Because - "Text.Trim - This basic function removes leading and trailing whitespaces from a given text string." As in ["Jenna Silva"] it is neither leading and trailing whitespaces, there are three excessive spaces in the middle. I could not find an easy way to correct it as I am not Excel pro, so has anybody found a way to fix it? Except manually, of course. OK, found it, in Power Query split this column using "most right" option, format it separately and merge it back.
Just split the column into 2 by "space" delimiter, then trim both columns, then merge again.
Honestly, this is probably a "best practice" as it likely covers more data-cleaning bases than just this singular issue
