The Ignik is a bit anemic, flame barely above the can. I compared it to the Lavabox at overland expo west and it’s not a fair fight. The flame on the Lavabox can easily shoot up to 4’ above the can and the radiated heat difference is visceral. 38,000 BTU vs 280,00 😮. I bought the Lavabox.

Ignik shared in their RUclips info vid that the yellow flame ones are not for cooking food directly over flame due to soot and gas residues. They do have one that switches between fire pit to BBQ grill with the blue flame.

Good to know. I’ll have to check that out. There directions said otherwise but thanks for the info.

I returned this thing after 2 trips. It’s more for IG pics instead of a heat source. Even with lava rocks in it, not enough heat output

I'm late to this party, but just bought and used it for the first time along with the Ignik growler. I live in the PNW where as of August there are Level 2 and 3 burn bans pretty much everywhere, even in campgrounds. We camped 2 nights and kept it on low to be conservative, maybe 30%, and it lasted both nights (at least 2 hours maybe more each night) and the last morning, had it running at half power for about 3 hours as we puttered about and packed up, just to see when it would burn out... and it was still going when we finally had to leave. When we filled it up on the way back, it still had .2 gallons left (out of ~1.2 so only used 1 gallon the whole time). So I feel confident this could last at least 3 nights with a full tank but on lower output. And honestly, unless you in a very cold place and using it mainly for heat, there is not much of a difference with a lower output vs. high. The high seems unnecessary, we were able to cook and stay warm while getting the ambience of a true fire (let's not lie to ourselves, a fire is the best part of camping). One caveat, def get a diffusing material- we ordered some cheapo lava rocks off of amazon to and that makes a HUGE difference for the feeling/ambience of being a "real" campfire. While on the pricey side, I highly recommend especially if you have less space or a smaller car. I camp in my Mini with our dog, a foldable kayak, a giant tent, all our gear, gear and now this and the growler, with room to spare. If you have more room to spare, I know there are way more options but this setup works perfectly for us and is very worth the investment.

They are great. Bought mine 4 or 5 months back.

Quite a few people have added lava rocks to the pit to help it retain warmth. Seems like a smart move to me

Got to invest in the little ceramic logs on Amazon. Makes it perfect and nice diffusing.

The growler is pretty dope IMO, it connects to both my 2 burner Coleman and a mybuddy heater (which was a surprise). I'd like to say the firecan itself is nothing like what a lavabox puts out when it comes to flame size, that being said if you are going to buy a lavabox you may as well just DIY it for half the price. Overall I'm impressed with both firecan and growler that being said I'd still recommend getting both for lower than MSRP, I was able to get both from REI on a sale. The firecan is probably best for no more than 3 people at best with that said exercise your own judgment and take reviews with a grain of salt.

I've seen a lot of reviews on this fire pit and it seems to be well-liked, especially because of the built-in legs. Too bad I missed the half-off sale at REI at the beginning of July. With that said, they still have it at a discounted price of $150.

So how sturdy are the burners? If I got things started then supplemented with wood, would that be too much?

I don’t think putting wood into the can would be a good idea. You will end up clogging the holes that the gas exits and could be dangerous.

Not worth it. BTU rating is only 38,000 output. Maybe ok for one person

You used to do pretty good videos on trails. Now all you do is commercials 😒

  • @MIAMIC70

Great commercial. The BTU rating on the FireCan is too low, the hose is too short, the the brass input connector is on THE SIDE OF THR CAN! What a bonehead move negates the profile of the ammo can because you now have a fragile point of failure sticking out 2” from side. Finally, love the way you presented the fact that the propane tank is “industry standard”. Another way to say it would be it is the same Flame King tank you can but anywhere for under $50 🙄
Oh and almost forgot. The combo is too damn expensive!
