Interesting contrast between Tidus and Yuna. When Braska disappeared, everyone was happy except Yuna, when Jecht disappeared, everyone was sad except for Tidus
Also, by the end of the story, both of them learn to view their parents with more nuance. Yuna realizes that following the path her father took is a mistake- that the path he took could even be considered wrong, and Tidus learns that his father was more than an emotionally abusive alcoholic- he was willing to sacrifice himself to save other people.
Honestly don't stop making contents like this even after this whole challenge end. The memes & jokes you use on commentary and their timing are too good to be wasted, this is a rare exquisite thing to find on internet 😩👌
The Glyph fight is easier if you separate all your characters. One spare glyph between each of them is ideal, moving to avoid the instant death ability.
Well, almost. Bahamut's Impulse is based on strength, so if you run her as a fighter instead, Impulse might already be doing 99999 damage to all enemies every turn by the time you get it.
@reloadpsi I often use one of the the thunder planes str spheres with Yuna, or otherwise take her on a str detour (expert grid) because watching Razzia do big number make brain happy
I love you. Your videos are so entertaining and it’s like I’m watching my own brain. Final fantasy, creativity, sassy comments, and drag race references. Subbed!
The Yunalesca and Seymour boss battles were about teaching that life is pain -- both of them hit you with Zombie, and then keep healing you with hurts. When you die, you are free of pain. It's nuts.
It's interesting to see Lulu's attack animation during the boss battle with the glyphs (see 38:40). Rather than send her cactuar at the enemy, she just swipes her arm through the air. I've never noticed that before.
That's true for everyone. They all use their counter-attack animation - which differs from the normal attack animation - in that fight because they can't move away from the glyphs.
I absolutely loved the little aside at the start about the game's love story. FFX has the most organic, *believable* love story in the entire series. I'm not a really big romance guy, but it's one of the chief factors of why I enjoy FFX as much as I do, and it made me actively tense leading up to the end, *knowing* what was going to happen as a result of the party's actions. The entire final act I was honestly hoping they could subvert it somehow, only to be *blown away* when they stuck the landing with a tragic, but inherently more meaningful conclusion to their romance. Unlike most of the other games, the love story isn't just window dressing; It really does feel like the most important thing at stake by the finale.
I adore this series you're doing, and thank you for taking time to talk about Yuna specifically, actually! I played this when I was younger (10? 11? 12?) and she was always my favorite character, because of how strong and determined she was in the face of all that pressure. My older brother would make fun of me bc he felt she was the opposite, just because she was a healer and had a thing for Tidus. xD Loving your vids, keep it up! Ty for the nostalgia.
@@JamSac I think the trick is making him aware of your run. He seems like a busy guy but this should pique his interest. About the only way I can think of (outside of finding direct contact details for him) is to keep an eye on his 24/7 livestream for when he appears in the chat and see if you can get his attention. Reckon that would go over better than all of us spamming the chat.
I think that the reason that Fina Fantasy X's love story feels more developed is because of the voice acting. I know a lot of people feel that FF8 feels forced is because it has no voice over as well that it is more subtle than in FFX. For example, in FF8 the way they show it is more like if it is like from school romance, while in FFX is rather from a sort of isekai scenario.
This whole game, I was going on the roller coaster, but at the fight with Biran and Yenke, with that music of Servants of the Mountain, and the way they treated Kimahri, it made me more emotional than any other moment. And the utter betrayal of Seymour murdering an entire race was so heartbreaking. Perhaps it's the bias of my own emotional reaction to that scene, but Kimahri is honestly my favourite FFX character. I love them all so much, but Kimahri is the sweetest, most gentle character. I think Kimahri's story is the one you have to dig most for, as everyone else just tells you what their deal is in a pretty straight-forward manner. But that's not how Kimahri is, and I like that they put enough thought into it to not have another character force-feed you that information, or have a 'montage' of sorts. There are anecdotes, little hints in the dialogue and in the way everyone interacts.
Fun Fact: That player you pick up at ~11:17 is the only missable blitzball player in the entire game. He disappears shortly after this point in the story. If you are super into blitzball, it actually isn't that big of a deal, though. Although he starts out as a solid goalkeeper and maintains that status for some time, he gradually becomes the worst player, bar none. Again, though, that last part isn't super relevant for most people unless you are deliberately grinding blitzball levels for some reason.
Tell me you've never played FFVIII without telling me you've never played FFVIII lmao EDIT: Watching you not space everyone out with one empty glyph between them during Spectral Keeper was the most painful thing to watch imaginable. The boss can only sweep up to 3 glyphs at once meaning you can guarantee that only one character ever takes damage from the counters.
btw, outdated fun facts!! The guards that appear with Seymour and then chase you, if you steal from them once, they never use Auto Potion again!! Also! the big machine dude after the calm lands, you can use Provoke on him and it forces him to ONLY use Blast Punch on that one character. Blast Punch only cuts your current hp in half, removing all the difficulty of the fight! Just fun tips for future runs
Tbh you die only at min 37 because you play the Fight wrong. The Mechanik behind that is made a position were only 1 Member is standing in Front of the Enemy. So he get the Counter atk and your Withe Mage can heal. And you can't complain that LuLu is not hitting something when you use no Aim or only 1 Aim. When i am not Wrong you can Stack the Buff 5x.
FFX is not perfect, but it is wonderful. Its pretty cool to be a side character as the main playable character, and after 22 years the cutscenes are actually still really solid.
If you have any regrets about Tidus name-choice, you can change the language, save, and change it back. Changing the language reverts his name to Tidus. Just thought I'd mention that.
If only there would be a action to reduce incoming damage of big telegraphed attacks.... Also seeing you not spread the party during the zanarkand temple fight kinda hurts
To this day i wish had acquired the Final Aeon. Lulu volunteered 1st and that was the traditional approach imagine it. Mayhaps a blend of The Black Waltz & Onion Knight. Using 4 swords as per her magic.
There is a difference between using life and full life on a zombie in ffx, each deals some percent damage characters max health, and inflicts the death status, so if they have immunity to the death status, fulllife should be prefered
Its so nice to hear another person praise Yuna and Tidus natural relationship. They like each other early but wait before trying any romantic stuff. Unlike Squall who has to wait for Rinoa to almost die to fall for her XD. So glad Tidus avoids THAT shounen trope. And here he is an okay white mage ^_^
Came for the challenge, stayed for the commentary. You are hilarious! You should try to do it in other games too, although few offer customization enough to do it. Or just review the story idk, I'll be there for it XD
Loved the breakdown of the relationship between Yuna and Tidus at the beginning, very interesting. Especially that Yunas whole motivation is deep and emotional and nuanced, and Tidus' is Yuna hot and famous
Yeah, he did Tidus dirty. There could be a lot more said about what attracts him to Yuna, which is exactly what was already said : the way she deals with her famous but missing father.
Using Provoke on the big robot thing on the Calm Lands makes that battle a joke and a half, as it will only use Blast Punch as long as the provoker stays on the field at all times
When you see mortiorchis charges, you should attack it and kill it has 4000 hp, and when hp drops to zero, he will steal 4000 hp from Seymore, giving you more time till he uses total annihilation
I just kept track of her (Yunalesca's) health, and when she was really low on hp i summoned Bahamut and he'd take the blow from the first Mega Death for me after Yunalesca switches stages. It was my first playthrough and i didn't know you could survive with the zombie status on. So that was a cheap tactic i came up with. I don't remember if she used mega death after that initial one (it was almost 20 years ago when i first played the game after all), but with sacrificing an Aeon i was able to defeat her on my third or fourth attempt. Still, Yunalesca is very memorable boss fight. She's in my top five memorable bosses from ffs (along side with Adel and Tantarian, but those are different story)
that bit about the playstation taking pity on you is like the opposite for me. RNG sees me do a challenge run and says "you're making it harder? let me help with that"
This is love story of Young Nun Warrior & Young Priest (This timeline) In this Kiss Scence depend on your sphere grind you choose, it can change point of view of characters in the cutscence, Yuna was a lot stronger than Tidus in this cutscence but she crying & Tidus try to comfort her, finaly kiss her in the end (Snu Snu)
I dont care what people think. Ffx absolutely has the best story and an amazing love story, just like you said there is an obvious tone of them liking each other but it takes them the perfect amount of time to have them go for each other. Its by far the only one you can feel the love with every bit of the story. Its why i literally cannot handle any stories because they pale in comparison to this one.
i love this series so much! i like how you balance gameplay with story and your opinions on characters and everything, it is very cool. also lulu's bitch slap was hilarious
Fun fact regarding the defender boss: using provoke as anyone will force him to only use blast punch, which is actually gravity damage and therefore can't kill you, effectively rendering him powerless
If anyone struggles on Defender X, on a standard or challenge playthrough, use provoke, and the boss is forced into only using blast punch, which cannot kill

If memory does not deceive me, you can cheese the Defender X boss simply by using provoke on it. For some reason, the ai of defender x will only cast blast punch, doing 50% of your current hp. Basically, you can't die after you casted provoke on him unless you intentionally kill yourself.
@13:12 I felt like this was a VERY powerful moment in the game. Idk, like a simultaneous acknowledgement of her role as Spira's protector AND acceptance of Kimahri. Am I wrong?
I agree. They're on the run from religious authorities, viewed as traitors, and Kimahri was an outcast of his own people for a much longer time. Him proving himself in a battle that was stacked against him, it showed his brothers that he was just as strong-willed as his charge, Yuna. And when they say that they'll build a statue of Yuna with a big horn, they're acknowledging that their relationship is why Kimahri is so strong now, I think. She's, in spirit, a Ronso now. I mean, they've stacked a lot of meaning into a lot of the elements of that scene. The horns, the Hymn, the mountain itself. I know it definitely made me feel a lot of things when I first played it.
They both have famous fathers whom everyone idolizes. And while Braska was a good father, she still lives in his shadow as does Tidus. The only difference is Jecht is a terrible father who redeemed himself but never got to make it up to his son. Very complex story with many layers.
The scene of Tidus and Yuna is so heartwarming, only made better by the introduction of Suteki Da Ne track. Random fact about the Seymour Flux fight, it was the first time in all my years that I actually rage quit a boss fight. I remember I was horribly underleveled, just casually going through the game so when I reached that fight, I discovered hell. His Cross Cleave attack literally wiped out every party member I had except for Auron, who had a sliver of health remaining, so I resorted to using Aeons to take the hit and managed to squeak through the fight, barely. To make matters worse, I didn't learn my lesson from facing Seymour, as when I reached Yunalesca, it was pure chaos. It took me so many tries to get through her, I didn't rage quit like with Seymour, but it was a brutal mess.
I’m doing a run of FFX myself and I’m currently at Yunalesca. This run is going so smoothly for me, only fought Seymour here once, with the only annoying thing being trying to get AP for everyone when they are requiring over 10K for one level. The only bad spot I had was at Home when I was trying to get everyone 10 levels and during one battle everyone got confused and I got my first game over losing an hour’s worth of leveling. Now that I’m almost got the airship I’m so ready to get everything unlocked, minus fighting the dark aeons since it’s dumb that some are in return areas like Besaid village and Macalania Temple.
For any future plays, if you swap out your weapon, you don't entirely lose a turn. It's more like a half turn, a bonus action. A few characters at this stage are able to immediately move again once they swap their weapon. So you can have a ton of unique weapons for a character, elements included, and it won't hinder you much, if at all!

The Glyph fight is easier if you separate all your characters. One spare glyph between each of them is ideal, moving to avoid the instant death ability.
Yuna's grid needs magic because the strength of her summons magic depends on it, as well as Holy
If this is true, this just adds more excitement and difficulty to the swapped classes challenge JamSac is going for. Sounds good.

LMAO the bitch slap from Lulu has me weak
I’m doing a run of FFX myself and I’m currently at Yunalesca. This run is going so smoothly for me, only fought Seymour here once, with the only annoying thing being trying to get AP for everyone when they are requiring over 10K for one level.
The only bad spot I had was at Home when I was trying to get everyone 10 levels and during one battle everyone got confused and I got my first game over losing an hour’s worth of leveling. Now that I’m almost got the airship I’m so ready to get everything unlocked, minus fighting the dark aeons since it’s dumb that some are in return areas like Besaid village and Macalania Temple.
one comment for the handsome funny person
For any future plays, if you swap out your weapon, you don't entirely lose a turn. It's more like a half turn, a bonus action. A few characters at this stage are able to immediately move again once they swap their weapon.
So you can have a ton of unique weapons for a character, elements included, and it won't hinder you much, if at all!
oop NOOO i love kimarhi thooo 😭😭
