I hoped this version would be better. Lovett actually did great. Surprisingly, Steve Earle messed it up and stumbled and strummed and sung parts off beat.
Steve does this deliberately though. He’s in front of the beat (I’m sorry, I don’t know the English term for that). He does it with all of his own songs as well. Sometimes it works really well and sometimes not so much.

I actually really like it here! I like his son and Townes a lot more than I do Steve Earle, but I think his style works well in this version
