1795년(조선 정조 19) 정조가 어머니 혜경궁 홍씨를 모시고 수원 화성으로 행차하였을 때 정조가 계획하고 진행한 행사들을 8폭에 나누어 그린 병풍인 “화성능행도병”의 장면을 시각의 산수도(山水圖)에 재구성하여 현대의 인물들과 어우러져 시공간을 뛰어넘는 의궤의 형상을 구성한다.
이 작품은 150x210cm의 한지가 7장이 결합하여 만들어진 10m의 횡권산수도이다. 산수의 수려한 경관들을 수묵으로 거칠면서도 현실감 있게 표현하고, 채색을 겻들여 대형 산수도로 그린다. 그리고 행렬을 구경하는 사람들은 현대의 인물들로 구성, 과거와 현재를 잇는 시간의 고리를 만든다. 이때 산수는 작가가 주로 작품활동을 하는 제주의 실경을 재구성하여 만든 이상향의 공간이다.
Minsu Oh, Historical Mapping, 2023
In 1795(the 19th year of the reign of King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty), King Jeongjo accompanied his mother, Lady Hyegyeong, to Hwaseong(Suwon). The scenes from Uigwe "Hwaseong Royal Cemetery Procession" depict the procession on a folding screen divided into eight panels. The artist combines these scenes with landscape paintings to form sets that transcend time and space with modern-day figures. This work is a 10m horizontal landscape painting combining seven sheets of 150x210cm Korean paper. The beautiful landscapes are expressed in a rough yet realistic way using ink and color and then painted into large-scale paintings. The people watching the precession are composed of modern-day figures, creating a chain of time connecting the past and present. At this time, the landscape is a utopian space created by reconstructing the actual scenery of Jeju, where the artist mainly works.
