Yeah, normally it takes like 3 seconds if I remember correctly on PS3 to load the D-Link... not seven! Also I don't remember the game suddenly interrupting gameplay with a loading animation before activating commands like seen at 2:00. Even on PS3 I don't remember that at all. I'm 99% sure it wasn't. In all my playthroughs, all the playthroughs and speedruns I watched back then, all the reviews and discussions, I have no recollection of any performance issues outside of the long loading times. His PS3's gotta be really struggling.
I distinctly remember 2FM on this collection having issues loading drives and how it wouldn't buffer the enemies properly while loading so people would pause the game and wait for the disc to stop spinning so they wouldn't get rushed while changing
So i kind of want point out, watching the gameplay compilation in non 60fps did not visually show the cracks, which told me that square saw this in pretty crappy quality said it looked good and rushed it out the door

Yeah I've sadly only ever played the ps3 port of BBS and i've never had it need to load before i used a command, and while d links still took way longer then they should it was still a small bit faster then this. Also have had no where near that bad lag from those large group unversed.
Considering they released this version just a year after KH1.5.... its no wonder the game runs poorly. And then they took their time making the 1.5+2.5 release for PS4 :P
From what I hear, it's due to the large amount of information stored on a Blu-Ray disc, it may take some time for discs to load. While its usually alleviated by installing the data to the console itself, Square-Enix for some reason decided not to give the PS3 compilations that option. So all load times in both the KH and FFX/X-2 HD games are incredibly slow. D-Link's, drives, screen transitions, etc.
Strangely enough Kingdom Hearts already had a data install option on the Japanese version of KH1 and on BBS for PSP. Easily would have saved these games on PS3 but they decided against it.
It's funny cause if you emulate this terrible port on RPCS3 it becomes incredibly good with near instantaneous load times, resolution scaling able to surpass 4k, and 60fps with a patch. Japanese undub too if that's your thing.
I hacked my PS3 at one point just so I could dump 2.5 to the HDD so I didn't have to deal with the loading times. To be fair it did work - the Game didn't have any of the loading issues you normally get in any of the games and I remember the frame rate being much more consistent.
i have a ps3 slim and can confirm the fps issues are not your ps3's fault, i had them on all of my playthrough of bbs, it was atrociaous, in the psp it was so much better
I think there is something wrong with your PS3. Might be overheating or something because I recently played this and it wasn’t THIS bad and my PS3 has a really old Disk Drive and it ran realtively good at a consistent 30 fps with the occasional 25fps dips and d-links didn’t took this long.. Still this was my least favorite Kingdom Hearts and I played them all one after the other for the first time.

It’s definitely the age of the PS3. The only load times I experienced were on KH2FM’s Drive Forms and I played it back in 2015.
