    I like, that the knife is so easy to disassemble and to assemble. No special tools needed, no springs that jump away, no tiny parts that can get lost. Everyone can open it easily for cleaning and repairing purposes. This is worth to mention, because when we look into other OTF designs, you mostly see the exact opposite.

    Nice! Simple yet effective design. Have you thought maybe of long pins, from the hanle to half the length of the blade, locking in to the blade's slot both sides for stability? You could even ran them through the whole handle to create somewhat full tang (or more like half tang, if I could say) lock/support. Having the length of the handle, the four blade rail-supporters could be fixed, which will probably make the blades really steady when in place. Just a thought. Thanks for materializing the "double tanto" concept!

But something Jörg and myself can discuss with Midgards Messer (of which Jörg is also partial owner) once the production run is completely sold… who knows what happens :-) it is also important to note that the files are not for printing on FDM… and even with the SLS process a lot of post printing work was needed to make everything fit and slide smoothly. I had an idea and would love your thoughts on it!
    In order to make the lock in the production version slightly stronger, would you be able to use the flat back part of the ramp side of the locking interface (this side ➡️📐), as another lock in itself? Effectively having it lock on both sides until the ramp is pushed down and out of the way?
    This would unlock and move both the round lock section and the “ramp lock” side with the same function. That way it locks and unlocks in one motion still, but provides a stopping point on both sides of the blade which would make it (in theory) 2x as strong.
    Love this design and think you guys are brilliant!

    • @nirodha7028
      @nirodha7028  6 месяцев назад +4

      Thank you for the positive feedback and sharing your thoughts. The strength of the blade (or rather its stability inside the handle) really isn’t that much dependant on the lock itself being on one side only. As long as the tolerances between the blade and the engulfing grip portion are tight enough the play will be minimized. We ‘will’ have tighter tolerances on the lock itself though… The cylindrical portion under the ramp which actually moves through the hole in the blade. In the 3D printed version the tolerances are pretty large and also between the ramp and the cavity inside the blade. This will be much tighter in the real version which will stop the ability from the lock to slightly screw itself in the blade which is now responsible for the tiny amount of backwards and forwards play. Side to side play of the blade is also only a result of the fitment of the outer planes of the blade relative to the inside of the combined grip sections holding it. Hope this explains.

    Well done on the demo, I've done demos on stuff and it's not easy. The only real problem that I can see with the design is when the blades are returned to their 'sheath' position. Aiming 2 steel knife points at 2 slots at the same time, especially at dusk or night, is really an accident waiting to happen. Maybe plastic guides that push out of the way when in locked position? Don't know, not my field.

    wow genius design definitely gonna buy one when i can, would this be considered a illegal knife in the netherlands?

    • @nirodha7028
      @nirodha7028  6 месяцев назад +1

      It would definitely not be a carry legal knife in the Netherlands. Our rules and laws are different from the ones in Germany. I am actually personally in the process of trying to find out if this set could fall under the category of collecting knives and if in that case it would be legal to own a set and have it in your house as part of a collection. I don’t want anyone to ever do anything illegal nor myself… So please educate yourself on your local laws and regulations.

    • @nirodha7028
      @nirodha7028  6 месяцев назад +1

      Due to the importance of this question and because I do not want anyone to do anything illegal and get into trouble I would like to come back to this question.
      I have done some research and the answer is as follows:
      These will NOT be legal to carry or even own in the Netherlands. Any ‘folding’ knife which… in unfolded state is longer than 28 cm in total is considered a category 1 weapon. Also any folding knife with more than a single edge falls under this category. Since both those stipulations apply to this design the final product will not be legal to own in the Netherlands.
      Weirdly it ‘is’ legal in the Netherlands to own swords like Katanas or full tang Tantos. You are NOT allowed to carry those… but you can have them in your house when the owner is over the age of 18. You are also allowed to own double edged swords, bajonets and rapiers. Again…. Not carry them.
      Apparently the fact a Tanto (or even a sword) could be made to fold, then makes it illegal to own. The reason this is strange is because a full tang Tanto or sword will under any circumstance be a stronger weapon than a folding one. Unfortunately this doesn’t matter and the foldability combined with the size makes it fall into category 1.
      This means I will personally not own a set of these as I am Dutch myself.
      They are designed for the German market and will be sold in Germany. Their laws differ from the Dutch ones.
      The 3D printed prototype shown in this video and created for R&D purposes only is not made from metal, completely dull and is not a functional knife.

      Thank you for your enthusiasm. I have done some research and do not want anyone to do anything illegal or get into trouble. please be aware:
      These will NOT be legal to carry or even own in the Netherlands. Any ‘folding’ knife which… in unfolded state is longer than 28 cm in total is considered a category 1 weapon. Also any folding knife with more than a single edge falls under this category. Since both those stipulations apply to this design the final product will not be legal to own in the Netherlands.
      Weirdly it ‘is’ legal in the Netherlands to own swords like Katanas or full tang Tantos. You are NOT allowed to carry those (for obvious and justified reasons)… but you can have them in your house when the owner is over the age of 18. You are also allowed to own double edged swords, bajonets and rapiers (sharp or dull doesn’t matter). Again…. Not allowed to carry them.
      These are designed for the German market and will be sold in Germany. Their laws differ from the Dutch ones.
      The 3D printed prototype shown in this video and created for R&D purposes only is not made from metal, completely dull and is not a functional knife.

      @@nirodha7028 Oef... that is honestly very disappointing. Have been following this knife for a while now :-( Is there maybe a possibility for selling them in NL without sharpened blades? I love the mechanism and the look of them. Thanks for the thorough reply!

    • @nirodha7028
      @nirodha7028  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@YourComputerExpert yes it is a bummer. There is no ‘out’ to somehow make them legal in NL as they are defined now.
      A smaller version (which stays below 28 cm unfolded including grip ‘per knife’) and with a single sided edge would to be legal to own in NL.
      A smaller version is something we are already talking about…. So you might still be able to appreciate the mechanism from up close at some point in time :-)
      Keep following I would say. That way you will know when it becomes a thing.

    • @nirodha7028
      @nirodha7028  6 месяцев назад +1

      I have done more research and things might be looking up. Category 1 speaks specifically of ‘folding knives’ which are longer than 28 cm in total and/or have a double edge. These blades do not ‘fold’ fold however they slide… and they also don’t slide completely into their own respective grips… Just roughly half way. So one can argue that these blades only ‘extend or shorten’ themselves but they never ‘fold’ into the handle completely… This means they might actually fall under category 4 which would make them legal to own as an adult in the Netherlands and keep safe in your house. This is NOT yet confirmed by legal counsil, but I am working on that. Will keep you posted!

    PLEASE don't make this a limited design! or atleast make this la imited version in premium materials and then make a more mainstream one out of say 14c28n Steel, which is super tough and corrosion resistant while being affordable. The affordale version could be a bit shorter if it will make it more practical and economical to manufacture but keep the 14c28n steel as it's really popular in knife world and that way i think you can get this cool knife tech to more people.

    is it possible to lose the bolt? hear me out: the threads for those tiny bolts are 100% going to be the first thing that goes upon repeated disassembly for maintenance. if you were to replace them with fixed steel locator pins, and tasteful looking retainer rings which slide over the handle, the knives would have a much longer service life before breaking. also disassembly would be a breeze, something you'd do just to entertain people, not just out of necessity. this would also mean you'd maintain the mechanism more often. bolts suck in general, and tiny bolts suck more than large ones. please consider this idea. thanks
