Hi everyone, i just oxidized 50 bright copper jumprings by putting them in a frying pan on top of the stove for 15 min. On medium heat. They came out an awesome antiqued copper. So easy!
I haven't even begun jewelry making but your gorgeous pendant really caught my eye. How fascinating how you adapted the Tree of Life off to the side of your cabochon. The oxidation is wonderful. The future potential in unique jewelry making has me feeling ecstatic. I've only toyed with this for 45 years but life along with other art got in my way. It's now time as I have the things I need rolling in and I will really enjoy following you. Thank you so much for sharing your gifts with us.
You are such a good teacher. Thank you. I look forward to your tutorials. It was nice to see you outside too. I woke up to snow this morning. I can't wait for May.
I purchased this from Amazon and it came with instructions. It says that when it neutralizes feed it to your tomato plants. They will love a good dose of sulpher. Hope this helps people who read it. Oh and it says after a few days you can put in down the drain. (but I wouldn't). Thanks for ALL your help!
Excellent information. I just tried to save my LOS and yes, lol, it neutrilized. Also, you were helpful in answering my question when you mentioned the copper going to an orange after waiting. I sealed my piece with spray enamel and I wasnt happy with the color of the copper so next time I will wait one day for some deeper color and then enamel. Great infor. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your tutorials, they are so helpful, & you explain everything so well. I haven't oxidised any pendants yet, but this video has given me the confidence to have a go! As a Newby to wire wrapping I'm still learning about which wires I like best to work with. I didn't realise 'silver filled' could be oxidised, so thank you so much for that gem of information..Love your work!!..xx
You are very welcome 💕 Silver filled has thicker coating of silver, but if you oxidize very thin, like 28 gauge, silver filled wires I find polishing can sometimes rub off the silver coating
Hi friends. I'm new here, but I just watched a youtube video on how to polish copper wire rather than oxidize it, and in order for the copper to be protected and not cause skin discoloration you can use renaissance wax, or a crystalline wax. That way your stone won't be affected. Just a tip. Also, Oxana, I love love love your work. Thank you for your tutorials!
Oxidizing is often done for the way it gives the copper that darker antique look and dimension. Although I have had a few customers ask me to leave it the light color before as well, so it is just personal preference.
Very informative video, as usual. You are so good at your videos, talking slowly and you carefully go over each step so even a true beginner like myself can understand and do it. I thank you for that. I am finding that some of the dead-soft copper wire jewelry I make are starting to tarnish so I am going to try to oxidize them. I use tumbled stones that I find and tumble myself and then wrap them. I'm wondering if there are any type of stones/rocks that I shouldn't oxidize, like Petoskey stones. Thank you again for your great videos and quick responses to questions.
Thank you so much! Yes, avoid any soft or porous stones. Pearls, opals, selenite, calcite all should be avoided. I also have had trouble with some Malachites. But Labradorite, Moonstone, Agates, Sunstone, Quartz have all been fine for me.
Hi - great info! Thank you Oxana 😀 I have two questions... 1. Does your bare copper wire that you’ve oxidized turn green over time since it’s not tarnish resistant wire? 2. Are there any stones you’re aware of that should not be dunked in liver of sulfur solution? Thanks much!
Love your videos! I wanted to mention that although it’s much easier to clean with steel wool under running water this should not be done with running water in your sink. You may want to add a text disclaimer to the beginning of the video as a precaution. The steel wool bits will clog your drain. I know this from experience from having had to replace my pipes. Now I put a deep container in the sink and periodically rinse my piece from the faucet so any steel wool bits are caught. Then I dump this outside in my lawn.
Oh really? Sorry to hear about that, I've been doing it for many many years and have never had a problem with my sink or pipes. I throw away the steel wool in the trash after I'm done polishing with it, only the tiniest little hairs off it break off and potentially go down the drain.
Thank you for your process, I read so much and youtubed that Liver of Sulfur has an extremely strong rotten egg smell that is why perhaps you did it outside and after taking your beauty out of the liver of sulfur, put it in warm water with baking soda to stop the oxidation process, so it keeps the dark shade, and then rinse and you can the use a sealer to seal the finish so it takes a few years to fade. Copper needs to be sealed because it will tarnish, as you know through time. Then the warm water with baking soda can be put in the liver of sulfur solution to stop the oxidizing process, or as you mentioned also, you can leave it till the water turns white, at this point, it is now useful for tomato plants soil or to be discarded normally.
I actually don't seal because you never know someone can have very sensitive skin and get irritation from sealants, and some people like unsealed copper because they wear copper for the health benefits. So what I do is include a polishing pad so they can just polish it back up every few weeks to keep the look.
yes you have to be careful with certain stones, specifically softer stones, when in doubt I oxidize before locking in the stones, so this way only the copper is exposed to the liver of sulfur
I will try to make a video on the future, it is basically a combination of the tree pendant and a framed cabochon pendant. Pretty time consuming, but nice result.
the reason I would want one is because I cant figure out how to make a tree with a frame of more than one wire. you should definitely consider :) thanks so much for replying!
Hi I really love your videos and thank you for all that you share with us. I noticed that you said you don't need to seal it after oxidizing it. Do you have any suggestions for sealing it for people who are sensitive to Copper against their skin?

Great video and gorgeous pieces. Most of my copper is tarnish resistant. Is there a way of oxidizing it or removing the coating so liver of sulphur will work?
Hi Oxana! I LOVE love love your videos! Today I am too sick to create, so am mainlining videos. I have a question on oxidizing, please? Have you ever oxidized a piece with a synthetic stone? I do resin casting and use some of my stones in my wire wrapping and want to oxidize some of them but not sure whether the resin "stone" will be ok in the liver of sulfur? And if so, how do you buff off some of the oxidization without scratching up the "stone"? Any help appreciated! Thanks!!
I have used resin stones and have not had any issues. You can use something like a pro polishing pad, it wouldn't scratch the stone, although I haven't had issues with the extra fine steel wool scratching any stones either. Maybe do one that is least precious to you as an experiment to see how it goes, as there are many types of resin out there so I can't speak to all resin stones.
Oxana, Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent!! Are there any stones or man made beads that cannot be put in the Liver of Sulfer? And does the steel wool ever scratch the stone? Last, do you buy plain Steel wool, without any cleansers in them?
I buy plain steel wool, extra fine, it has not scratched my stones. Some stones can not be put into liver of sulfur, the two I know of are opals and pearls.
@@OxanaCrafts Damnnn that's exactly what I came here to figure out if I could oxadize my opal piece. Thanks for the info, that saved me a lot of time and possibly ruining my fire opals.
Hello Oxana. I oxidized my pendants yesterday. Although the antique look is nice, I prefer the copper color rather than the silvery-black color. Is there a different product that oxidizes copper but keeps more of its natural color? If I use less of the liver of sulfur, would that work better? Thank you.
After you polish up the oxidized piece it will have the bright copper highlights. If they don't quite look orang-ey and warm toned, just give it a day, sometimes immediately after oxidizing the color is temporarily more cool toned.
Hi. Good demo. I have been given some raw copperwire and wonder if there is a way to prevent it from naturally oxidizing and keeping its bright shiny appearance? Thanks.
The directions I got with my gel has a baking soda step right after the wire turns black that is supposed to neutralize the oxidation. I guess that isn't necessary! Do you use a fine or super fine grade steel wool? I didn't know to use it wet before seeing this so I will try it. Rubbing the piece while dry creates metal dust...yuk. Also, I decided to just oxidize a whole bunch of wire instead of doing the piece later. Makes it easier in my opinion. It's a cool contrast to have the wire already oxidized and then use the bright copper half round in a couple of places.
Thanks for the tutorial. I've always been a little scared to use the product, but your tutorial made me no longer scared. Question: What if I decide I liked my piece better before I oxidized it? What's the simplest way to remove all of the oxidizing? Love your tree of life pendant. I found you made a bunch of tutorials for the style. Thanks.
What pink stone is it. Also loved the video again. One more question the steel wool doesnt it scratch the stone in it?? When ww buff copper w the stone in it?
Hi, I've only just started wire wrapping and want to oxidize, and I had the same question, doesn't the 0000 steel wool scratch the stone? So, my best never having tried it answer is, do the oxidizing before you set the stone in the wrap. If a stone has been polished with cerium oxide, tin oxide, or aluminum oxide I would think anything not finer than the polish would scratch the stone. Thank you @OxanaCrafts for the great tutorials.
🤗 Hey Love If I Wired Wrapped a piece of Lab And I Do this technique Will The Piece of Lab stone Get Damage 🤔? Or do you think I should Petina The wire first and then wire wrap the stone I .. The Stone That InHabe And want to make into a pendants Are Amethyst , Lab , Rose Quartz and Moss agate Is It Safe For these stones
I find that if the copper is a little warm it really darkens well. Like when refinishing antique coins. like I heat a cookie sheet lay the coins on there to heat them. 150 to 200 f is hot enough and heat last several minutes with los
Hello Oxana, I have some textured copper that has oxidized on its own, and I want to make some of the pieces oxidized and some shine, do you put a protective clear coating on them afterwards to protect the finish?
Awesome video! Can you reuse the steel wool? If you buff a flat surface (say a hammered piece of metal) would the whole thing turn brighter? If I wanted to make black bobby pins would you recommend buffing?
You can reuse only same day because it will get rust by next day. It still works for hammered textures and leaves the more raised bits brighter as long as you don't rub too hard
+Jamillah Abdullah I do have one for the tree, but not exactly like the one in this video. ruclips.net/video/1M9Gaq2nIHc/видео.html&lc=z12kj3xadke3cpyky23ldhfq5xnsvpthy04
Hey, O-I Just now found this vid of yours & had a ? I’m Hoping you’ll see & be able to answer, as I have this exact LOS gel to oxidize; are there Any stones or gems that might be effected by this process, for which it may be better to oxidize the wire Prior to setting? I’m curious about fine faceted solitaires, over cabs & beads....
Yes I heard that soft stones like opals and pearls can be damaged by the oxidizing solutions, so for those I oxidize before adding the stone. If i google, it says online not to use it with " turquoise, lapis, shells, pearls or other soft stones"
Total beginner question - can wire be Oxidized ahead of time if concerned about a stone? Maybe a certain length of wire and then use it to wrap after it's been oxidized? Thanks :)
@@OxanaCrafts Thank you! good to know I can oxidize the wire before I even start to use it for any type of wrapping. Appreciate all the videos and trying to learn :)
I tried to use LoS on sterling and it didn't get that dark...hot water and a very long time sitting in the solution. Do you have any tips? I love the way yours looks!
Hmm... That's strange, mine does take a little bit longer than copper but still turns black after a few minutes. Do you think maybe your silver was coated with anti tarnish?
dd you try any day with electro oxidize? its very easy with a celular charger. but congratulations your video its very interesting i like it very much.
I'm wondering the same thing. I made a bracelet from one of her tutorials with copper wire and it does turn my skin green if I wear it for longer than a day.
I’m having trouble with this. I oxidize and then polish high spots and it looks great. I rub on some renaissance wax. For some reason it continues to oxidize and becomes greenish and crusty in some spots! What am I doing wrong?
maybe try dipping into water with baking soda after oxidizing to stop the process, I usually wash well with soap, but I heard baking soda works even better. Eventually it will darken and need to be re-polished though.
Hi, Thank you for your tutorials. Has this processed ever dulled a crystal after dipping it as well? Have all the crystals come out as shiny as they have gone in? Also does the oxidised copper stain the skin with wear? Thanks. :)
It depends on crystal, certain stones can be effected, like opals, you should not oxidize them. I have not had copper stain the skin, but for some people it can, doesn't matter if it is oxidized or not.
I've seen others add a step of stabilizing the piece with a mix of baking soda and water (that was using solid liver of sulfur, not the gel). Do you just wash your pieces immediately after oxidizing them?
I use soap and water and stainless steel wool immediatley after to polish and clean. I add baking soda to the leftover liver of sulfur solution if I want to neautralize it when i'm done with it
Very helpful! Question though? Where do you get some of the beautiful stones you use for wire wrapping? I am having trouble finding a good source for stones and crystals!
Dillon Francis i just search around online, i don't have one specific source i buy from, just where i find what i am looking for. I get a lot of things from etsy, ebay, and facebook groups
+OxanaCrafts thank you oxana for help , cuz im working on same stuff but i never tried oxidize them but i guess if i do i'll have to tell my customers not to go into pool while having this on . thank you again for help hugs xx Best
You can also neutralize the liver of sulfur solution with baking soda before dumping so you don't need to leave it out for days. Might be a bit safer for people with animals or small children. :)
I love your videos they're so helpful!! I just started wire wrapping today:) Can i ask where you get your stones that you wrap?? I have my own crystal collection, but they are larger and don't seem ideal for jewelry/etc
Are beads or stones in the jewelry piece harmed by the liver of silver solution? Also, I’m afraid that I might scratch the bead/beads in the piece by the buffing.
Newbie here! If I wanted to use silver wire to oxidize, does it need to be sterling silver or will it work on copper coated in silver? Also, would the same product work? Thank you!
Sterling Silver because if you have silver plated the plating may rub off when you polish. You could use silver filled because it has thicker coating, but just make sure it is not anti tarnish because then it'd be treated to prevent oxidizing. Yes you'd use same material to oxidize silver as you would copper
just wondering if there's a way to mess this up? i'm scared i could ruin my nice pieces! and are there certain crystals that could be ruined? i was thinking maybe raw or porous stones could be affected. thanks!
yes absolutely, some stones will be affected. You need to research the stone you are using. Sometimes, I oxidize before securing the stone in so I can avoid potentially damaging stones I am unsure about
Hi Oxana, sorry for another question.... I just bought some bare copper wires. It looks very nice and so shiny. So, I make a wire wrap pendant based on one of your tutorial. After the pendant done and after about one hour, the wire became dull (not shiny anymore). Is this normal as it because I touch the copper while making the pendant ? one more thing, which I hope you don't mind... Since there is no liver of sulfur sold in my area, and I've tried the boiled egg method - but in vain. So I put the copper into a fire from stove and in a few second, I see the copper color turn dark - a little bit "rainbow" dark color. Do you happen to know if there is a difference between oxidizing copper with liver of sulfur VS put the copper into a fire ? Thank you once again for your channel. It helps me a lot in learning a wire wrap pendant.
Raw copper darkens pretty quickly, so I'm thinking yes it was from working with it that it became dull. The fire does rainbow of colours, but I noticed over time the rainbow fades to just dark colour. If you don't have liver of sulfur you can use ammonia (don't dunk it in, hang above the ammonia as it is the fumes that darken the copper)
Hi oxana!! Thank you so much for your tutorials. I'm hoping you can answer some things for me about oxidizing. Do you have to oxidize copper jewelery if you are selling? Do you leave some pieces as bare copper? Also what do you recommend as customer care for copper pieces? Do you use a finishing coat of some kind?
It is totally preference, you do not have to oxidize. I do it because I like the look and it is popular. And when the copper tarnishes(darkens) naturally over time, it is less obvious on an oxidized piece since it is already pretty dark. Preferably every once in a while copper will need to be polished to maintain the look. There are various polishing cloths and pads out there. I personally do not coat it with anything, but I know some do.
no I do not use a seal. some people prefer the benefits of the copper, and with different sealants there is that risk someone might be allergic to those chemicals, so I prefer to not add anything.
@@OxanaCrafts As someone allergic to sealants, thank you. This was my biggest reason for not oxidizing my jewelry (and I love the look of raw copper too.) I'm to the point where I want to oxidize some pieces.
Can you please tell me how to achieve a more rich orange/brown color with LOS? All my pieces come out looking like the original copper color as when I started when I'm done polishing?
+cheddo a are you following all the steps I show in this video? Your piece should be solid black before you polish it. When you polish the steel wool will not be able able to get down in the crevices to take the tarnish off in there. So you will get the multi dimensional look. Also, after you finish, give it a day. At the end of the video I show a piece that is a few days old, it turns more orange.
+OxanaCrafts Yes, I'm doing everything correctly. It's just that I see a lot of pieces on the Internet and they are this gorgeous rich dark orange color instead of the copper's normal color. Perhaps the pieces I am seeing have been photographed long after they were finished. I'll keep a watch on the 2 pieces I've recently finished to see how orange they get. Thanks so much Oxana and PLEASE keep your tutorials coming!! They truly are the best on RUclips. :)
Hey Oxana, thank you for this amazing tutorial! ^^ I have read that liver of sulfur is toxic for the environment and shouldn't be thrown away into the canal. Do you have any advice on how to dispose it? Thank you in advance ♡
Hii great video ❤️❤️ I was wondering if I had to use liver of sulfur for gold wires or gold plated. Where do you get your materials from? Where can I get a list of gemstones that you can and can not put in liver of sulfur? Thanks a lot
raw copper and sterling wires will darken when oxidized, gold does not so it would not work. You can use brass or bronze, it is a golden color but because it is primarily made of copper it will still darken. I would just google your individual stone, I do not know of a list that exists, I usually just take out the stone first if I am ever unsure

@@OxanaCrafts Damnnn that's exactly what I came here to figure out if I could oxadize my opal piece. Thanks for the info, that saved me a lot of time and possibly ruining my fire opals.
Have you oxidized a setting with moonstone and not ruined the stone? I watched your recent tutorial with the oval moon.
@@OxanaCrafts thank you!
Stunning, beautiful work! One question: can you store and reuse the oxidizing solution for later projects?
you can try, but it weakens so may not work as well unless you make something else that same day and use it again.
Hi. Good demo. I have been given some raw copperwire and wonder if there is a way to prevent it from naturally oxidizing and keeping its bright shiny appearance? Thanks.
I haven't tried, but there are sealants you can coat it with
Can you put in palm root cabochon in you think? Or moss agate? Thanks! I love your videos! Extremely helpful!
I have used those stones, the only thing I noticed is the palm root gets darker at first but then dries and returns to original color
The extra fine. You can soak in baking soda water to neutralize, washing with soap works too.
Thanks for the tip! Has anyone ever told you that you kind of sound like Pam from the Office? :)
that's so funny, no I haven't been told that, but that's cool, I love Pam :)
I can't unhear this
Thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks.
you can try soaking it in vinegar, not sure if it will completely lighten it all the way back to raw copper though
@@OxanaCrafts good to know. Partly faded may be what I'm looking for, should the occasion arise. Thanks!
Hi, I really love your work! Thanks a lot. I would like to ask you if you use some type of sealer after the patina to protect the piece? Thanks.
Thanks for your helpful videos! Have you ever used silver and copper in the same piece and oxidized it? What were the results?
Yes, I have, it works just fine using both, they both oxidize and darken, but you can still tell them apart
I find that if the copper is a little warm it really darkens well. Like when refinishing antique coins. like I heat a cookie sheet lay the coins on there to heat them. 150 to 200 f is hot enough and heat last several minutes with los
great tip, may have to be careful with certain stones though, so they don't get damaged by the heat
Hello Oxana, I have some textured copper that has oxidized on its own, and I want to make some of the pieces oxidized and some shine, do you put a protective clear coating on them afterwards to protect the finish?
I do not coat them, but I know a lot of people do tend to do that
After you oxidize the copper does it turn your skin green
Great tutorials! Thank you :)
will oxidization prevent skin turning green when using jewelry?
Awesome video! Can you reuse the steel wool? If you buff a flat surface (say a hammered piece of metal) would the whole thing turn brighter? If I wanted to make black bobby pins would you recommend buffing?
You can reuse only same day because it will get rust by next day. It still works for hammered textures and leaves the more raised bits brighter as long as you don't rub too hard
@@OxanaCrafts Hi Oxana, Thank you so much for replying! Keep doing your videos and have a wonderful night/day!
@@OxanaCrafts What if the wire is completely flat?
Do you have a tutorial for making those amazing wire weaves???? wow!
+Jamillah Abdullah I do have one for the tree, but not exactly like the one in this video. ruclips.net/video/1M9Gaq2nIHc/видео.html&lc=z12kj3xadke3cpyky23ldhfq5xnsvpthy04
Awesome!
Thanks :)
flashzonephoto exactly what I was wondering as well
yes it can, I often will get to the point where i'm about to lock the stone into place, oxidize without stone, then add the stone in and finish up
@@OxanaCrafts Thank you! good to know I can oxidize the wire before I even start to use it for any type of wrapping.
@@OxanaCrafts it got a little darker but not so much to have a good effect and it wasn't supposed to be non tarnish. I wonder.
I always see the oxidation after a piece has been made. Can the bare copper wire be oxidized before wire wrapping a stone?
Yes it can but then it will be messy to work with as the oxidation will rub off on your hands
Thank you Oxana, just wanted to know if this solution can harm the crystals? Thank you!
certain crystals it can, so you'd have to look up if your crystal is ok or oxidize without the stone
Hi, I was wondering if you can oxidize pure bronze wire with this technique?
dd you try any day with electro oxidize? its very easy with a celular charger. but congratulations your video its very interesting i like it very much.
COOL IDEA, put a single colored led cell on the back powered with tiny batteries to shine through, that would be awsome...
What do you mean I don't want to oxidize the pipes in my house? I want all metal to be pretty 😂
Enjoying your videos as I start my journey ❤
🤣
Great viedeo! I was wondering, does this proccess would prevent a copper piece to turn my skin green?
brass turns your skin green, not copper
I'm wondering the same thing. I made a bracelet from one of her tutorials with copper wire and it does turn my skin green if I wear it for longer than a day.
Can u oxidize the copper when its holding a resin pendant ?
I’m having trouble with this. I oxidize and then polish high spots and it looks great. I rub on some renaissance wax. For some reason it continues to oxidize and becomes greenish and crusty in some spots! What am I doing wrong?
maybe try dipping into water with baking soda after oxidizing to stop the process, I usually wash well with soap, but I heard baking soda works even better. Eventually it will darken and need to be re-polished though.
Oxana oxidizes!
Is bare copper and natural copper the same thing? In other words, can I oxidize natural copper wire? Thanks
Yes, as long as it is just plain copper and coated with anything to prevent tarnish
Thank you. Would you say that stones in the quartz family are all ok?
I've seen others add a step of stabilizing the piece with a mix of baking soda and water (that was using solid liver of sulfur, not the gel). Do you just wash your pieces immediately after oxidizing them?
I use soap and water and stainless steel wool immediatley after to polish and clean. I add baking soda to the leftover liver of sulfur solution if I want to neautralize it when i'm done with it
@@OxanaCrafts thanks, that's just what i ended up doing.
OxanaCrafts sounds good! Thank you again :) keep up the amazing work!
if somebody swim while haveing this on , the color of it will turn back to raw copper ?
+Emre vamp I am not sure what effect pool chemical will have on the copper. I advise never wearing this type of jewelry in the pool.
+OxanaCrafts thank you oxana for help , cuz im working on same stuff but i never tried oxidize them but i guess if i do i'll have to tell my customers not to go into pool while having this on . thank you again for help hugs xx Best
+Emre vamp you are welcome!
if anyone checks on the effects of swimming after this effect please let us know. Because I do swim with my jewelry on. Thank you
nothing happened ,some of pieces just lose abit of patina n some not , but not a big deal so no worries
Is the dead soft copper you buy off rio grande treated or untreated
it is raw copper, not treated
You can also neutralize the liver of sulfur solution with baking soda before dumping so you don't need to leave it out for days. Might be a bit safer for people with animals or small children. :)
yes definitley, I've done it before and baking soda works great
I love your videos they're so helpful!! I just started wire wrapping today:) Can i ask where you get your stones that you wrap?? I have my own crystal collection, but they are larger and don't seem ideal for jewelry/etc
Etsy has lots of cabochons!
Are beads or stones in the jewelry piece harmed by the liver of silver solution? Also, I’m afraid that I might scratch the bead/beads in the piece by the buffing.
They are generally fine, but I'd avoid doing it with soft stones like opals or pearls or selenite
where do you put the sulfurliver solution after using? can you put it in the sink?
you can add baking soda to neautralize it, and then yes: sink or sometimes I just pour it on my backyard
@@OxanaCrafts thank you for ur tipps!
Yes you'd use same material to oxidize silver as you would copper
just wondering if there's a way to mess this up? i'm scared i could ruin my nice pieces! and are there certain crystals that could be ruined? i was thinking maybe raw or porous stones could be affected. thanks!
just read some of the comments and saw your replies about certain stones. still wondering if i could mess this up in anyway!,
yes absolutely, some stones will be affected. You need to research the stone you are using. Sometimes, I oxidize before securing the stone in so I can avoid potentially damaging stones I am unsure about
What liquid did you use to change the color of copper to be unique?
this one, you mix it with water: www.riogrande.com/product/midas-liver-of-sulfur-xl-gel/331033GP/?code=331033
@@OxanaCrafts Thank you, thank you very much for your kind explanation 🙏.
What liquid did you use to oxidize the copper wire? Please show the brand
liver of sulfur gel, from here: www.riogrande.com/product/midas-liver-of-sulfur-xl-gel/331033GP/?code=331033
So beautiful. Just getting into jewelry making myself. Question...do you need to seal it in any way after oxidizing?
Thank you, no I do not seal it
Thank you, Oxana! do you use a protective seal as well and does it prolong the finish?
no I do not use a seal. some people prefer the benefits of the copper, and with different sealants there is that risk someone might be allergic to those chemicals, so I prefer to not add anything.
It didn't occur to me that some people might be allergic to sealants. Thank you once again for your expert advice.
@@OxanaCrafts As someone allergic to sealants, thank you. This was my biggest reason for not oxidizing my jewelry (and I love the look of raw copper too.) I'm to the point where I want to oxidize some pieces.
Can you please tell me how to achieve a more rich orange/brown color
with LOS? All my pieces come out looking like the original copper color
as when I started when I'm done polishing?
Does this affect stones at all? Thank you ❤️
Some soft stones like pearls and opals, as well as dyed stones can be affected, so it is better to remove those stones before oxidizing
Hey Oxana, thank you for this amazing tutorial! ^^ I have read that liver of sulfur is toxic for the environment and shouldn't be thrown away into the canal. Do you have any advice on how to dispose it? Thank you in advance ♡
you can neautralize it with baking soda
Thank you so much for your videos Oxana.
+Olivia Burrage you are very welcome!
Use fresh air ventilation biggly when using liver of sulfate!
Do you ever deal with the peices rusting and aging more afterwards? How do you deal with that problem
Copper should not rust, but it can darken, I just polish it again
I have a question. Do you HAVE to oxidize your copper? Or can you just make jewelry with the “raw” copper as is?
it is just preference, you can leave it raw
Do you use any sealant when finished?
I do not
