It is theotized that wet agriculture could have started in Iran, in places like these where water for irrigation from small streams was easier to control. I did not believe it then since wheat and barley do not need as much water as rice. Terrace agriculture for rice was a big surprise! I am learning a lot from these videos.

all those stones --some totally huge--were once in the ground. in order to create fields to farm, the poor people need to "de-stone" it, namely, remove those stones one by one, and pile them up in rows at the edge of the land. then they can use the soil, AFTER, the have built flat, perfectly leveled terraces for water to cover it evenly for farming rice. BUT, then they need to bring water to their farms on the side of those mountain by simple dirt canals, built with incredible toil and trouble by these good, but poor folks

YEp,, this image is reminiscent of my poor childhood in southern china,, YEp, we had 1 acre rice field------which was able to plant twice annually, in contrast to this,, this iranian hilly terrain seems dry----lack of water, no rain fall, rice demands tons of water, the field has to be flooded by at least 3----5 inch of water, I remember that I kept my back bending all day long in order to plant these seedlings to the field,, absolutely back breaking task,, I kept bending my back for 14 hours a day,, 7 days in a roll to complete plantation of one acre rice field.. THAT was one the seedling plantation,, THERE are lots more chore to follow,, not funny at all,, in this video here at least with machinery assistance, but I did everything with my bare hands 30 years ago.. ever had lots of good dreams,,,,
Looks like new terraces, made by D9 or so dozers with rippers. The "soil" looks like decomposed granite. It would be sterile subsoil, no humus, or nutrients for a crop, so it is near 100% hydroponic.
